Analysis of Baseball
When viewing the stanza of the poem Analysis of Baseball the author describes the game of
baseball. Using the elements personification, onomatopoeia, consonance and, rhymes words. So,
therefore the poem can come alive to many baseball fans. The author also uses metaphor to compare
bat, ball, and mitt.
In this poem, Analysis of Baseball written by May Swenson, the author is using figurative
language to bring baseball alive for the readers. He uses personification in the stanza Bat waits for
ball to mate . Which he uses homonym to relate bat an animal to bat a piece of wood used to hit a

Manhattan Beach Research Paper
Summer day in Manhattan Beach It was another scorching hot summer day in Los Angeles,
California. Manhattan Beach is the place to be on a hot California summer weekend. Any time
the temperature hits 80 or above in California the beach is where we go. This day was one of
those days, the temperature hit 89 degrees, and it was sticky hot. The type of heat that makes
you feel like you re going to melt. I hate hot days, preferably I like cold nights. You can just grab
a blanket and sip on something warm and you re ok. The beach is the best place to find quick and
free entertainment for the kids and me. We packed our bathing suits and towels and hopped in the
car and headed towards the beach.
The beach is always 10 degrees cooler than inland Los ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I would like to say that I am a very good swimmer in beach waters, and know how to stay away
from the rip current that can pull you into the ocean. One of those days I got too comfortable
with my abilities to swim in strong currents. Like usual I get in the water and only go neck deep
in the water. I love to float and feel weightless for a few minutes, with no gravity to pull me down.
That day I watched the news early Saturday morning, quite unusual since I rarely watch TV to begin
with, but I caught the weather warnings and beach warnings that were said to be in the high 80 s
with stronger than usual rip currents. I bought a new swim suit, it was a black Rockabilly style
halter top one piece and was I determined to wear it. I decided to ignore the warnings I had heard
that morning and got in those waters. Neck deep in the water and enjoying the cool
temperatures, I was worry free. As I got deeper and deeper in the water I felt the strength of the
waves and strong pull of the current nearby. It was nothing I hadn t felt before; I have been in
those same waters over a hundred times at least. Floating like wild sea weed I let myself get
dragged in towards the current pulling in. I begin to try to walk parallel to the beach as you
should do when in such situation. As I felt the strong pull of the current, I remembered the news
cast from early that morning. I realized I was in trouble

For this assignment, I chose my home in Coastal Georgia. This area includes Brunswick (city and

For the saltwater plumes, a saltwater plume is a horizontally moving body of saline fluid that is
contained in the larger, fresh body of water. The plumes come about when there is heavy
retraction from the aquifers resulting in a saltwater intrusion. In order to keep the plume from
reaching any of the retraction sites, or wells, we must keep a close eye on the pumping amounts
at each well. For instance, Georgia Pacific shuts their machinery down for two weeks every
summer, this causes the plume to shift from the middle of two well sites to the well site being
used the most. This can cause the quality of the water to lessen as the taste will become salty and
bitter. While there is an unlimited supply of water coming from the aquifer, the rate at which the
water is being retracted can cause the water to become tainted with plumes, among many other
problems and

Impressionism Vs Impressionism In Art
Throughout the course, we have learned about different types of modern works. The beauty of
learning the history behind them is to better understand how from one form of painting grows
from the other. In this case, impressionist and symbolist works have followed each other in terms
of popularity and yet have extremely different aesthetics. Using the paintings, Dance at Le moulin
de la Galette (Bal du moulin de la Galette) by Pierre Auguste Renoir and The Eye like a Strange
Balloon Mounts toward Infinity (L Е’il, comme un ballon bizarre se dirige vers l infini)
1882 by Odilon Redon I will explain and describe the differences between the two aesthetics and
how they are used in each work of art.
Impressionism emerged in France during the late half of the 19th century and could be
considered one of the first distinctly modern movement in painting. It was often rejected by
many scholars for they believed it lacked a certain high quality or polished look that was seen in
works of art in the past. The idea of Impressionism was for the artist to paint in the moment, to
capture the sensory effect of the scene and in order to create this affect Impressionists moved from
the studio to the streets painting in what is known as, en plein air. In order to create this aesthetic
Impressionist worked with loose brushstrokes and lightened their palattes to achieve pure and
intense colors. Traditional linear perspective was thrown out as well as clarity of form and the idea

Secrets In Romeo And Juliet Essay
Everyone has their own secrets, no matter who you are, or what you do. Secrets sometimes are
good to have. Some things people have to keep to themselves. In the play Romeo and Juliet By
William Shakespeare, secrets are kept quiet to keep peace amongst families. The characters in
this story, have to keep secrets for the good, but also for the bad. The secrets remind them of how
much is at risk with the choices they have been making throughout the story. Throughout this
whole story the Capulet s and the Montague s do not at all get along. Not only does this feud
cause them to hate one another, but it also causes all the families with these names to fight with
the other. Sometimes feuds can change and affect the lives of everyone involved. When they first
got in a fight in the beginning of the story, What, drawn, and talk of peace? I hate the word, As I
hate hell, all Montagues and thee. Have at thee coward! ( Tybalt, Act I, Scene I) This has shown
how huge the feud actually is. Comparing the Montague s to something very worse than life.

Perceval Lancelot Character Analysis
Love is always one of the most everlasting themes in the Arthurian stories. While referring to the
famous love stories, Lancelot and Guinevere, Tristan and Iseult are a kind of example, and
another kind of example is Perceval. As we all know, Lancelot is often exemplified as the perfect
image of a qualified knight, and the most unique quality of Lancelot as a perfect image of a lover
is his staunch belief in love. However, he is isolated from the divine love and only limited in sexual
self love. On the other hand, the spiritual pursuit is the center theme in the story of Perceval. Both
love and Christian charity emerge in the development of Perceval. The transformation of

