This document provides a summary of lessons from the biblical story of Jesus feeding the 5,000 with five loaves of bread and two fish. It outlines three main lessons: 1) Do not measure problems based on your own abilities but God's; 2) Little becomes much in Jesus' hands; and 3) Every problem can lead to increase when Jesus is involved. The concluding lesson is that the miracles point to who Jesus is as the bread of life and resurrection. The document explores each lesson through references to the biblical story and passages.
The document provides a multi-step process for studying the Bible systematically:
1. Start with prayer and an open mindset of seeking God rather than oneself. Read whole books in one sitting without distractions to get an overview.
2. Study books and chapters in order, asking what the passage means in its context by considering who wrote it, to whom, when, where, how it applied originally, and how it applies today.
3. Reflect on how the meaning convicts, encourages, or reveals areas for growth and change; and determine what can be taught to others from what was learned.
Making disciples who make disciples is at the heart of the call to follow Christ. Here are some notes on the gap between our intentions and practice (adapted from Greg Ogden's book, Transforming Discipleship).
Our gift and talents are for the glory of Godcmfindia
God has given each person different talents and abilities. The purpose of these gifts is for us to use them to praise and glorify God. On judgment day, God will expect us to give an account of how we used the gifts he gave us. Those who worked hard with their talents will be rewarded, while those who did nothing will face God's anger. We must use the strengths and resources God has provided to accomplish great things for him.
The document discusses the importance of spiritual growth and maturity. It outlines different stages of spiritual development using the analogy of an infant, child, teenager, and mature adult. Each stage is characterized by certain behaviors and mindsets. The goal is to progress from basic understanding to discernment, submission to authority, and mentoring others through mature character and intimacy with God.
Jesus showed his disciples the importance of humility and service by washing their feet at the Last Supper. He commanded them to serve one another in the same way. To follow Jesus, one must imitate his example of humility by being willing to bow down and wash others' feet. True servants are obedient and humble, trusting fully in their master's authority.
This document discusses what it means to be an Adventist and addresses some common misconceptions. It acknowledges that while Adventists share core doctrines like the Sabbath and second coming, there is diversity in lifestyle choices. True Adventism is defined as accepting the fundamental beliefs and walking with God, not requiring specific actions like giving up jobs or friendships. It emphasizes that Adventism involves voluntarily accepting biblical teachings rather than being born into it or adopting a rigid lifestyle.
The document discusses the Lord's Prayer, which Jesus taught his disciples. It provides the key elements of each phrase in the prayer. The Lord's Prayer is considered the perfect prayer and a summary of the Gospel. It addresses God as Father and contains seven petitions that teach Christians what they need to live holy lives, like hallowing God's name, praying for God's kingdom to come, and doing God's will on earth. The document examines the meaning behind phrases in the prayer.

The document discusses the key elements that must be present in a disciple of Christ. It begins by stating that becoming a disciple starts with a decision to follow Christ and continues with ongoing decisions. It emphasizes that disciples receive instruction from Jesus' teachings and must step out in action by doing what Jesus commanded, such as healing, preaching, and making other disciples. True commitment requires taking up one's cross daily despite challenges. Disciples must also increase their faith through believing God can do anything and find strength through God during difficulties. With power from the Holy Spirit and God, and motivated by love, disciples can do greater works than Jesus and will be identified by their love for one another.
This document provides a summary of a lesson about Jesus and the Sabbath. It discusses how Jesus viewed the Sabbath as made for humanity's benefit, not the other way around. It outlines how Jesus healed people on the Sabbath to demonstrate its purpose of bringing liberation. The document also notes that early Christians continued to observe the seventh-day Sabbath based on Old Testament teachings.
This document outlines fundamentals of discipleship according to International Bible Baptist Church in Bangkok, Thailand. It defines discipleship as teaching believers to obey all of Jesus' commands, as in the Great Commission. Effective discipleship moves people from initial salvation to commitment to service, maturity and evangelism. Hindrances like pride, riches, and cares of this life can discourage discipleship. But the results of disciplining include sweeter fellowship, speeding up evangelism, and pleasing God. The goal is helping members attain spiritual maturity and fulfill the Great Commission.
There are two Messiahs running around in the churches. One claims the Ten Commandments are done away with, the other one came back to restore the people of Israel back to Yahweh's Commandments. Which one do you serve?

