This review article discusses self-emulsifying drug delivery systems (SEDDS) as a promising technology to enhance the solubility and bioavailability of lipophilic drugs. It highlights the transition of drug development towards rational design and the various challenges faced, including poor physicochemical properties of many new chemical entities. The document underscores the advantages of lipid-based formulations, particularly SEDDS, in improving drug absorption and stability in gastrointestinal conditions.
