What is streaming in Scylla

What is repair in Scylla

to be synced
• Even a single partition can be large

  • 2. Presenter bio Asias He is a software developer with over 10 years of experience in programming. In the past, he worked on Debian Project, Solaris Kernel, KVM Virtualization for Linux, OSv unikernel. He now works on Seastar and ScyllaDB.

  • 5. Problems in current streaming ▪ Uses RPC Calls to stream data one by one ▪ Write to memtable on the receiver
  • 6. Improving streaming ▪ Skip memtable and write to sstables directly • Less memory consumption • Less CPU consumption • Bigger and fewer SSTables • Less compactions ▪ Use RPC Stream to send streaming data • Less RPC calls

Streaming test results ▪ Time to rebuild: • 170 mins to 50 mins, 70% ▪ Streaming bandwidth: • 36 MiB/s to 123 MiB/s, 240% Test setup: DB Nodes: 3 Instance Type: i3.xlarge / i3.8xlarge Replication Factor (RF): 3 Consistency Level (CL): QUORUM Compaction Strategy: Size-Tiered Dataste: 1B keys per node
