Even from secondary school science, students have it drilled into them how to present for a scientific audience – intro, materials and methods, results, conclusion, references. Science communication requires a very different approach.
Presentations people will want to listen tosanna fowler
Scientist's slides are notoriously full of information - we think more means credible. This presentation outlines how to present a topic to both expert and non-expert audiences, and how to make sure your audience will remember at least some of what you say
Young researchers are under pressure to get results, write a thesis, and publish. They are often responsible for setting up models or experimental tools, and this is usually their main focus. In the intense day to day of experiments, they often lose site of the bigger picture of what their work will ultimate contribute to…communicating this is vital for successful funding applications.

I was invited to speak about science communication at a meeting of chemists, in Lion (France). Having short time to present such a huge field, I decided to condense it in a three elements formula (there is one element, you will notice, it has been introduced for the first time). This presentation has been changed (more text) hoping that it will be self-explaining. Glad if you download and thankful if you send me a notice!

In their new book How Google Works, Google Executive Chairman and ex-CEO Eric Schmidt and former SVP of Products Jonathan Rosenberg share the lessons they learned over the course of a decade running Google.
Covering topics including corporate culture, strategy, talent, decision-making, communication, innovation, and dealing with disruption, the authors illustrate management maxims with numerous insider anecdotes from Google’s history.
In an era when everything is speeding up, the best way for businesses to succeed is to attract smart-creative people and give them an environment where they can thrive at scale. How Google Works is a new book that explains how to do just that.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
