Serialization Outlook
Forecasts and predictions up to 2021
Business models will be challenged by new
and upcoming technologies that will emerge,
especially Internet of Things, Big data,
Cognitive devices and products.
Technology is becoming smaller, more
affordable, more compact and integrated.
New standards are being created and
developed, especially on data exchange. New
technologies for information analysis and
pattern recognition are being developed.
Audit requirements will create additional
requirements for data gathering and integrity
that does not exists now. This will generate
additional data volumes.
On opposite side, consumers will generate
demands for extended information using
mobile technology.

Evolution of Serialization
& Traceability system
Definition: Integrated Enterprise level system satisfying all
serialization and traceability requirements (drugs, labs,
research) for multiple purposes, which can be easily
integrated with internal and external system and configured
according to standards and conformity requirements.
Prescription: seek for solutions and vendors with long-term
vision and clear Roadmap.
Competitive value: beside optimization and savings, following
values should be expected to be absorbed from solution in
mid term:
Supply chain optimization
Customer engagement and verification
Analytical information gathering and pattern analysis
Item specific data collection and exchange
Exit strategy: you will not need serialization and Traceability
forever. Consider options with clear exit strategy (buzzwords:
pay per use, cloud, appliance, etc)

How values will shift (and what the hell does it mean?)
Delivery channels
Effect: Drug features will become available to patients via
over-the-air technologies. Updates and recommendations
will become interactive and connected to overall health
behaviour of the patient.
Technology: smartphone aware patient will track its habits,
including exercises, eating and alike using applications (e.g. S-
Health) and will share such information with health
practitioners and pharma companies voluntarily.
Implications: pharma companies should partner heavily to
modernize regulation regarding sharing of patient
information, development of technology complement to
health collecting applications and embedding new sensors to
mobile devices
Strategic direction : should shift from selling the cure, to
taking long term health suggestions based on gathered and
analysed health information – in a predictive and cognitive
way.
Business models re/invented
Fraud (and counterfeiting) in Serialized Environment
WHO IS CONCERNED BY COUNTERFEIT ANYMORE? IT IS REGULATION

What is your path?
Vision: In the future we will be surrounded
by connected cognitive objects that will
create knowledge wise will harvest to
create value.
Recommendation: rethink your
serialization strategy and avoid the lessons
from history to become leader.
Serialization solution may become game
changer on mid run, while on long run
seek opportunity to have single, ecosystem
based solution for all IT challenges.

Editor's Notes

  • #2 You can not say you didn’t know Give a prediction where Serialization and traceability are going to develop on mid and long term. - Business Technology Quality aspects 0 We might not see how this will be solved, but we can understand the problem and create outline for the means and approaches that will be used to solve the problem. I was moderating a Panel on IDC conference on Internet of Things last week, and one of the thesis was that we didn’t know 10 years ago how IoT will happened, and how that any device will become connected, but we ware aware that this will happened in the future. Now we know how. But back then we didn’t know. Some 6 years ago, I was speaking on general meeting of insurance companies, and forecasts was then by 2025 cars will become autonomous. Everybody laught at me, but today, not only we know how this will happened, we have it, and even have a first person that died while being driven with autonomous car.
  • #3 What we have learned from the history? What will change by introducing serialization and traceability throughout supply chain? What mistakes we can avoid? What else is emerging and can influence serialization and shift our future? How good we can respond to challenges that now does not exists: changes in Business model and needs, technology and regulatory/Quality or better to say standards of conformity
  • #4 Emerging technologies will shape the society as we know it. Every device is becoming connected, and this will lead to change of business models. In history, we know that emerging technologies reshaped the marketspace, and lead to establishment of new mega corporations. Technology will become disruptive, and it will shift the jobs and industries. Each industry and its ecosystem has its specific technology platforms, protocols, operating systems and conformity standards. That new technologies will become essential for new researches. From audit perspective we will be dealing in the future with sensitive information. Nobody is talking about counterfeiting any more, but about satisfying regulation. Thus, drug will become original if it pass verification. Even if it is evidential that drug does not look like original, if safety feature is valid, it will be sold as valid. Credit cards example. This is going to increase security demands over solutions, but also new fraud practices will arise. Audit requirements and requirements from consumer will shape how we use technology.
  • #5 Some time ago, each company has separate IT system for payroll, warehousing, finance, accounting…I tried to google for those companies that were leading in accounting software 20 years ago. Have you ever heard of those names?
  • #11 Primjer o anticounterfeit tehnologije