The Bible and Homosexuality, Part 1: Sodom and Gomorrah and the Old Testament...Elton Sherwin
This document provides an overview of a presentation on what the Bible actually says about homosexuality. It begins by discussing how religious upbringing can positively impact well-being but negatively impact LGBTQ youth. It then examines the first two Old Testament "clobber verses" used against homosexuality - the story of Sodom and Gomorrah and the story of the Levite's concubine - finding that neither are actually about homosexuality. It questions the common interpretation of verses in Leviticus in context. The presentation aims to take a fresh look at what the Bible says about homosexuality through accurate translations and scholarship.
This document discusses God's plan for the traditional Christian family and threats to the family from modern society. It outlines God's intention for marriage and family as between one man and one woman, with children being a gift from God. It notes many broken homes today and challenges to the definition of family. The document warns that societies focus on materialism has reduced the importance of family. It cites private revelations predicting the family will be under attack by evil forces promoting compromise and a "culture of death" through policies like abortion, euthanasia, and same-sex marriage. The document expresses the family is currently under threat but will ultimately be victorious through faith.
Christians "are the salt of the earth!" - What is meant by this metaphor? What influence do we have on the world as Christians if we have been polluted by the world? The need for salty saints to stay the rot of sin in the world!
The Bible and Homosexuality, Part 2: The 7 Scriptures Blessing Sexual MinoritiesElton Sherwin
This document discusses a presentation on the Bible and homosexuality. It begins by noting studies that found religious upbringings are linked to better health outcomes, but that LGBTQ children attending churches believing homosexuality is sinful have higher suicide rates. The presentation aims to reexamine what the Bible says about homosexuality. It discusses scriptures about God's universal love and three Bible verses affirming sexual minorities, including the story of the Ethiopian eunuch baptized by Philip. Commentators say this story and Jesus framing a verse about eunuchs show the Gospel's inclusiveness of people regardless of sexual orientation.
1) David served God's purpose in his generation by working humbly as a shepherd, fighting bravely against enemies of Israel like Goliath, waiting patiently for God to fulfill his promise of kingship, and leaving a godly legacy through his writings in the book of Psalms.
2) All Christians should seek to understand God's unique purpose and plan for their lives and serve Him faithfully in both their daily choices and through helping others learn about the gospel.
3) While God forgives sins, disobedience still has consequences; David's life provides an example of both God's forgiveness and the repercussions of wrongdoing.

Based upon Rick Warren's excellent book, Bible Study Methods, this presentation offers a simple way of deepening your Bible study by examining one chapter at a time.
Mt 13:15 For the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, And their eyes they have closed, Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, So that I should heal them.'
The Prophetic Books of the Bible address the classical period of biblical prophecy from the days of Elijah to Malachi. They include the major prophets of Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel, as well as the 12 minor prophets of Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi. Lamentations, though not traditionally classified as a prophetic book, is also included. Each prophet addressed the divided kingdoms of Israel and Judah and their eventual destruction or exile, with messages of warning, judgment, and hope.
1. What Does It Mean to be a Disciple of Jesus? KeynoteWilliam Anderson
The document discusses what it means to be a disciple of Jesus. It provides biblical passages where Jesus outlines what it means to be his disciple, including denying oneself, carrying one's cross, following Jesus, loving him above all else, obeying his teachings, loving other disciples, and bearing fruit. The document also discusses how disciples are to have Christ at the center and live for him rather than themselves, as exemplified by Jesus' life and ministry of doing the Father's will, depending on the Holy Spirit, studying God's word, spending time in prayer, loving and serving others through proclaiming the gospel, and making disciples.
Bible Study # 1: the importance of the biblenolds2013
The document discusses what the Bible is and where it came from. It provides an overview that the Bible contains 66 books divided between the Old Testament with 39 books and the New Testament with 27 books. It explains that the Bible was written by prophets who were moved by the Holy Spirit and covers topics from Genesis to Revelation. The importance of studying the Bible is discussed as it provides eternal life, instruction for righteousness, and hope through understanding God's promises. Adding to or subtracting from the Bible's words is warned against.
The document discusses the importance and nature of love. It defines three types of love - eros, phileo, and agape. Agape love is the highest form, exemplified by God's sacrificial love for humanity. True love is demanding and looks like Jesus, seeking to help others regardless of how they treat you. We must learn to love as God loves us through understanding his love and sharing it with others in our actions. The overarching message is that everything comes down to love - for God and for one another.
This document discusses the Christian concept of faith. It defines faith as believing in God and accepting that He made himself known through His words and actions, especially through Jesus Christ. Faith requires believing, which is the foundation on which our faith is built, and trusting that we cannot be truly happy without God. Faith also means acting on those beliefs, as without action one could not truly be said to have faith.