Perceval hasn t already developed the capacity to feel compassion and to act charitably, and he
would be unable to understand the implications of Christ s Passion. Luckily, Perceval starts to
change, as he meets knights and ladies on the trail, they point out that he shouldn t bear arms on
Good Friday. They have gone to see a holy hermit, so they suggest Perceval see the hermit and
make a confession for his sin, which becomes the turning point for Perceval to realize his sin and
plans to remove it by meeting the hermit. In this way, the biggest quest for Perceval is to clear his
sin and to reunite under the name of God, rather than finding the grail physically. The hermit, who
later claimed to be his uncle, tells Perceval to repent for his soul. The meeting between the hermit
and Perceval signifies that the relationship among major characters in the story of Perceval, and
revives the identity of Perceval. The meeting also identifies the sin of Perceval: leaving his mom
and being hesitant to ask the proper question about the grail and bleeding lance. Beside these, the
most important function of the hermit is to tell the way of acting, as Chretien says through the

parameters of a PID controller in an Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) system by the approach
of Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Differential Evolution (DE) Techniques is presented.
This paper demonstrated in detail how to employ the PSO and DE methods to search efficiently
the optimal PID controller parameters of an AVR system. A MATLAB simulation has been
performed. The proposed approach had superior features, including easy implementation, stable
convergence characteristic, and good computational efficiency. In order to assist estimating the
performance of the PID controller using PSO and DE, Minimum Error Integral (MEI) criterion
Integral Absolute Error (IAE), Integral Square Error (ISE), Integral Time Absolute Error (ITAE)
and Integral Time Square Error (ITSE) are used.

Alcibiades In Plato s Symposium Essay
The Tragedy of Alcibiades in Plato s Symposium
In Symposium, a selection from The Dialogues of Plato, Plato uses historical allusions to
demonstrate Alcibiades frustration with both social expectations for the phallus and his inability to
meet these expectations. Alcibiades inability to have a productive sexual relationship effectively
castrates him and demonstrates the impotence caused by an overemphasis on eroticism. The
tragedy of Alcibiades is that he realizes he is unable to gain virtue through sexual relationships and
will therefore be forced to remain mortal, yet he is unable to alter his condition.
Symposium is set during a festival for Dionysus, the goddess of fertility; this setting emphasizes the
sexual expectations of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Socrates attempts to justify homosexual relationships by quoting Diotima s differentiation between
heterosexual relationships ( those who are pregnant in terms of their bodies and produce children)
and homosexual relationships (those who are pregnant in terms of the soul and produce prudence
and the rest of virtue in their partner) (Plato 271).2 This ideal of productivity in homosexual
relationships is realized by the lover passing knowledge and wisdom on to his beloved. Thus,
Socrates successfully justifies homosexual relationships; with this reasoning, he demonstrates to the
other partygoers that their homosexual relationships must be productive to be justified.
Despite Alcibiades numerous male lovers (Crane),3 Plato portrays Alcibiades as unable to realize
any productive sexual relationship (Crane Plutarch)4 because he fails to become the virtuous man
that a productive relationship would have produced. Alcibiades admits that he occasionally
succumbs to the honor [he gets] from many. Alcibiades is referring to the instances when, instead
of spending time with Socrates, he surrender[s] himself to the flatterers who [tempt] him with many
pleasures (Crane Plutarch). Alcibiades is prevented from having a productive sexual relationship by
his sexual urges and overemphasis on physical eroticism. Alcibiades

Philippa Foot Double Effect Definition
Philippa Foot, a philosopher, argued that moral judgments have a rational basis. The choices we
make in our lives are based on a number of varying and different factors. Theories such as the
principle of double effect are meant to back up the choices we make in society. The doctrine of the
double effect relies strongly on the difference between what a person foresees as an outcome of
their individual actions, and what they actually intended the outcome to be (Timmons, 2012, p. 93).
This theory refers to two very identifiable results. The first, is that the action may produce the one
aimed at , and second, the one foreseen but in no way desired. Foot further explains that oblique
intention and direct intention are often determining factors in the principle of double effect.
Through oblique intention, a person brings about an effect that was unintended and through direct
intention a person brings about an effect intentionally (Timmons, 2012, p. 94).
To support this viewpoint, Foot uses an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

worker in order to save the five workers from the runaway train. In fact, it would be a relief, if the

not if the worker fled, chased down the conductor and killed him. Furthermore, as Foot suggests,
it is much worse, morally, to intentionally harm someone as a means to an end than it is to simply
foresee that harm will be done to someone as an unintended side effect of one s ends. Therefore, in
the case of the runaway train, it is permissible to kill the one worker because the conductor s
primary intention is to save the lives of the five workers. The death of the one worker on the side

A Short History of the Jews
Jews from Eastern Europe immigrated to the USA almost after the founding of the Nation, but
they arrived in droves only between the period of the two World wars when czarist persecution
became overwhelming and Jews sought the land paved with gold (and they really believed it to
be such calling America the Goldeneh medinah (Golden Nation) ) with a fervor and frenzy. This
number increased after world war II and today many of the Jews who live in America originate
from Eastern Europe. Most fascinatingly they clashed with their western counterparts who had
lived in America long before them, saw themselves as more suited to the American civilized way
of life and derided the Eastern European Jews as being both greenhorns and primitive. The early
Jews who first came to America were largely British. These were succeeded by German Jews. It
was German Jews who produced the large corporations such as Macy s,and German Jews who
became th diplomats, politicians,a nd financiers. They had the American manners and sought to
become more American than the Americanized. The movies the Jazz Singer s son epitomizes one
of these kinds of Jews as does Gentleman s Agreement . Hester Street , on the other hand,
portrays the naive, uneducated Jew who came from eastern European coasts paranoid with the

The Evil of Human Trafficking
Introduction Human Trafficking is one of the most heinous crimes that operate over transnational
boundaries. The act of human trafficking is highlighted as a criminalized activity according to the
article 5 of the Trafficking in Persons Protocol set out by United Nations Office of Drugs and
Crime. While Human Trafficking is generally attributed to the Less Developed Countries. This is
because the socio economic dynamics along with weaker law and order situation provide a strong
environment for this activity to take place. That said the developed countries have an equally
important role to play in the prevalence of Human Trafficking. What is Human Trafficking? As
implied by the word, and in simple words, human trafficking involves smuggling of human
individuals across Trans national boundaries. However, over the years it has been realized that there
are far more other angles to human trafficking beyond mere smuggling. For this reason, the United
Nations Office of Drugs and Crime has given a comprehensive definition of human trafficking
under the article 3 of its Trafficking in Persons Protocol. According to the definition given by the
United Nations, the act of human trafficking involves, recruiting, transporting, harboring,
transferring or receiving of persons by means of fraud, exploitation, force, coercion, threat,
deception, or offering of some kind of unlawful benefits (Potts, 2003). Generally, human trafficking

