The Smart Provinces Summit was held on February 25-26, 2015 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The Smart Provinces Summit was successfully held on the 25th and the 26th of February 2015
to discuss the innovative future to be integrated to attain a comfortable, informative, connected
and secure lifestyle. During the opening ceremony the conference was inaugurated by H.E.
Eng. Ali Bin Saleh Al-Soma the Director General of e-Government Program (Yesser), Mr.
Zane Husain Sarraf Smart City Project Director Royal Commission at Yanbu, KSA and Mr.
Abdulrahman A. Al-Friah General Manager - CERT-SA (CITC).
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has already stepped into the future of innovative technology
where the respective leaders and infrastructure developers are transforming Smart Economic
Cities into Kingdom wide sustainable Smart Provinces of the future. Smart cities are the next
stage in the process of urbanization as there is a growing population out of which more than
50% of the country’s population are living in cities.
A city can be considered ‘smart’ when there are investments, participatory action, engagement
in areas such as social economic development, Transport modernization, implementation in
integration of modern (ICT) communication for secure infrastructure, sustainable economic
development, wise management of natural resources, introduction of smart grids metering
systems to reduce energy losses and all of this to provide a well-connected high quality of life.
For sustainable prosperity, the systems need to be managed optimally. The systems need to
become smarter, secure, more efficient and environmentally friendly, on various intelligence
projects and visions of the future. We study the current market to identify key trends and issues
