The study investigates multidrug-resistant Escherichia coli (E. coli) isolated from men with urinary tract infections (UTIs) attending prostate clinics in Enugu, Nigeria, revealing a 72% prevalence of E. coli with significant resistance to multiple antibiotics. Plasmid profiling indicated that all resistant strains contained similar plasmids, typically around 18kb in size, highlighting the alarming nature of antibiotic resistance patterns in this region. The findings emphasize the urgent need for monitoring antibiotic susceptibility to inform treatment and policy decisions.