Dependency Theory Of Soft Power
After the explanation of soft power information, how does the soft power penetrate the media
content to others country? It is because of dependency theory. Dependency theory is basically a
domination theory/ system which makes the develop country get richer, and developing country get

Ted Bundy was a brutal serial killer. He was also very charming and handsome to the ladies, which
made it easier to prey on them. He admitted to killing over twenty people just before his execution.
Many families were relieved when he was finally executed. Ted Bundy thought of himself as very
smart, because he was able to outsmart the authorities multiple times throughout the years of being
a serial killer ( Gerdes 41).
His victims of choice were young, college age, women ( Gerdes 128). He ... Show more content on

He made himself look innocent through just about anything the authorities threw at him. Bundy
helped himself out by saying he had been badly represented by counsel ( A Condemned 49). The
authorities believed he had killed at least forty people, but it was very hard to prove it. Dentists
analyzed bite marks on one of the Chi Omega s victim s buttocks, and compared them to an
oversized picture of Bundy s teeth (Knappaman 655). It was determined that there was a
considerable amount of similarities, and it was used against Ted as evidence. This was the first
hard evidence the authorities had against him in the trial. He sensed danger of being convicted
and tried his best to cover it up, but failed. The police also innocent found knotted panty hose like
those used to strangle previous victims at the Chi Omega House. They had finally found an
eyewitness who was named Nita Neary, which helped a great deal. They finally proved him guilty
with this evidence. After his conviction Bundy admitted to killing about twenty people, which
included Debi Kent on November 8, 1974, and Nancy Wilcox on October 7, 1974.
On July 23, 1978, Ted was found guilty on multiple charges (Knappaman 655). Later on in 1979,
he was sentenced to death. He received his third death sentence on February 12, 1980, following
his conviction of killing Kimberly Leach. He was convicted of three separate

My Writing Of A College Level Writing Course
At the beginning of the term, I came into this class not feeling very confident about my writing. I
had taken writing classes in the past, but none to the extent of a college level writing course. One
of the skills that I found I lacked the most was my vocabulary. While my writing structure was
often not a problem my writingdid not sound as sophisticated as it could be. I occasionally used a
thesaurus but this would often cause problems as sometimes the words would not quite agree
with the meaning of my sentence. Throughout the term the one thing that helped me the most
with this problem were the workshops. As my peers corrected my paper they helped me to come
up with more intelligent words to get my point across to the reader. I believe that without the
inclusion of these workshops my essays would not have been as cleanly written. For upcoming
classes one aspect of writing that I would like to focus on is my ability to stay on topic. A lot of
the time I tend to become so engulfed in one reasoning for my argument that my mind begins to
wander elsewhere. Ultimately my essaystructure will suffer because of this, so in order to stay
more focused I want to start making outlines before I write out my essays. With an outline it will
be easier for me to stay on topic since I will have a structure to follow. Also by having an outline I
can find my quotes and compose my topic sentences ahead of time, making it easier for me to see if
my ideas will fit well together. This will also

The Flea, Rochester s The Imperfect Enjoyment
Dysfunction seems to be a common theme throughout many of the literature readings, which were
required over the course of this semester. The literary texts I am going to write about are the
following: John Donne s The Flea, Rochester s The Imperfect Enjoyment, The Maids Complaint,
and Aphra Behn s The Disappointment. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the definition
of dysfunction is, any abnormality or impairment of function. In my opinion, The Flea, The
Imperfect Enjoyment, The Maids Complaint, and The Disappointment are four examples of sexual
dysfunction in the texts we have read for this course. The exploration of the four texts is sexual
dysfunction. Sexual dysfunction described in the ballad and poems are taken on as a humorous
topic or can be read as not only a sexual dysfunction but some men views on women in society and
their own anxieties... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The man and woman are lying together making out with each other and suddenly there s, But

American Pie, in which a young student has an unexpected pleasure of hooking up with a foreign
exchange student. Before they get into any type of sexual intercourse he experiences this
embarrassing unexpected ejaculation. The Imperfect Enjoyment shows the man scolds his penis by

Position Paper on Relevance of It
Position Paper on Relevance of Information Technology
Information technology has undoubtedly become an indispensable part of our day to day lives.
Both the articles considered for analysis projects the role of IT, from being the back bone of
commerce to handling huge volumes of data, as being highly significant in the modern world. Even
though both Nicholas Carr and Erik Brynjolfsson are in agreement to the omnipresence of IT, their
perception of the future of IT differs vastly. I am in accordance with the school of thought put forth
by Nicholas Carr which believes that the strategic value of IT has reduced. For all the inventions
that had revolutionized the world there has been a point where these inventions become inevitable

Most of the companies invest in new technologies when the existing versions can very well serve
the purpose. Hence emphasis should be given to effectively managing and maintaining the existing
technology rather than unnecessarily investing on more technology. IT can be replicated very
easily and is subject to rapid deflation making it a bad investment. It is always better to wait rather
than rush to buy a new technology since a better version is always available before the newly
purchased one is ready to use. Also it is very difficult to turn temporary technological advantages to
enduring positioning ones. Hence more emphasis should be given in fixing the vulnerabilities
rather than investing on a soon to be outdated technology. I agree with Carr that the companies in
order to achieve a better return should manage risks and costs meticulously rather than resorting to
seeking aggressive advantage. Also we have indeed spent much more than necessary on IT that the
available technology is much advanced than what is required in the most cases.
Brynjolfsson s four paradigms for innovation, i.e., measurement, experimentation, sharing and
replication, in my opinion, put forth a best practice that can be adopted to achieve innovation.
This model can be replicated by companies to achieve a desired effect. It has in turn been discussed
by Carr that a best practice can be

Stephen Krashen s Theory Of Second Language Acquisition
This is the result of my observation based on those aspects:
1.Teacher s classroom management At that time, the condition of the classroom is noisy enough.
The girl students are more taciturn than the boy students. Most of the boy students are naughty, like
to disrupt other students, and less respect to the teacher. So, there are some ways which are done to
manage the class, they are:
a.Managing students to pay attention to the lesson The teacher tried to give attention by knocking
the whiteboard and said Students, please listen to me when the classroom became noisy.
b.Managing students who are having disruptive behavior If there is a student who disrupt other

The acquired system or acquisition is the product of a subconscious process very similar to the

their utterances, but in the communicative act.

