“A Self-organizing teams empowered to make
their own decisions with their ability to achieve
the goal within boundaries”
– An Agile Principle.
A Self - Organizing team empowered to make their own decisions with their ability to
achieve the goal within boundaries.
1. Tell > I will tell them
2. Sell > I will try and sell it to them
3. Consult > I will consult and then decide
4. Agree > We will agree together
5. Advise > I will advice but they decide
6. Inquire > I will inquire after they decide
7. Delegate > I will fully delegate
● The first three levels > the decision is taken by the manager
● The last three levels > the decision is taken by the team
● Level 4 is about consensus > the decision is taken by all of them.
Consult is the opposite of Advise.
Sell is the mirror of Inquire.

1. Identify a Manager within your team
2. Choose one scenario:
a. Develop an IT product
b. Organize a party
c. Organize an off-site event
d. Move out from your current workplace
e. Create your own scenario.
3. List out 7 Key Decision Areas – KDAs (e.g. Budget, Date, Location etc.)
1. One player picks out a key decision area and read it loud to the team
2. Each player chooses one of the 7 Delegation Cards privately, reflecting on how he would
delegate the decision in that particular situation
3. When all players have decided, they show their selected cards to the team
4. People with highest and lowest cards explain their choice
5. The team discusses and agrees on delegation level of the key decision area.
Complete the remaining key areas | 30 minutes

It’s doing the right thing in the wrong way,
with good intentions but old-fashioned top-down
hierarchical initiatives.
It’s simply doing the wrong thing,
by treating people like cogs in a system.
Management 1.0 Management 2.0
It is the future of management, which is all about
doing the right thing for your team,
involving everyone in improving the system
and fostering employee engagement.
