This document provides an overview of servant leadership. It defines servant leadership as inspiring and motivating others by serving their needs in pursuit of a greater cause. The key characteristics of servant leaders are putting others' needs before their own and being devoted to or guided by something larger than themselves. Servant leaders champion resources, share the vision of the organization's mission, purpose and values, and facilitate engagement through problem solving and delegation. The servant leadership cycle involves assessing needs, developing individuals through coaching, mentoring and skills training, and guiding performance and behavior.