Snakes are Infected with Ophidian Paramyxovirus Virus
Ophidian paramyxovirus is a virus that affects snakes, particularly in the family Viperidae; it
compromises the immune system, which can lead to mortality through secondary bacterial
infections. This negative sense, single stranded RNA virus infects the respiratory system and
can be transmitted through feces, respiratory tract secretions, fomites, or vectors such as mites;
as such, in captivity, good husbandry practices are critical to prevent transmission of this
disease. Paramyxovirus is a viral pathogen. The natural host and origin for this virus is unknown,
but it is possible that it is not a viperid (5). The first reported outbreak of paramyxovirus in snakes
was in a group of Brazilian lancehead vipers in a serpentarium in Switzerland (1). These vipers
were originally from Brazil, so it is likely that the origin of the virus is found in Brazil (5). The
virus itself is an RNAvirus consisting of a filamentous particle enveloped in a spiked membrane,
and can be between 140 and 321 nanometers in diameter. The virus replicates at an optimal
temperature of 30В°C, so the disease is a particular concern in colder seasons (3). This virus is
easily transmitted between individuals, particularly when they are housed close to each other. It is
most often transmitted through respiratory secretions (2). It can also be transmitted through
aerosols, such as sputum, and oral and cloacal secretions. The virus may persist in water and may
be spread through feces. It can also be

Dynamic Tuning In or Empathetic Listening
We ve all dealt with this scenario: James does something that Mickey takes as an insult. Mickey
strikes back with either words or fists. James, now confused, provides equal violence of Mickey s
actions. A scenario like this can quickly turn sour even when both parties had no reason to start
aggression. The reason for all this fuss is a mistake to understand communication. Although there
may be other sources to conflicts, this is what lies in the most of said conflicts.
Indeed, misinterpretation of plans or goals can occur when both parties fail to communicate with
another. When these two groups are not conferencing, is no way to be clear on goals, plans, or
positions; effects of this can also start rumors. Even when groups speak as politely and even seem
genuine about their actions towards one another, there can be still the problem of cultural
backgrounds or language that ruins the chance of communication from being happening.
Even with parties with vast cultural backgrounds, misconceptions can develop since personal
communication styles. One individual can ask question after question to seem curious, but another
individual will be enraged by this line of questioning and demand to stop. Male and female are

Christianity And Disobedience
Disobedience, Deliverance, Destruction. After the death of Joshua, the men of Judah and Joseph
conquered their territory and drove out the Canaanites, being obedient, but all the other tribes did
not. This signified a lack of trust in the Lord to fight their battles and was disobedient. Destroying
idols was a part of the covenant and most of Israel did not do this and God cursed them. Because
they had not destroyed the Canaanites, they would forever be in tension with them. The Israelites
repented of their sins, but the curse still was in place. One generation after the death of Joshua did
not know the Lord and was disobedient. This also shows that the previous faithful generation did

Deborah was a prophetess and she told Barak to attack the king, Sisera, and his army because the
Lord was with him. But Barak was afraid and cowardly. He did not trust God, and because of this
Deborah went with him. Then later Sisera was killed by Jael, another woman because God
would not give Barak the glory of killing the king because Barak had not trusted him. The
cowardice of the men shows the lawlessness and ungodliness of the generation. Midian oppressed
Israel, and yet again a judge is called, but Gideon is cowardly as well and God has to prove to
him over and over again that God should be trusted and obeyed. In the end of his life, Gideon
also made an ephod which in turn all of Israel worshiped. Though it does not say Gideon did, he
also did not dissuade people and in the end, Gideon was not honored. The godlessness of the
Israelites is shown again in the story of Abimelech which is characterized by quarreling, mass
murder, and idolatry. Samson also I how God used broken, disobedient people for his glory and
to keep his promises. The tribe of Dan also continues to be disobedient, as prophesied by Jacob.

Application Of Using An Application For A Communication...
Any user using an application in a communication network will expect the quality of the application
to be high without annoying interruptions or delays. In mobile environments due to user mobility,
interference and varying channel conditions lead to a variation of the available network resources
which ultimately affects application quality. An approach named over the top (OTT) virtual access
network allows the aggregation of multiple wireless networks into a single IP pipe to provide users
with more bandwidth.
So how do you define bandwidth? Bandwidth is a measurement of bit rate of available or

We Shall Overcome Summary
The article, We Shall Overcome: Promoting an Agenda for Integrating Spirituality and Community
Practice by Anthony J. Hill and Linda Plitt Donaldson (2012) detailed the role of spirituality in
social work community practice and investigated previous research conducted integrating
spirituality into community practice. The article described the relationship between organized
religionand community outreach, since many religions offer assistance to needy members of their
congregations and communities.
An important claim of the authors was the lack of studies conducted about incorporating spirituality
into community practice. Spirituality has been studied at micro levels of social work and been
found to be influential in helping individuals, therefore, it is possible that it would be beneficial in
macro practice as well, furthermore, studies should be done to determine spirituality s efficiency in
community practice (Hill Donaldson, 2012).

