JICA has extensive experience assisting with scaling up rice development in Africa through projects in Tanzania and Egypt. In Tanzania, JICA helped increase rice production by developing irrigation infrastructure and training farmers in improved cultivation techniques. This was done by building training center capacity and utilizing existing government systems. In Egypt, JICA supported south-south cooperation by funding Egyptian experts to provide rice training to other African countries. Key lessons include aligning with government priorities, using functioning systems, developing local capacity, and achieving initial successful results to facilitate wider adoption.
