Recap of the First Three Days

• We looked at our own and each others’ thoughts,
input from our community, and what research says
about what students need for the future
• We reviewed our ideas shown through the Medicine
Wheel and Howard Gardner’s Five Minds
• We examined some ways to assess our students’
  learning
The Purpose of Our Time Together

To set direction for education in our district.
We are going to collaborate to co-create answers
to three questions:
1.What do we feel students need to know and be
able to do for success in the future?
2.How will we know? What evidence will convince
us that our plan is working?
3.What actions will we take to help students get
there? How will we respond when students are not
learning?
Our Objective of the Day:

• What actions will we take to help students get there?

• Today is about designing some of the pedagogical
Pathways to support our district direction
Student Video

“This is what we want to make our learning better.”
Sorting and Categorizing Input

• Introduction to the Pathways topics around the
  room and at the tables
• Sort, categorize, prioritize
• Create a gallery
Gallery Walk

• Walk, observe, and take notes
• Use your placemat to take notes
• Move any strips in the leftovers section
underneath a Pathways topic, if there is a
  place for them to go
• Add a new Pathway topic if necessary
Tony Wagner on System Reform
Engergizer Activity

• SU HU PU to discuss the video

• Did you hear our competencies?
• Did you hear our Pathways?
• Anything to add?
• Pair up again and share with another pair
Table Talk

• Each group works on one Pathway statement
• Use Pathways worksheet to create a “good
  copy” of your statement
• Synthesize information, and remove anything
  that does not fit
• Add new information that needs to be there
• You may choose to have examples below your
  Pathway statement
Time for Lunch
Pathways to Learning…

We will create personal ‘pathways’ to powerful
and purposeful learning …

_____ is a pathway for students to …
Pathways to Learning…

We will …

… in order that students can CONTRIBUTE,
COLLABORATE, THINK CRITICALLY,
LEARN, and CREATE.
Pathways Carousel

• Move from table to table to edit and give
  feedback
• Provide suggestions to each table group
using the columns to the right
• Back to original to review comments
Carousel Completion

• Time with your original group to consider
  feedback and edit Pathway statements
Putting a Bow on it!

• Take Away Work …
     – Completion of an Intervention Plan (RTI)
     – Completions of Core Skills Assessment Plan
     – Completion of Pathways Assessment Plan

• On Day 5 we need to …
     – Continue the ‘core skills’ conversations
     – Consider the Parking Lot items
     – Discuss a Professional Learning Plan
     – Review the whole plan
     – Create a draft Communication Plan

• What do you think we need to do next time we’re together in order to
‘Put a Bow’ on our work?
Homework

• We are going to send you an email with our
  two draft documents:
  -One: The Competencies
  -Two: The Pathways
• Your homework is to share both of them,
with some context, with three people (from
your stakeholder group) and get some
  feedback
In Closing:
Thank you for a great FOUR days.
         Safe travels.
Fish Bowl

• We’ve spent the day discussing what the
  students need “to get there”.
• Now its time to discuss what the teachers
will need to create these new learning
  environments
• PLP Fishbowl led by teachers “What do
  teachers need?”