Social workers should be aware of this fact and give religious leaders information on how to help
these individuals and inform the leaders of resources available to the victims. I spoke to a pastor

domestic violence was an issue he and his wife were very passionate about. Spirituality is also
connected to the community and organizing social movements. Spirituality can help motivate
individuals towards a common purpose or goal, and religious organizations have assisted
communities in meeting needs for social change and can be an ally of community practitioners

Essay On Stereotype Threat
The Effects of Stereotype Threat and Self Enhancement on Self Esteem Stereotypes or widely
held and oversimplified beliefs about a person or thing have both pros and cons and we are all
guilty of using them. Although they have made life easier by helping us quickly navigate the
world and have helped us understand different cultures norms and values they can also turn sour
when they undermine a culture by portraying them in a negative light. Negative stereotypes about
African Americans are an example of this. Today s culture is filled with stereotypes about African
Americans. For instance, according to Welch (2007) In American society, a prevalent
representation of crime is that it is overwhelmingly committed by young Black men (p. 276).
Continuing on, Welch (2007) notes that the image of a young Black male as a violent and
menacing street thug is fueled and perpetuated by typifications everywhere (p. 276). Such
stereotypes can play a major role in how one views a particular group and if one is part of that in
group, how they might view themselves. Nonetheless, my group chose to focus specifically on
stereotype threat. Stereotype threat is defined as the fear of confirming a negative stereotype about

The Child Of Polish Immigrants
Born on April 29, 1938 in Queens New York Bernie Madoff was the child of Polish immigrants.
Madoff showed little interest in his early years for finance. He went on to graduate from Hofstra
University and married soon after. Madoff used a modest $5,000 he had saved and $50,000
borrowed from his father0in law to begin his investment firm in the 1960s. On December 11, 2008
it all came to an end. Madoff would go on to plead guilty to 11 felony counts including but not
limited to securities fraud, mail fraud, wire fraud, money laundering, and perjury. Prosecutors
would claim that over $170 billion was moved through Madoffs firm over the years, just prior to
his arrest 65 billion dollars was being shown on the financial statements. Bernie Madoff ran what is
by extreme measures the largest Ponzi scheme in world history. His investment company was
multinational and at its height handled more than five percent of the total trading volume on the
New York Stock Exchange. Ponzi schemes are operations in which the operator pays investor
returns from new capital paid to the operator by new investors rather than from profit earned. Ponzi
schemes often begin as legitimate investment businesses until the legitimate investment business

Investigating the rate of reaction between Marble Chips (Calcium Carbonate) and hydrochloric acid
Aim.
In the investigation I am going to find out how the surface area affects the rate of reaction by
measuring the amount of gas produced and weight loss in a reaction between small/large pieces of
Marble
Chips (Calcium Carbonate) and Hydrochloric acid per minute.
Hypothesis.
The rate of reaction increases when the surface area of a solid reactant is increased. This happens
because by increasing the surface area we are also increasing the rate of collisions between the
particles. When there is more of the reactant to react with the reaction speeds up. Therefore, my
hypothesis is: the reaction will be faster when using small ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This increased the accuracy of the obtained results.
GRAPH
From the table of results and the graphs I can deduce that by increasing the surface area the rate
at which the gas was produced also increased. The line which represented the amount of gas given
off on the graph was steeper in the test using powder therefore the gas was produced at a faster
rate. Roughly the same amount of gas was produced in all tests. Therefore my hypothesis was
correct.
Evaluation.
As I repeated the experiment 3 times and worked out the average rate of reaction in each test, I
think my results are quite reliable.
However, I could make further improvement by increasing the number of tests and taking the
results with a smaller gap such as 10 seconds instead of 20. I could also increase the amount of

Revolution, which urbanized most of France. But the Industrial Revolutionwas not the only thing
that changed France. The monarchy fell the church changed, and the role people had in their jobs
and family life change drastically.
In the sixteenth century France was mainly a farming country. People lived in small communities
and rarely died in a town other than where they were born (Gildea 42). Family life was quit simple,
men married when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During this time in France the church was very powerful politically and economically, the church
did not really want to educate many people, especially poor people (Gildea 225). Life for nobles
and clergy were very different from the farmers in the 1700 s. Nobles did not have to work. They
basically had nice things and lived in big houses and ate a lot of good food. Noble s daily meals
consisted of a variety of meats, and sides of cheese and wine (Gildea 119). Bread and anything
grown in the ground was considered peasant food and was not eaten by the nobles at all. This is
the way life had been and it slowly began to change in the 1700 s.
The scientific revolution and the enlightenment began to alter the everyday life of people in
France. Navigation became a huge part of many people s lives. Men began to study the sky s
more to figure out where they were on the sea s (Turner 482). The study of the sky led some to
make hypotheses about the universe. During this time there was a rebirth of the quest for
knowledge. Universities grew during this time; it became more popular to know how to read and
write. And the middle class society began to grow and grow. At this point in time monarchies have
more power than ever before, they rule everything, including the churches and the military (Davis
55). Louis XIV build Versailles in hopes of creating the richest and most powerful nation in the
world. Nobles are invited to

Summary Of Post American World
What makes the book, Post American World, by Fareed Zakaria so interesting is the fact that many
of the points made about the decline of America and what needs to be changed is the direct
commotion of the current political campaigns. As a young growing male developing my
understanding of how the country and countries work and interact the idea of the Post American
World, allowed me to understand why the election this year is so different compared to the past.
Although I was not as present in the past election, the commotion that has been caused to this year
has brought more attention to me and the world than it has before. Within the book the idea that the
U.S. has been doing so well and has created the best of the best things, times have started

Advantages Of Refrigeration
FABRICATION AND TESTING OF ICE PLANT TEST RIG
ABSTRACT
Refrigeration may be defined as the process of achieving and maintaining a temperature below that
of the surrounding, the aim being to freeze to ice, cool some product, or space to the required
temperature. The basis of modern refrigeration is the ability of liquids to absorb enormous
quantities of heat as they boil and evaporate. One of the most important applications of refrigeration
air conditioning is to produce ice for commercial applications with minimum energy consumption.
Ice plant is used for producing refrigeration effect which uses the vapor compression cycle and by
using this cycle we are doing performance and analysis of ice plant test rig using R404A Eco
friendly Refrigerant. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

COMPRESSOR
In this Ice Plant we use the reciprocating compressor. The compressor in which the vapour
refrigerant is compressed by reciprocating motion of piston is known as reciprocating
compressor. The purpose of compressor in the vapour compression cycle is to compress the low
pressure dry gas from the evaporator and raise its pressure to that of condenser. There are two
types of reciprocating compressor, Positive Displacement and Dynamic. In this plant we are using
positive displacement hermetic compressor. Since the compression of the refrigerant requires some
work to be done on it, therefore a compressor must be driven by some prime mover. The prime
mover is an electric motor which converts input electrical energy to useful mechanical work. This
work is transmitted as torque to the compressor through common shaft and coupling

