The father sent his four sons to look at a pear tree in different seasons. The first son saw it in winter and said it was ugly, while the second saw it in spring and said it was full of promise. The third saw it in summer and said it was beautiful. The fourth saw it in fall and said it was ripe and full. The father explained that they were all right because each only saw one season, and a tree's essence can only be known after all seasons.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

The Art Pastor's Guide to Sabbath | Steve ThomasonSteve Thomason
What is the purpose of the Sabbath Law in the Torah. It is interesting to compare how the context of the law shifts from Exodus to Deuteronomy. Who gets to rest, and why?
The Art Pastor's Guide to Sabbath | Steve Thomason
Seasons Of Life
1. There was a man who had four sons. He wanted his sons to learn not to Judge things too quickly. So he sent them each on a quest, in turn,to go and look at a pear tree that was a great distance away
2. The first son went in the winter, the second in the spring, the third in summer, and the youngest son in the fall.
3. When they had all gone and returned, he called them together to describe what they had seen
4. The first son said that the tree was ugly, bent, and twisted. The second son said it was covered with green buds and full of promise .
5. The third son disagreed; he said it was laden with blossoms that smelled so sweet and looked so beautiful, it was the most graceful thing he had ever seen. The last son disagreed with all of them; he said it was ripe and drooping with fruit, full of life and fulfillment.
6. The man then explained to his sons that they were all right, because they had each seen only one season in the tree's life.
7. He told them that you cannot judge a tree, or a person, by only one season. That the essence of who they are, and the pleasure, joy, and love that come from that life, can only be measured at the end, when all the seasons are up.
8. If you give up when it's winter, you will miss the promise of your spring, the beauty of your summer, And the fulfillment of your fall.
9. Don't let the pain of one season destroy the joy of all the rest. Don't judge life by one difficult season.