The document summarizes an article from the newsletter of Christ Church Deer Park in Toronto, Canada. It describes a painting commissioned for the church's 100th anniversary that depicts the church's history. It was presented to the church in 1970 in memory of Mr. and Mrs. A.F.D. Lace.
The document contains quotes from various authors on the topic of work. It discusses that quality of work is more important than quantity; being busy does not matter if the work lacks purpose. It also contains biblical quotes that discuss work as God's idea, how work allows one to support themselves and be generous, and how work can develop character and be an example to others. Work is portrayed as something one should do with passion and intensity as a calling rather than just for money.

Ecclesiastes & Song of Solomon
Based on material from:
Capitol Hill Baptist Church
525 A Street, NE
Washington, DC 20002
This document provides information about the Deerfoot Church of Christ congregation in Pinson, Alabama. It includes the church address and service times. It lists the shepherds, ministers, and topics from recent sermons. It also provides details about the order of services and announcements about upcoming online classes and events.
1. The document discusses pursuing a godly legacy and passing on one's faith to future generations through daily choices and decisions.
2. It highlights the contrasting legacies of Jonathan Edwards and Max Jukes, showing how Edwards' descendants included many influential figures while Jukes' descendants struggled with crime and poverty.
3. The document encourages pursuing truth, life, and building a team in order to leave behind a faithful legacy that impacts generations to come through convictions, values, life, and faith.
The document discusses the principle of Christ's birth from the Gospel of Luke, noting how seemingly insignificant the circumstances were. It points out that Bethlehem was a small, insignificant town; Mary and Joseph were ordinary people of low social status; the stable was a humble place to give birth; and the shepherds who received the angel's announcement were among the lowest social class. However, the document argues that despite these small beginnings, great things can come from faithfulness in the small, everyday details of life. It encourages focusing on consecrating one's life to God and pursuing discipline through faithfulness in small actions and responsibilities each day.
The article discusses the importance of telling the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. It notes that while humans are created in God's image, they are still susceptible to temptation to lie. The author argues that the truth is whole, constant, and applicable to every aspect of our lives according to God's eternal word.
The document is a sermon about discovering and fulfilling one's ministry. It makes three key points:
1) God has uniquely shaped and gifted each believer for specific ministry work. No role is insignificant.
2) Each ministry is interdependent - no one can accomplish God's purposes alone, and all ministries benefit each other.
3) An online assessment will help church members better understand their gifts and calling to specific ministry areas. Taking the assessment is presented as important for finding one's role in God's plan.
This document contains a summary of a sermon promoting preaching about the one true church that belongs to Christ. It discusses how Luke's book of Acts and other biblical passages teach that there is one undenominational church established by Christ that was preached about by early gospel preachers. While not popular today, the author argues that preachers should faithfully preach about Christ's one true church, as it is God's kingdom over which Christ reigns and died for.
This document provides information about the Deerfoot Church of Christ congregation in Pinson, Alabama. It includes the names and contact information for church elders and ministers. It lists the weekly service times and songs to be sung. It provides the order of service and names of those participating. It includes announcements about upcoming events, prayer requests, and average weekly contributions. Jesus was stressing the importance of little thingsGLENN PEASE
Jesus stressed the importance of being faithful in small things. He who can be trusted with little things can be trusted with much. Those who are dishonest with little will also be dishonest with much. God sees even small acts and judges based on our character shown in both small and large acts. Being faithful in the little duties of life and handling trifles well is as important as great acts.