NYAA Cheer Nationals
NYAA Cheer Nationals in Las Vegas There I was, In the Colorado Airport with some of my
teammates. We were sitting on the chairs waiting to aboard our second flight, that will later then
take us to Las Vegas, Nevada, for our NYAA Cheerleading Nationals. The NYAA Cheer
Nationals is the biggest competition of our season, and in order to go, you have to place top 3 at
Regions and State, and get the bid to go. We were really excited to be there this year. The team
went to Myrtle Beach last year for 2016 Nationals, but this was before I was on the team. At the
2016 Nationals, they hit 0, and had no deductions and still did not even place. So when we went
into Nationals, we did not even think that we were gonna place top 5. The goal was to place top 3,
and the dream was to get first.
We had a lot of fun because a lot of us got there like about 3 days before the actual competition.
So, we would go to the pool and or just walk around because there was a food court and bowling
alley, so we would have fun. We would just run around and eat all day and have team bonding
time. We had practice the day before our competition and we hit everything and was doing really
good.
The next morning we woke up bright and early to get everyone s hair and makeup ... Show more

But when they called us up for top 5, we started screaming. Then we went up on the big mat, circled
with my team holding hands, and they called 5th place, it wasn t us. So then we thought we were
gonna get 4th, and they did not call us.. By then, we were all crying. We for sure we were gonna
get 3rd after that, but they did not call us, so then we were all balling. Then they called second
and it was us, we were all crying our eyes out. If the stunt would not have dropped we would have
gotten first place, but that drives us to work harder. It was an amazing time that I will never forget,
and it was

Relationship Between Belief And Knowledge
Firstly, The Shining provides a pessimistic outlook of the dichotomous relationship between
belief and knowledge in relation to deontology. As Malory Nye details, Robert Tonkinson observes
a clear divide between religiosity and belief. What an external observer may classify as a belief
may be commonsensical to a religious follower (Nye 2008, 122). As a result, religious belief can
become an explanation in itself (Nye 2008, 117). In The Shining, Jack and Wendy represent
opposing points of view on the issue. Furthermore, Wendy does not understand Jack s beliefs,
but Jack considers them a form of knowledge; Wendy s inability to agree with him causes
significant conflict between the two. Wendy merely sees Jack going mad because of what she
thinks are his beliefs about the hotel. Wendy even outright proclaims her confusion when Jack
asks her why she wants to go back to her room in the midst of a debate. However, to Jack, the
occurrences in the hotel are facts. They predicate the actions which drive Jack to the violence he
commits throughout the film, and are thus a basis for his deontology. Thus, the religious
commonsensical knowledge Jack possesses works in tandem with his deontological views to make
him a violent threat to everyone that does not share his abilities. This provides a clear display of
the way The Shining negatively portrays the effect extreme religious values and deontology have
on a human s psychology.
Furthermore, Kubrick incorporates theories about

Digue To Face In Life Essay
Mrs Smith is 97 years old; she has two children, a daughter and a son. She lost her husband over 20
years ago so her children have always played a big part helping her with her care weather that
was when she was at home or when she came to us at Eastbourne House. Her family is quite
small so they are very close and they still spend a lot of time together making sure they come to
visit at least 3 times a week.
Mrs Smith suffers from depression and takes various medications to help with this but she is an
overall happy lady. She enjoys spending time chatting with other service users or spending time in
her room listening to her music.
A couple of months ago Mrs Smith was told the sad news that her unwell daughter in law had sadly
passed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One the day of the funeral I spent some time with Mrs Smith to make sure she was okay. I asked
her if she would like to write a letter to her daughter in law which we could put in an envelope
and set on fire, as if it was going up to heaven with her. She liked this idea but explained to me
she would struggle to write it herself and asked me if I could sit with her and help her to think of
the words to say and if I would write it out for her. I agreed to do this and I explained to Mrs
Smith that this was a very personal thing she had asked me to do and reassured her that what
was written in the letter would strictly stay between me and her and this comforted her. At 11am
that day myself, Mrs Smith, her neighbour and our activities co ordinator went out into the back
garden and had the service, to which Mrs Smith said a few words and we sprinkled the ashes of the
letter in a corner of the garden which has a little seating area and explained to Mrs Smith if she
was ever feeling down or sad she was always welcome to come back to this area in the garden to
have a chat or just to sit and think.
After the service Mrs Smith thanked me for my kindness and care on such a hard day to which I
explained to her it was just natural to help her on a day like

