                      JOB DESCRIPTION: MAJOR GIFTS OFFICER

Overview:
Saint Elizabeth Community (SEC) is a private not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing
elders and rehabilitation patients with quality, compassionate care that will enhance their daily
living. Saint Elizabeth Community offers a range of services from post-surgery rehab,
transitional care rehab, independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing care, and adult day
services through six operating units with 10 locations in Rhode Island.

SEC recently completely a three-prong strategic plan. One strategic priority, enhancement and
expansion of the philanthropy program, is intended to provide vital funding to support the
advancement of the SEC mission. During 2011, SEC partnered with an outside consultant to
conduct a fund development assessment and create an integrated philanthropy plan. The plan
includes strategies and tactics to motivate volunteers and staff, develop a culture of philanthropy,
and to recruit resources that will ultimately fund the organization’s programs and services,
capital projects, and add to the organization’s endowment. A formal major and planned giving
program is a major strategy identified in that integrated philanthropy plan.

The Major Gifts Officer (MGO) is a newly created position for the SEC Philanthropy Program.
The MGO will be responsible for planning, implementing and leading SEC’s major and planned
giving program. He/she will work collaboratively with volunteers, other development staff, and
other staff members of Saint Elizabeth Community in order to contribute to the success of an
integrated fund development program. The MGO reports to the Director of Development for
Saint Elizabeth Community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

           Manage relationships with approximately 150 prospective donors and will be
           expected to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward these very important
           friends of SEC.

           Works collaboratively with and in support of volunteers, other development and
           advancement staff, and other representatives to cultivate and solicit donors for
           system-wide priorities.

           Maintains a donor-prospect moves management system which monitors all prospect
           contacts to ensure positive and purposeful prospect and donor relations.

           Recommends and assists with programming involving the CEO, Director of
           Development, other executive staff members, and volunteer leaders.

           Must be a highly energetic professional with a track record of building donor
           relationships and closing gifts in the five and six-figure range.
Conducts efficient and accurate prospect and donor research to provide insight about
           donor intentions

           Comfort and experience in developing individual major gift proposals


Qualifications:

                  A minimum of seven years professional fundraising experience; three to five
                  years of successful experience in major or planned gift fundraising
                  Proven experience in recruiting individual major gifts and managing a multi-
                  prospect portfolio
                  Ability to flex from an autonomous situation to a team based environment when
                  needed
                  Comfort with leading up
                  Ability to understand the needs and interests of leadership and major gift donors
                  in order to develop relationships between them and SEC
                  Interest in all aspects of elder-care, dedication to promoting SEC’s fundraising
                  priorities through developing excellent relationships with staff, trustees,
                  volunteers, and the philanthropy office
                  Demonstrated leadership and the ability to successfully manage multi-functional
                  or diverse areas.
                  Successful experience in making cold calls as well as developing cultivation and
                  solicitation strategies.
                  Must have excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated record of completing
                  assignments.
                  Excellent verbal and written communication skills
                  Must have reliable transportation
                  Bachelor’s Degree; Masters preferred
                  CFRE preferred
