What is CCTV

What is HDTVI
• HDTVI (High Definition Transport Video Interface) is the HD Video
transmission Interface. HDTVI technology can be implemented in
existing simulation on a transmission line reliable kop HD video signal
transmission.

Resolution
• Resolution is the size of the Image,
the bigger the size more detail is
captured.
• We can zoom in digitally to see more
details without much pixilation.
• In Network video surveillance we get
videos in higher resolutions like HD
Ready (720p) , Full HD (1080p) , etc.

Facts to know about Surveillance Camera
• BOARD LENS
• This is a fixed lens mounted on a circuit board of camera.
These lenses are often used in mini cameras, dome
cameras and hidden cameras.
• C-Mount
• This type lens is the original standard one. Its back
interface diameter is 25mm, sensor format includes 2/3
inch,1/2 inch. Especially, the lens and camera contact
surface to the surface of sensor is the standard value
17.5mm.
• CS-Mount
• This type lens is the upgraded one from C-Mount lens.
Except the distance from contact surface to sensor
surface, it has the same feature as the C-Mount. The
distance is 12.5mm.

transmitted light and to form images.
 Image Sensor
o An image sensor is a device that converts an optical image to an electric
signal. An image sensor is typically a charge-coupled device (CCD) or a
complementary metal–oxide–semiconductor (CMOS) active-pixel sensor
 A basic electronic circuitry or an advanced DSP

Lens Type
Fixed
A fixed focus lens has one set focal length with a specific field of view which
cannot be changed.
Vari -focal
A lens that can be manually adjusted for the desired magnification and field of
view
ZOOM LENS
A lens with the ability to change the focal length manually or with a controller, to
cover a variety of needs.
ZOOM RATIO
The ratio between a lens maximum and minimum focal length, e.g. a 12 to 240mm
lens has a zoom ratio of 20 times (240/12 = 20).

Image sensor
IRIS :-Camera iris is the part of the camera that controls how much light comes through the
lens. If the iris creates a larger opening, more light can get through; a smaller opening allows
less light through
FIXED IRIS LENS:-
• On a fixed iris, the opening that allows light into the camera cannot be adjusted
• This type of iris is ideal for indoor recording where the light levels stay consistent when the
camera is recording, such as an office or school with many large overhead lights
AUTO-IRIS LENS
• A lens with an electronically controlled iris allowing the lens to maintain one light level
throughout varying light conditions.
CCD FORMAT
• The approximate size of image sensor. 2/3", 1/2", 1/3", 1/4" are few available sizes. A
smaller format lens will not work well on a larger format camera. Using a smaller format
lens on a larger camera causes distortions ranging from tunnel vision to poor back focus.

 CMOS Image Sensor
A CMOS chip is a type of active pixel sensor made
using the CMOS semiconductor process.

Camera-DSP
• DSP (Digital Signal Processor)
Similar to computer microchip or chip sets which have replaced the conventional
integrated circuits in the camera. This enables feature-rich products, more
consistent picture quality, AES, BLC, motion detection, OSD menu etc.

• AUTO-IRIS LENS
A lens with an electronically controlled iris allowing the lens to maintain one light level throughout
varying light conditions.
• LUX
The international unit of illumination in which the meter is the unit of length. It is equal to the
illumination of a surface one meter away from a single candle. One lux equals one lumen per square
meter. 10 lux equals 1 foot-candle.
• Auto electronic shutter (AES)
Used in cameras where the iris remains fixed allowing the shutter speed to change in response to the
amount of perceived light to keep the signal output at the best possible level.

Exposure
exposure is the quantity of light reaching a photographic film, as determined by shutter speed and lens
aperture.

SNR
Signal to noise ratio is an electrical engineering measurement, a measurement of the noise level in a signal
expressed in dB (decibels). In a video signal values from 45 dB to 60 dB produce an acceptable picture. Less
than 40 dB is likely to produce a 'noisy' picture
Automatic White Balance (AWB)
This features lets the camera to automatically adjust the color settings to achieve the most correct and
accurate colors

BLC- Back Light Compensation
• BLC (Backlight Compensation)
The adjustment of exposure to prevent the backlit subject from turning
out too dark

WDR- Wide Dynamic Range
• WDR (Wide Dynamic Range)
• The Wide Dynamic Range (WDR) function of a camera is intended to provide clear images
even under back light circumstances where intensity of illumination can vary excessively
• WDR enables the capture and display of both bright areas and dark areas in the same frame,
in a way that there are details in both areas, i.e. bright areas are not saturated, and dark
areas are not too dark

High Light Compensation
• It detects bright highlights and masks them out in order to reveal detail which would
otherwise be obscured by the flare effect from a strong light source, such as torch light or
car headlights.

DOME Camera
 DOME Camera
Dome camera typically /are best choices whenever possible
 When the camera is within someone’s reach can not be easily manipulated
or vandalized.
 Domes installs easy in drop ceilings- usually 2 screws.
 Dome are not always weather proof camera so these are not suited for outside
peripherals.
 As the dome camera themselves are typically small the lens size are limited.
although some dome cameras with vari-focal lens but the size are limited.

• What is IP camera
• IP camera digitizes and processes Analogue signal, Encodes it internally, and then transmits the
information digitally over the Ethernet to a computer, NVR or a similar device

Networking Fundamentals
Important points/facts to know about networking of CCTV Network devices:
 IP ADDRESS: It’s a unique identity of any network devices over the network. An Internet Protocol (IP) address is
a numerical label that is assigned to devices participating in a network. IP Address is of two types:
 Public IP: A public IP address is any valid address, or number, that can be accessed over the Internet.
 Private IP: A private IP address is any number or address assigned to a device on a private TCP/IP Local Area
Network that is accessible only within the Local Area Network.

 IP Address Assignment: IP address assignment can occur in one of the following ways:
• Static : Static is a manual assigned IP address where you assign the IP for the TCP.
• Dynamic : Dynamic IP address is an addressed that is leased by a DHCP server
 Subnet Mask: An IP address has two components, the network address and the host address. A subnet mask
separates the IP address into the network and host addresses
 Gateway: A gateway is a network point that acts as an entrance to another network
 DHCP: Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is a network protocol that enables a server to
automatically assign an IP address to a network device from a defined range of numbers (i.e., a scope)
configured for a given network

 DNS: Short for Domain Name System (or Service or Server), an Internet service that translates domain names
into IP addresses.
 DDNS : Dynamic DNS allows a fully qualified domain name (FQDN) that never changes to be associated with a
dynamically assigned IP address that can change quite often without the need for human intervention.
 Protocol : protocol is a standard used to define a method of exchanging data over a network.
 Port Number: A port is associated with an IP address of the host, as well as the type of protocol used for
communication

• To access DVR on network connect it with existing LAN, example as given
below:

 TCP : is responsible for verifying the correct delivery of data from client to server. Data can be lost in the
intermediate network. TCP adds support to detect errors or lost data and to trigger retransmission until the
data is correctly and completely received.
 UDP: it’s connectionless & doesn't acknowledge that the packets being sent have been received. For this
reason, the UDP protocol is typically used for streaming media.
 HTTP: Communications protocol used to connect to Web servers on the Internet or on a local network
(intranet).
 UPnP: It is to establish the mapping relationship between the LAN and the WAN via the UPnP protocol hence
no need to do manual port forwarding on router. To work with this just enable UPnP on DVR/NVR and enable
it on router also. .
 IP Filter: It Filter the traffic to access or deny for a network range or host.