One of those days I got too comfortable with my abilities to swim in strong currents. Like usual I get in the water and only go neck deep in the water. I love to float and feel weightless for a few minutes, with no gravity to pull me down. That day I watched the news early Saturday morning, quite unusual since I rarely watch TV to begin with, but I caught the weather warnings and beach warnings that were said to be in the high 80 s with stronger than usual rip currents. I bought a new swim suit, it was a black Rockabilly style halter top one piece and was I determined to wear it. I decided to ignore the warnings I had heard that morning and got in those waters. Neck deep in the water and enjoying the cool temperatures, I was worry free. As I got deeper and deeper in the water I felt the strength of the waves and strong pull of the current nearby. It was nothing I hadn t felt before; I have been in those same waters over a hundred times at least. Floating like wild sea weed I let myself get dragged in towards the current pulling in. The plumes come about when there is heavy retraction from the aquifers resulting in a saltwater intrusion. In order to keep the plume from reaching any of the retraction sites, or wells, we must keep a close eye on the pumping amounts at each well. For instance, Georgia Pacific shuts their machinery down for two weeks every summer, this causes the plume to shift from the middle of two well sites to the well site being used the most. This can cause the quality of the water to lessen as the taste will become salty and bitter. While there is an unlimited supply of water coming from the aquifer, the rate at which the water is being retracted can cause the water to become tainted with plumes, among many other problems and ... • 5. Impressionism Vs Impressionism In Art Throughout the course, we have learned about different types of modern works. The beauty of learning the history behind them is to better understand how from one form of painting grows from the other. In this case, impressionist and symbolist works have followed each other in terms of popularity and yet have extremely different aesthetics. Using the paintings, Dance at Le moulin de la Galette (Bal du moulin de la Galette) by Pierre Auguste Renoir and The Eye like a Strange Balloon Mounts toward Infinity (L Е’il, comme un ballon bizarre se dirige vers l infini) 1882 by Odilon Redon I will explain and describe the differences between the two aesthetics and how they are used in each work of art. Impressionism emerged in France during the late half of the 19th century and could be considered one of the first distinctly modern movement in painting. It was often rejected by many scholars for they believed it lacked a certain high quality or polished look that was seen in works of art in the past. The idea of Impressionism was for the artist to paint in the moment, to capture the sensory effect of the scene and in order to create this affect Impressionists moved from the studio to the streets painting in what is known as, en plein air. In order to create this aesthetic Impressionist worked with loose brushstrokes and lightened their palattes to achieve pure and intense colors. Traditional linear perspective was thrown out as well as clarity of form and the idea that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Alcibiades inability to have a productive sexual relationship effectively castrates him and demonstrates the impotence caused by an overemphasis on eroticism. Socrates attempts to justify homosexual relationships by quoting Diotima s differentiation between heterosexual relationships ( those who are pregnant in terms of their bodies and produce children) and homosexual relationships (those who are pregnant in terms of the soul and produce prudence and the rest of virtue in their partner) (Plato 271).2 This ideal of productivity in homosexual relationships is realized by the lover passing knowledge and wisdom on to his beloved. • 13. Philippa Foot Double Effect Definition Philippa Foot, a philosopher, argued that moral judgments have a rational basis. The choices we make in our lives are based on a number of varying and different factors. Theories such as the principle of double effect are meant to back up the choices we make in society. The doctrine of the double effect relies strongly on the difference between what a person foresees as an outcome of their individual actions, and what they actually intended the outcome to be (Timmons, 2012, p. 93). This theory refers to two very identifiable results. The first, is that the action may produce the one aimed at , and second, the one foreseen but in no way desired. Foot further explains that oblique intention and direct intention are often determining factors in the principle of double effect. Through oblique intention, a person brings about an effect that was unintended and through direct intention a person brings about an effect intentionally (Timmons, 2012, p. 94). • 23. My Writing Of A College Level Writing Course At the beginning of the term, I came into this class not feeling very confident about my writing. I had taken writing classes in the past, but none to the extent of a college level writing course. One of the skills that I found I lacked the most was my vocabulary. While my writing structure was often not a problem my writingdid not sound as sophisticated as it could be. I occasionally used a thesaurus but this would often cause problems as sometimes the words would not quite agree with the meaning of my sentence. Throughout the term the one thing that helped me the most with this problem were the workshops. As my peers corrected my paper they helped me to come up with more intelligent words to get my point across to the reader. I believe that without the inclusion of these workshops my essays would not have been as cleanly written. For upcoming classes one aspect of writing that I would like to focus on is my ability to stay on topic. A lot of the time I tend to become so engulfed in one reasoning for my argument that my mind begins to wander elsewhere. Ultimately my essaystructure will suffer because of this, so in order to stay more focused I want to start making outlines before I write out my essays. With an outline it will be easier for me to stay on topic since I will have a structure to follow. Also by having an outline I can find my quotes and compose my topic sentences ahead of time, making it easier for me to see if my ideas will fit well together. This will also ... The literary texts I am going to write about are the following: John Donne s The Flea, Rochester s The Imperfect Enjoyment, The Maids Complaint, and Aphra Behn s The Disappointment. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the definition of dysfunction is, any abnormality or impairment of function. In my opinion, The Flea, The Imperfect Enjoyment, The Maids Complaint, and The Disappointment are four examples of sexual dysfunction in the texts we have read for this course. The exploration of the four texts is sexual dysfunction. Sexual dysfunction described in the ballad and poems are taken on as a humorous topic or can be read as not only a sexual dysfunction but some men views on women in society and their own anxieties... Both the articles considered for analysis projects the role of IT, from being the back bone of commerce to handling huge volumes of data, as being highly significant in the modern world. Even though both Nicholas Carr and Erik Brynjolfsson are in agreement to the omnipresence of IT, their perception of the future of IT differs vastly. Hence emphasis should be given to effectively managing and maintaining the existing technology rather than unnecessarily investing on more technology. It is always better to wait rather than rush to buy a new technology since a better version is always available before the newly purchased one is ready to use. Also it is very difficult to turn temporary technological advantages to enduring positioning ones. Hence more emphasis should be given in fixing the vulnerabilities rather than investing on a soon to be outdated technology. I agree with Carr that the companies in order to achieve a better return should manage risks and costs meticulously rather than resorting to seeking aggressive advantage. Also we have indeed spent much more than necessary on IT that the available technology is much advanced than what is required in the most cases. Brynjolfsson s four paradigms for innovation, i.e., measurement, experimentation, sharing and replication, in my opinion, put forth a best practice that can be adopted to achieve innovation. Snakes are Infected with Ophidian Paramyxovirus Virus Ophidian paramyxovirus is a virus that affects snakes, particularly in the family Viperidae; it compromises the immune system, which can lead to mortality through secondary bacterial infections. This negative sense, single stranded RNA virus infects the respiratory system