Catching The Long Tail With SaaS + Windows AzureRainer Stropek
I assembled this slide deck for a session for the Azure User Group in Brussels in Oct. 2012.
“Software as a Service” (SaaS) is a software distribution model that uses the Internet to deploy, maintain and run software solutions. Applications that are built to be used by thousands of customers have the need to be configurable and customizable to a high degree. This has a strong impact on the applications’ architectures. A single code base and a limited number of deployed instances have to serve a large number of customers (=tenants) although the users’ view on the system may be very different. In this session Rainer Stropek presents challenges that software architects are typically faced with when building such configurable multi-tenancy solutions. Based on this discussion Rainer will point out important consequences of multi-tenancy on operational costs and pricing models in SaaS solutions.

Social networking platforms can help businesses in three key ways:
1) They allow companies to build online communities around their products and services to increase sales, cut costs, and improve communications with customers and partners.
2) Companies can use social networking tools to host virtual events and meetings to engage with audiences while reducing costs compared to traditional in-person events.
3) Franchise companies can provide a unified social media presence for local franchisees through a centralized platform that maintains brand consistency while allowing regional autonomy.

Brands for Augmented Reality Dev EcosystemMark Silva
Presentation for the Augmented Reality Event May 8, 2012, a gathering of some of the leading minds and developers in the field. The audience was expecting PepsiCo's CMO and Chief Engagement Officer, Frank Cooper, who asked me to step in due to schedule conflicts. I presented three brands of radically different scale and fit in consumer's lives from Pepsi to Red Bull to La Chouffe beer. The core themes were:
1) that AR and other technologies make it mainstream when they cross over to culture
2) that SoLoMo is an advantaged experiential and consumer opportunity for AR development
3) that developers have to think about brands as more than a paycheck b/c brands are thinking about content, curation and extending consumer engagement over their marketing platforms in more sophisticated ways
4) that AR is still nascent with much room for creativity and the budget/rationale unlocks will be via metadata and path to purchase while the story over them must be entertainment/culture

Product Launch Presentation By Linda Johnsonlindajohnsonh
The document outlines the steps for launching a new product, including defining the product, setting objectives and budgets for marketing activities, creating a timeline, and measuring the success of the launch through activities like advertising, trade shows, and evaluating customer response. It provides details on planning specific elements of the launch like developing collateral, choosing a name, preparing demonstrations and displays, and considering international launches.
This document provides information about a web banner created for Salford City College's Eccles Centre for Creative Media Production. The banner uses animated text and captions to quickly advertise what it is promoting in a limited space. Techniques used include animation, visual effects, color rendering, graphics and movement. More advanced techniques like blur and distortion are kept to a minimum due to the short 10 second time frame and small advertising slot size. Technical specifications for the banner would depend on the requirements of the company commissioning it.
The document is a presentation for Azmone that includes sections about their multipurpose design, vision, points of service, team, products, how it works, missions, and portfolio. It uses graphics, charts, and images to showcase their services which include e-commerce, customer service, and digital marketing. The presentation promotes Azmone as a company that helps clients through collaborative administration of markets via plug-and-play networks.

Best If Used By: Labeling for Informed Choice, Less WasteBrandSquare
“When in doubt, throw it out?” The problem is, consumers in doubt throw out 30 to 40 percent of the food they buy, often because the 15 or more variations on product date codes create more confusion than clarity. The Grocery Manufacturers Association wants to change that. Their joint product code dating initiative clearly differentiates true perishables from foods that can be safely eaten beyond the date of optimal freshness.

Packaging real estate must not only be devoted to capturing the emotions of the consumer in the aisle, but also address new and competing demands. ‘Mobilizers,’ particularly millennials, demand that any and all information on products be immediately available through their devices. Yet, packaging is getting smaller to meet those same consumers’ demands for convenience.
Against this backdrop are the new drivers and demand for information, such as provenance, sustainability, and health and safety. How will brands accommodate these industry initiatives and regulatory requirements, while presenting salient and enduring touch points for consumers?

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:
Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.
