The document discusses the victimization of women through a system of "sexual terrorism" perpetuated by a male-dominated power structure. It describes the ideology, propaganda, amorality, and voluntary compliance that comprise this system and encourage violence against women. The pathology of the perpetrator includes adherence to masculine ideologies and a need for power, as well as often having a history of witnessing or experiencing abuse. Forms of sexual terrorism mentioned include wife battering, child sexual abuse, rape, and using pornography to further propagate the ideology.
The document discusses the status of women in Islam based on teachings from the Quran. It states that men and women were both created from a single soul and as pairs. The Quran teaches that women are individuals responsible for their own deeds and that both men and women will be judged equally based on their actions. It emphasizes the importance of kind treatment between husbands and wives and promoting understanding in family decisions. Mothers hold a position of high respect according to the Quran.
This document summarizes information about victimization from a criminology course. It discusses the social ecology and characteristics of victimizations, as well as theories of victimization. The key points are:
1) Victimization risk varies based on location (e.g. public vs. private), gender, age, social status, and other demographic factors.
2) Theories of victimization like lifestyle theory and routine activities theory suggest victimization risk increases through behaviors like frequenting risky locations, having valuable possessions, and lacking capable guardians.
3) Victimization can cause economic losses, suffering, stress, PTSD and increased risk of anti-social behavior in victims.
16 Days 2013: Presentation by Dr. Debarati Halder, Remedies for Cyber-Crimes ...The Prajnya Trust
This presentation by Dr. Debarati Halder outlines cyber-crimes against women and available legal and other remedies against them. This was presented at a Colloquium on Digital Media and Gender Violence on December 9, 2013, in Chennai, as part of the 2013 Prajnya 16 Days Campaign against Gender Violence.
Just World Theory proposes that people believe the world is fundamentally just and people get what they deserve. This theory is used to rationalize victim blaming attitudes towards sexual assault. Studies show those with high levels of rape myth acceptance, like the beliefs that a victim was responsible due to their behavior, also have strong just world beliefs. These beliefs and subtle sexism interact in ways that perpetuate rape culture and victim blaming. Deconstructing the theory of a just world may help improve sexual violence prevention programs by reducing tendencies to blame victims.
Young single males are most likely to be victims of assault and robbery. Surveys show that crime victims can experience lasting emotional impacts, with many victims of child abuse experiencing low self-esteem into adulthood. The Islington Crime Survey found that crimes against women often occur in the home, though women disproportionately fear crime outside the home, altering their behavior as a result. Approximately one-third of survey respondents had been victims, but half of these were victims of repeat crimes, indicating that a small number of people experience multiple victimizations.

1. The panel discussed online learning at the graduate level from an Eastern Canadian perspective.
2. Each presenter discussed where their institution currently stands with online graduate studies, where the institution is headed, and their personal views on synchronous and asynchronous technologies.
3. Key points included increasing demand for online graduate programs, a focus on quality and student experience, and balancing synchronous and asynchronous methods depending on student and program needs.
This document discusses victimology and survivor studies in higher education. It provides background on victimology as the study of victimization, victims, and societal responses. It notes barriers to developing empathy for victims, such as desensitization from constant media exposure or viewing victims as responsible. The status of adult education and victim advocacy as social movements is examined. Current victim services in Canada are outlined. The document argues for increased academic study of victimology and notes challenges, such as considering diverse perspectives and ensuring accessibility. It proposes critical action research to identify stakeholder priorities to inform the development of victimology education in Canada.
