School Field Trip Checklist
1. Field Trip Checklist for
Students Ages 5 - 7
Follow this guide on what to pack for your next school field trip. The
items needed will vary based upon the itinerary and duration of your
trip. However, never leave school without these two essential things:
Patience and a sense of humor.
What to Pack:
Signed permission slips
o Make sure these permission slips include any allergy
information, and separate the slips into two stacks, one for
students who have allergies (with the allergies highlighted),
one for students without any allergies.
Day-of attendance sheet
o Get an accurate count of how many students are present
on the day-of the trip.
o Check this list against the permission slips, to confirm that
everyone present, in fact, has their parents’ or guardians’
permission to go.
Booking confirmation
o This should include the name and contact information of
the person you booked the trip through.
Form of payment
o If you haven’t collected money from the class and paid in-
full, make sure to bring cash or a check to pay the venue.
2. Emergency contact list
o Include the names and phone numbers of public service
departments, including the local fire department and poison
control, as well as the bus driver for the field trip, the school
nurse, and the teacher (or substitute) who is watching any
children not present on the field trip.
Field trip venue’s address and your school’s address
o Also, bring printed directions to and from the field trip
venue, in case the GPS or your cell phone isn’t working
when you need it.
An itinerary for the day
o Make sure each chaperone has their own copy.
Lunch
o If packing lunches on the bus, ensure that each child has a
lunch and nothing needs to be refrigerated.
A list of which students will be supervised by which
chaperones.
o Ideally, students would be split up into small groups,
following your school’s guidelines of leader to student
ratios.
Name tags for the students and chaperones
Water/snacks for the whole class
o Snacks should be individually-wrapped and should not
require refrigeration.
o Avoid any foods anyone in your class may be allergic to,
such as peanuts (check the permission slips).
Portable CD player (for the bus ride)
o Sing-along bus songs CD