-God’s general providence is toward all creation
- All things were made through Him
God’s special providence is toward His children.

It seems that current missionary work requires spending a lot of money, preparing a lot of materials, and traveling to far away places, so that it feels like missionary work. But what was the result they brought back? It's just a lot of photos of activities, fun eating, drinking and some playing games. And then we have to do the same thing next year, never ending. The church once mentioned that a certain missionary would go to the field where she used to work before the end of his life. It seemed that if she had not gone, no one would be willing to go. The reason why these missionary work is so difficult is that no one obeys God’s words, and the Bible is not the main content during missionary work, because in the eyes of those who do not obey God’s words, the Bible is just words and cannot be connected with life, so Reading out God's words is boring because it doesn't have any life experience, so it cannot be connected with human life. I will give a few examples in the hope that this situation can be changed. A375

6. Our Crazy Busy Lives
& The One Thing That’s Necessary
~ Luke 10:38-42 ~
7. Now as they went on their way, Jesus
Luke 10:38-39
entered a village. And a woman
named Martha welcomed him into
her house. And she had a sister
called Mary…
8. And [Martha] had a sister called Mary
Luke 10:39-40
who sat at the Lord’s feet and listen-
ed to his teaching. But Martha was
distracted with much serving.
9. And she went up to him and said,
Luke 10:40
“Lord, do you not care that my
sister has left me to serve alone?
Tell her to help me.”
10. But the Lord answered her, “Martha,
Luke 10:41-42
Martha, you are anxious and troubled
about many things, but one thing
is necessary.
11. But the Lord said, “______, ______,
you are anxious and troubled
about many things, but one thing
is necessary.”
Fill In Your Name
12. “Mary has chosen the good portion,
Luke 10:42
which will not be taken from her.”
13. “If you don’t feel strong desires for the
manifestation of the glory of God, it is not
because you have drunk deeply
and are satisfied. It is because
you have nibbled so long at
the table of the world.
Your soul is stuffed with
small things, and
there is no room
for the great.”
~ John Piper
A Hunger for God
14. Why does Luke record this
account in his historical
biography of Jesus?
Important Question
15. The one thing that’s necessary
is to centre your crazy busy
life upon Jesus.
Main Idea
17. “Busyness serves as a kind of existential
reassurance, a hedge against emptiness;
obviously your life cannot possibly be silly or trivial
or meaningless if you are so busy, completely
booked, in demand every hour of the day.”
~ Tim Kreider, “The ‘Busy’ Trap”
19. “And others [ie., seeds] are sown among thorns.
They are those who hear the word, but the cares
of the world and the deceitfulness of riches, and
the desires for other things [“the pleasure of life”
- Luke 8:14] enter in and CHOKE the word, and it
proves unfruitful.”
~ Jesus of Nazareth, The Gospel of Mark, 4:18-19
20. “‘The pleasures of this life…’—these are not evil in
themselves. These are not vices. These are gifts of
God. They are your basic meat and potatoes and
coffee and gardening and reading and decorating !
and traveling and investing and TV-watching and
Internet-surfing and shopping and !
exercising and collecting and !
talking. And all of them !
can become deadly !
substitutes !
for God.”
~ John Piper, A Hunger for God
22. It comes the very moment you wake up
each morning. All your wishes and hopes
for the day rush at you like wild animals.
And the first job each morning consists
simply in shoving them all back; in
listening to that other voice, taking that
other point of view, letting that other larger,
stronger, quieter life come flowing in.
“
~ CS Lewis, Mere Christianity
23. Remember what is
necessary: not something
we do for Jesus, but
something he wants to do
for us as we listen to Jesus.
Do you see the
difference…?
24. Jesus is not asking
something more from
us; he is asking for
less, so that he can
give us more of himself.
25. What do I
need less of
in my life so
that I can have
more of Jesus
?