and can be transmitted through feces, respiratory tract secretions, fomites, or vectors such as mites; as such, in captivity, good husbandry practices are critical to prevent transmission of this disease. Paramyxovirus is a viral pathogen. The natural host and origin for this virus is unknown, but it is possible that it is not a viperid (5). The first reported outbreak of paramyxovirus in snakes was in a group of Brazilian lancehead vipers in a serpentarium in Switzerland (1). These vipers were originally from Brazil, so it is likely that the origin of the virus is found in Brazil (5). The virus itself is an RNAvirus consisting of a filamentous particle enveloped in a spiked membrane, and can be between 140 and 321 nanometers in diameter. The virus replicates at an optimal temperature of 30В°C, so the disease is a particular concern in colder seasons (3). This virus is easily transmitted between individuals, particularly when they are housed close to each other. It is most often transmitted through respiratory secretions (2). It can also be transmitted through aerosols, such as sputum, and oral and cloacal secretions. The virus may persist in water and may be spread through feces. It can also be ... James, now confused, provides equal violence of Mickey s actions. A scenario like this can quickly turn sour even when both parties had no reason to start aggression. The reason for all this fuss is a mistake to understand communication. Although there may be other sources to conflicts, this is what lies in the most of said conflicts. Indeed, misinterpretation of plans or goals can occur when both parties fail to communicate with another. When these two groups are not conferencing, is no way to be clear on goals, plans, or positions; effects of this can also start rumors. An important claim of the authors was the lack of studies conducted about incorporating spirituality into community practice. Although they have made life easier by helping us quickly navigate the world and have helped us understand different cultures norms and values they can also turn sour when they undermine a culture by portraying them in a negative light. Negative stereotypes about African Americans are an example of this. Today s culture is filled with stereotypes about African Americans. Ice plant is used for producing refrigeration effect which uses the vapor compression cycle and by using this cycle we are doing performance and analysis of ice plant test rig using R404A Eco friendly Refrigerant. ... Setup of Ice plant test rig COMPRESSOR In this Ice Plant we use the reciprocating compressor. The compressor in which the vapour refrigerant is compressed by reciprocating motion of piston is known as reciprocating compressor. The purpose of compressor in the vapour compression cycle is to compress the low pressure dry gas from the evaporator and raise its pressure to that of condenser. There are two types of reciprocating compressor, Positive Displacement and Dynamic. In this plant we are using positive displacement hermetic compressor. Since the compression of the refrigerant requires some work to be done on it, therefore a compressor must be driven by some prime mover. The prime mover is an electric motor which converts input electrical energy to useful mechanical work. This work is transmitted as torque to the compressor through common shaft and coupling Table 2. • 43. NYAA Cheer Nationals NYAA Cheer Nationals in Las Vegas There I was, In the Colorado Airport with some of my teammates. We were sitting on the chairs waiting to aboard our second flight, that will later then take us to Las Vegas, Nevada, for our NYAA Cheerleading Nationals. The NYAA Cheer Nationals is the biggest competition of our season, and in order to go, you have to place top 3 at Regions and State, and get the bid to go. We were really excited to be there this year. The team went to Myrtle Beach last year for 2016 Nationals, but this was before I was on the team. At the 2016 Nationals, they hit 0, and had no deductions and still did not even place. So when we went into Nationals, we did not even think that we were gonna place top 5. The goal was to place top 3, and the dream was to get first. We had a lot of fun because a lot of us got there like about 3 days before the actual competition. So, we would go to the pool and or just walk around because there was a food court and bowling alley, so we would have fun. We would just run around and eat all day and have team bonding time. We had practice the day before our competition and we hit everything and was doing really good. The next morning we woke up bright and early to get everyone s hair and makeup ... Then we went up on the big mat, circled with my team holding hands, and they called 5th place, it wasn t us. So then we thought we were gonna get 4th, and they did not call us.. By then, we were all crying. We for sure we were gonna get 3rd after that, but they did not call us, so then we were all balling. Then they called second and it was us, we were all crying our eyes out. If the stunt would not have dropped we would have gotten first place, but that drives us to work harder. It was an amazing time that I will never forget, and it was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Relationship Between Belief And Knowledge Firstly, The Shining provides a pessimistic outlook of the dichotomous relationship between belief and knowledge in relation to deontology. As Malory Nye details, Robert Tonkinson observes a clear divide between religiosity and belief. What an external observer may classify as a belief may be commonsensical to a religious follower (Nye 2008, 122). As a result, religious belief can become an explanation in itself (Nye 2008, 117). In The Shining, Jack and Wendy represent opposing points of view on the issue. Furthermore, Wendy does not understand Jack s beliefs, but Jack considers them a form of knowledge; Wendy s inability to agree with him causes significant conflict between the two. Wendy merely sees Jack going mad because of what she thinks are his beliefs about the hotel. Wendy even outright proclaims her confusion when Jack asks her why she wants to go back to her room in the midst of a debate. However, to Jack, the occurrences in the hotel are facts. They predicate the actions which drive Jack to the violence he commits throughout the film, and are thus a basis for his deontology. Thus, the religious commonsensical knowledge Jack possesses works in tandem with his deontological views to make him a violent threat to everyone that does not share his abilities. This provides a clear display of the way The Shining negatively portrays the effect extreme religious values and deontology have on a human s psychology. Furthermore, Kubrick incorporates theories about ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Digue To Face In Life Essay Mrs Smith is 97 years old; she has two children, a daughter and a son. She lost her husband over 20 years ago so her children have always played a big part helping her with her care weather that was when she was at home or when she came to us at Eastbourne House. Her family is quite small so they are very close and they still spend a lot of time together making sure they come to visit at least 3 times a week. Mrs Smith suffers from depression and takes various medications to help with this but she is an overall happy lady. She enjoys spending time chatting with other service users or spending time in her room listening to her music. A couple of months ago Mrs Smith was told the sad news that her unwell daughter in law had sadly passed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One the day of the funeral I spent some time with Mrs Smith to make sure she was okay. I asked her if she would like to write a letter to her daughter in law which we could put in an envelope and set on fire, as if it was going up to heaven with her. She liked this idea but explained to me she would struggle to write it herself and asked me if I could sit with her and help her to think of the words to say and if I would write it out for her. I agreed to do this and I explained to Mrs Smith that this was a very personal thing she had asked me to do and reassured her that what was written in the letter would strictly stay between me and her and this comforted her. At 11am that day myself, Mrs Smith, her neighbour and our activities co ordinator went out into the back garden and had the service, to which Mrs Smith said a few words and we sprinkled the ashes of the letter in a corner of the garden which has a little seating area and explained to Mrs Smith if she was ever feeling down or sad she was always welcome to come back to this area in the garden to have a chat or just to sit and think. After the service Mrs Smith thanked me for my kindness and care on such a hard day to which I explained to her it was just natural to help her on a day like ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
