The saxophone is a woodwind instrument invented in the 1840s by Adolphe Sax to fill a gap between brass and woodwind sections of orchestras. It has a conical brass body and uses a single-reed mouthpiece like a clarinet. Sax first introduced the saxophone at the 1844 Paris Exhibition. There are several varieties of saxophone including soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone saxes that are used in genres like jazz, blues, classical, and contemporary music.
