2. Taboos in China
– Jun Liu is from China and told us many Interesting facts
– Number 4
– 666
– Dogs
4. Continued
– Sharing a pear
– No green hat
– Business context
– Bowing Korea and Japan
– Politics
– Two hands business card
5. Reflection
Mr Liu is an amazing teacher who has the ability to educate and entertain at the
same time. He gave the seminar in a very interesting and funny manner. It did not
mean that he did not take it seriously but he gave us examples that showed us why
the topics were taboo and how we should not believe stereotypes. Everyone was
attentive and interested and quite frankly surprised as the fact that we had very
opposite meanings towards certain figures and colours and how there were lots of
superstitions in China. All in all I enjoyed this lecture the most out of the five.
6. Master Class on AI
– Computer based
– Task take-over
– Robotics
– Daily lives
– Deep learning
– 1956 supervised learning
– Connection of words
7. Reflection
Being able to attend a master class with a lecturer from my dream school was an
interesting experience. I was able to learn about AI and was able to get rid of the
fear that it might cause damage to us in the future. He had tried to make it as
interactive as possible but the classroom was mostly shy but he still pushed
through and got us to loosen up a little. The information about the one year
masters program was also very informing as I had already wanted to do this
program after finishing IBM.
8. Communication in a Professional
environment
– Tips
– Formal countries
– Informal countries
9. Reflection
As we have received many ways of communication it was still interesting to receive
more information from another source. With that being said most of the tips were
quite common as we have even seen them in Business Communication but it
proved that what we learned was authentic and still holds till today and that not
many things have changed. It would have been more interesting if there were
other facts that we didn’t already know.
10. Global Racist Contagion following
Donald Trump's Election
– Identifying racial bias
– By asking questions
– “How many people of the same race or ethnic group would you allow to live in your
country”
– Formula to calculate
– Treatable or not?
– Contagious or not?
11. Reflection
The reason why I chose this was simply because the title was alluring and it did
have an effect on trade and the living conditions in the US which is where I would
have wanted to do an internship or maybe look for work there as well. However it
was quite difficult for me to follow the seminar as it was performed by a highly
educated researcher. Mr Giani gave us so much information but it was all in a
theoretical point of view and I had not thought about it being that way.
I did however look at the situation differently and it has affected my decision in a
positive manner. I did further research and even read his research paper on this
topic but it seemed a little hard for me to really understand the contents such as
the formulas and variables.
