About the San Diego Microfinance Alliance
The San Diego Microfinance Alliance (SDMFA) is a consortium of local microfinance practitioners, donors,
educators, students, and professionals. We are committed to raising the profile of microfinance in the San
Diego region through a central organization that facilitates learning opportunities for the public,
microfinance practitioners, and their clients. The Alliance brings one online location that offers information
about the Alliances partner organizations, a central calendar of microfinance-related activities in San
Diego, and collaborative tools designed for networking and practical use for those involved in local
microfinance.
About Micromentor
MicroMentor is a free online service that connects small business owners with business mentors.
MicroMentor puts experience to work by offering business professionals meaningful volunteer
opportunities and by offering entrepreneurs one-on-one advice to help build successful businesses. Our
mission is to help small businesses grow faster, generate more revenue, and employ more people. We
make it easy to be a mentor, find a mentor, and build a business.
Micromentor Project Coordinator – Internship – This position will be in charge of establishing a
micromentor network of both business owners and professionals or MBA students that can offer business
counseling to start-up business owners. Utilizing micromentor as a platform, the end result will be to
provide quality mentoring opportunities to small business in the SDMFA Network.
Responsibilities:
• Establishing and maintaining relationship with www.micromentor.org as you build a San Diego
chapter of micromentor
• Outreach to recruit MBA students at local universities and other professionals to be mentors for
start-up business owners. This involves some public speaking!
• Outreach to microfinance clients that are a part of the SDMFA Network to bring awareness about
mentoring opportunities for them
• Helping clients upload their profile on micromentor if they lack computer skills or literacy.
• Follow-up on mentoring relationships established to ensure success of business
• Time commitment: 10-15 hours/week
• Tentative Start-date: ASAP
• Duration: 6 months
• Location: Office of SDMFA partner organization
• Compensation: This is an unpaid internship.
Desired Qualifications:
• Undergraduate student in Senior year, recent graduate, or current graduate student
• Availability for ~ 6-month internship
• Understanding of business and microfinance and demonstrated interest in the field
• Excellent verbal & communication skills
• Detail oriented, ability to follow through on established objectives
• Ability to take on projects independently, self -starter
• Bilingual in English and Spanish a PLUS!!
