Advice to my younger self - Reflecting on key
learnings and future opportunities for women in
the Public Sector
As Linda brings the Summit to a close, she will reflect
on the valuable lessons and advice received throughout
the conference. Participants will be asked to brainstorm
solutions to common challenges faced and prioritise the
factors that they believe will have the biggest impact on
their personal performance as a leader. This discussion
will explore:
• What advice would you give to your younger self?
• Key take-aways from the Summit
• Offer further insight into the challenges facing women in
the public sector
ABOUT THE EVENT
In Australia today, women’s workforce participation has never been
higher, however, despite this, women remain severely underrepresented
in senior management. Women make up only 26.1% of management
personnel and 17.3% of CEO. Diversity at the senior level has been
proven to add value to organisations, yet the majority of organisations are
failing to reap the benefits. The question must be asked: what is holding
women back from securing these executive roles?
In South Australia and the Northern Territory, women are advancing
towards leadership positions; however there is still a considerable amount
of progression that must be made for women to be equally represented in
the Public Sector.
The 2nd Annual Public Sector Women in Leadership South Australia
and Northern Territory Summit 2016 will provide advice for women
who wish to be successful in the Public Sector. In order for women to
attain a rewarding career in the public service, they must learn to put
their hands up for leadership roles, develop resilience and overcome
career challenges. This summit will provide a unique networking
experience, exposing delegates to senior level leaders who will address
the challenges that women face on their journey towards leadership.
Successful leaders will provide practical and proven strategies to aspiring
women in the Public Sector. They will tackle the challenges that they
faced head-on and present advice that they wish they knew during their
journey towards leadership.

Step Up to the Next Level - Understanding Yourself and Others for Effective Communication
At the core of effective leadership is the ability to engage hearts and minds, build successful and productive relationships, and harness the passion and
productivity of those you lead. Great leaders know the importance of each team member understanding their role and their contribution to the team,
and feeling valued for the part they play in helping the team succeed. These relationships are dynamic and ever-changing, and when they are respectful,
valuing and positive, great things can happen.
Whether you are working with an executive team, a group of emerging leaders, or developing the concept of leadership for the whole organisation, a
simple yet powerful way to improve communication, decision making and team performance is to start with self-awareness.
In this interactive and engaging workshop we will encourage reflection and group discussion to allow you to share experiences and develop ideas for
applying this learning in your workplace. We will explore:
What makes you tick?
• A proven system for people development that is easy to learn, understand, remember and apply
• Identifying your individual working style
• A deeper understanding of yourself and others
The power of perception
• How your perception influences your relationships with others in your work environment
• Learning how to adapt to others and connect more effectively by looking at fresh perspectives
Your leadership effectiveness - creating productive relationships
• Gaining a common language of understanding, building emotional intelligence and improving employee engagement, collaboration and retention
• Leveraging your strengths to improve your effectiveness, both personally and professionally
• Taking conscious action
Colourful insights in dealing with stress and building resilience
• Developing your emotional competence and assisting others to develop theirs
• Creating practical ways of building resilience for you and your team
• Recognising possible stress triggers in you and your team members and develop coping strategies for dealing with stress

This discussion will explore: • What advice would you give to your younger self? • Key take-aways from the Summit • Offer further insight into the challenges facing women in the public sector ABOUT THE EVENT In Australia today, women’s workforce participation has never been higher, however, despite this, women remain severely underrepresented in senior management. Women make up only 26.1% of management personnel and 17.3% of CEO. Diversity at the senior level has been proven to add value to organisations, yet the majority of organisations are failing to reap the benefits. The question must be asked: what is holding women back from securing these executive roles? In South Australia and the Northern Territory, women are advancing towards leadership positions; however there is still a considerable amount of progression that must be made for women to be equally represented in the Public Sector. The 2nd Annual Public Sector Women in Leadership South Australia and Northern Territory Summit 2016 will provide advice for women who wish to be successful in the Public Sector. In order for women to attain a rewarding career in the public service, they must learn to put their hands up for leadership roles, develop resilience and overcome career challenges. This summit will provide a unique networking experience, exposing delegates to senior level leaders who will address the challenges that women face on their journey towards leadership. Successful leaders will provide practical and proven strategies to aspiring women in the Public Sector.
