1. Isaac Newton was the first to systematically study color by passing sunlight through a prism and observing that it is composed of all the colors of the rainbow, known as the color spectrum.
2. Objects appear colored because of the wavelengths of light they reflect; their color depends on the light source. The sky appears blue because nitrogen and oxygen in the air scatter blue wavelengths of sunlight.
3. Sunsets appear red because red light wavelengths are less scattered by air molecules and travel farther, as the sun is lower in the sky and light takes a longer path through the atmosphere.
