Organizations are changing
Now, as the digital disruption is approaching the plateau of productivity, the next disruption is emerging, namely how we organize us.
Focus is going to be on organizing, not organizations
1: Smaller teams
2: Relations beat skills
3: Intense sprints
4: Everyone is a leader
5: Listen, then decide
6: Sense-making
7: Step down from the Ivory Tower
8: Follower-ship beats leadership
9: Not more, but better
“With great power comes great responsibility”
Taking responsibility is the first step towards leadership. One cannot exist without the other. Effective leaders do not manage people, instead they inspire, coach and enable the people they work with. Experience the difference with People-centric leadership as you put ‘people’ first in people management.
This presentation is used in interactive sessions that help managers with people responsibilities to honestly explore their leadership skills and equip them with the building blocks required to practice people-centric leadership. It’s time we shift our focus back on the people who make our teams and the organization a success story.

Appreciative Inquiry & Change ManagementBrent Jones
This talk starts with a general overview of developments in the field of Change Management, and goes on to explore the hot new field of Appreciative Inquiry (AI). AI has received much attention in organizational development (OD) circles, and has been successfully used in a wide range of change management initiatives around the world. However, there are still relatively few published reports related to AI initiatives in Japan. The presenter will argue for an approach to Change Management that focuses on peak experiences, individual and institutional strengths, and increased human potential and empowerment. Participants will be introduced to the 4D cycle (Discovery-Dream-Design-Destiny) developed by David L. Cooperrider and his colleagues at Case Western Reserve University, and shown how professional development activities have been developed for each of these phases. Together with other findings in the field of positive psychology, this 4D AI cycle should be a welcome addition to the manager's toolbox.
For years, manufacturing companies have been striving towards enterprise excellence throughout their organizations utilizing the philosophy, thinking and tools of lean. There are two basic pillars of lean including continuous improvement tools, and respect for people. There has been a very strong focus on the continuous improvement tools (kaizens, value stream mapping, A3 problem solving, 5S, cells/flow, setup reduction, etc.) with very little emphasis on respect for people. Businesses struggle with understanding the skills and abilities of leadership at every level of the organization required to inspirationally lead towards excellence.
As a result of the combination of the process initiatives over the past 100 years, seven out of eight people report leaving their jobs each day feeling that they work for a company that does not care about them. People are disengaged and unenthusiastic about their work resulting in huge losses of productivity to the entire organization.
Recently, the Association for Manufacturing Excellence (AME), the premier not-for-profit organization dedicated to the journey of continuous improvement and enterprise excellence, invited Barry-Wehmiller to partner with them in addressing the challenges facing manufacturing today. Together they hope to lead the way in transforming manufacturing companies through adoption of people-centric leadership practices. Their vision is to ignite a manufacturing renaissance driven by people-centric leadership coupled with enterprise excellence.

"People over Process" slides that are about coming back to the heart of Agile: People!
Intro - People over Process.
Agile = Culture. Whole Agile.
Focus on People: Vulnerability, Authentic Connection, Safety & Trust (VAST)
People-centric organizations (Laloux Culture Model)
People-centric Change
To thrive in today’s dynamic and unpredictable business environment we need novel ways of doing things, whatever the economic climate. So in an age when traditional skills can be outsourced or automated, creative thinking skills are highly sought after.
We train and develop employees at all levels to think creatively and solve problems. We do this by helping them understand their creative strengths and take new approaches to business issues. Often this involves a significant degree of change – unlearning existing ways of working to adopt a more flexible, curious approach.
To ensure these new skills and behaviours are fully utilised and recognised, we also help organisations integrate innovation-friendly working practices into corporate HR policy. This includes how to promote and reward creative thinking, how to integrate this into appraisals and performance reviews, and how to recruit for innovation.

Cambridge Social Innovation Presentation social innovation meetup [autosaved]Jeanette Sjoberg
+Acumen is the largest social sector online learning platform in the world. The Cambridge Social Innovation Hub was founded to create space for social entrepreneurs to learn skills that help serve themselves and people better. This presentation was given to another meetup group in Cambridge, CamCreatives, to showcase the last course we ran - "Human Centred Design for Social Innovation" - a creative and collaborative problem solving technique that promotes divergent and convergent thinking, contribution from interdisciplinary skilled people (complete strangers) and a chosen design challenge where a product or service is always developed on the back of the course. It's all about mindsets and moving from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset, empowering people. Anyone can be a change maker and anyone can be a social entrepreneur. An entrepreneur is someone that creates opportunities from resources that are already available. A social entrepreneur is one that additionally aims and delivers social impact.
We outline a fundamentally different approach for organizational change: one where valuing people is integral to building lasting success.
Agile and Lean are a means to an end. Once we are clear what our goals are and our approach is consistent with what we truly value, then we may hope for success.
When we simplify the Agile Manifesto’s “Individuals and Interactions over Processes and Tools” we get “People over Process”. Agile is about people. It’s about a people-first culture. Lean is simliar.
Sadly, many organizations are mired in organizational debt: mistrust, politics and fear. Changing the process won’t fix this. We need to go to the root of it - to find a way to talk about and shift to a healthier culture: one that values people.
The VAST (Vulnerability, Authentic Connection, Safety and Trust) model makes the dynamics of human systems visible and clarifies where we may apply leverage to foster lasting change.
Why facts do not change people - TEDx Warwick 2015Scott McArthur
In this annotated version of my TEDx talk I consider why we often seem to ignore facts whilst being perfectly happy to believe nonsense? We can learn from our opponents and I present a few lessons from both sides that I hope will help people change...oh and there's a little tribute to Spock who sadly died just before our event took place
The carrot and heuristic - The big problem with bigdataScott McArthur
I believe that there is a problem with technology and data that we really have to take more time to consider – the fact that both create an abstract context that can lead people to do the most ridiculous things (including killing people – yes it’s that serious). Paying attention to the psychology of the abstract, perception and cultural memes will make our ideas and technologies more effective and efficient and much more appealing to the public and our customers.

Enterprise Excellence is Inclusive Excellence.pdfKaiNexus
Enterprise excellence and inclusive excellence are closely linked, and real-world challenges have shown that both are essential to the success of any organization. To achieve enterprise excellence, organizations must focus on improving their operations and processes while creating an inclusive environment that engages everyone. In this interactive session, the facilitator will highlight commonly established business practices and how they limit our ability to engage everyone every day. More importantly, though, participants will likely gain increased awareness of what we can do differently to maximize enterprise excellence through deliberate inclusion.
What is Enterprise Excellence?
Enterprise Excellence is a holistic approach that's aimed at achieving world-class performance across all aspects of the organization.
What might I learn?
A way to engage all in creating Inclusive Excellence. Lessons from the US military and their parallels to the story of Harry Potter. How belt systems and CI teams can destroy inclusive practices. How leadership language invites people to the party. There are three things leaders can do to engage everyone every day: maximizing psychological safety to create environments where folks learn, contribute, and challenge the status quo.
Who might benefit? Anyone and everyone leading folks from the shop floor to top floor.

...it's been a real pleasure spending time together and selfishly from my point of view the focus has been on me! I have found the
experience enlightening, challenging, very therapeutic and have come out of it feeling I have more clarity as to what I want out of
things going forward and a reminder of how others must perceive me. I recognise that although I don't like being challenged as to
'why' and 'what do you mean by that' if only others would do the same and be so open with feedback there would be real tangible
benefits for all.
I now have a route forward, understand how I'm going to get there and my personal timescales. This has made me feel considerably
more relaxed which in itself not only benefits me but my team and my work balance – Head of Trading, M&S 2013
