Hazel and Gus are two teenagers who
share an acerbic wit, a disdain for the conventional, and a love that
sweeps them on a journey. Their relationship is all the more miraculous
given that Hazel’s other constant companion is an oxygen tank, Gus
jokes about his prosthetic leg, and they met and fell in love at a cancer
support group. Rated PG.
Tissues will be provided. Bring on the feels!
For ages 12-19.

Invisibility
by Andrea Cremer & David Levithan
Stephen is just like every
other teenage boy. He has
his favourite bands, likes to
read up on the world around
him and enjoys discovering
his hometown of New
York City. The one unique
difference? He’s invisible.
Written in alternating
chapters by Andrea Cremer (the Nightshade
series) and David Levithan (author of Every
Day), Invisibility tells the story of two people
trying to find a way to be together against all
odds in a cruel, unforgiving world.
Though Stephen is invisible to everyone
around him, he is still able to lead a
relatively good life. Then, when his mother
dies abruptly, he is thrust into a world of
loneliness − until he meets her. The one girl
who can see him.
Elizabeth came with her family to New York
City to escape her past. All she wants to do
is slip by and get lost in the crowd. However,
when she meets Stephen, she changes. All
of a sudden, she wants Stephen to see her
and to notice the world they live in with
each other. But the closer they get, the
harder it is to ignore Stephen’s curse. The
two must make the decision to either leave
what they have behind or face the music
together, before the world chooses for them.
I absolutely loved this novel. Personally,
I like the fact that this story is a fresh
new take on the supernatural love story
genre and is so much more complex and
enthralling. It truly shows that you are
greater than the sum of your parts and is
much more than just a love story. It is a
story about love.
For fans of all literary genres, Invisibility is
a fantastic read and brings out the unseen
wishes that we all have within ourselves for
life, love and the future that awaits us.
