SAVE THE CHILDREN ~ Save the Children is an EGLANTYNE international relief and development organization. ~ It first began in the United Kingdom in 1919 and was founded by Dorothy Buxton and Eglantyne Jebb. DOROTHY ~ The sisters decided that more practical help was needed; they formed the Fight Famine Council.

SAVING THE CHILDREN TODAY! ~ Works are based around the rights of children and listed in the United Nations Conventions. ~ Also try to work on a wider basis; aiming to achieve lasting changes in children’s rights. ~ Run a variety of programs throughout the world to: improve the health of mothers & children, help in breastfeeding, and HIV/AIDS prevention and care.

CHILD EDUCATION ~ Save the Children’s goal is to achieve universal primary education by 2015. ~ Focus on: early childhood care and development of basic primary and secondary education. ~ Save the Children Foundation eliminates barriers to education so that every girl and boy has the chance to go to school. ~ They focus their efforts on the most at risk children.

CHILD HEALTH & NUTRITION ~ Save the Children works to improve the health and nutrition of children worldwide. ~ Address the major causes of illness and malnutrition. ~ They also train community health workers to identify and treat the biggest killers of children. ~ Operate and support programs for infants and young child breast feeding & parent-child bonding.

What kind of words can you use to describe the images you see and the emotions that can be portrayed through these images?”(Jot down a few words or descriptions on slide, presented by audience) **Talk about how each point or word is evident and then ask class if anyone ever feels remorse or compassion when they see images like this on the television during commercial breaks or do they just change the channel?“Why is that for some of us, we always change the channel? It is easy to say that when we see these commercials we often feel guilty about our place in life and the unfortunate place in life that those children endure. It is easy for me to say that I used to be one of those individuals.”(Explain how you then took the time to sit down and watch those commercials…” I took the first step of watching those commercials regarding this issue. While I was watching these commercials, I really made myself focus on the gripping stories of these children and tried to understand their idea of life. One thing that I did notice while watching a series of commercials based on this issue, was that majority of the commercials showed a despairing perspective of the tragedy that these children go through on a daily basis. However, I happened to notice that a few commercials illustrated these children as living their lives happily, even though it was clear that they were struggling to live. This observation was definitely an empowering experience, and from the moment I witnessed the smiles on those children’s face, my perspective on life had changed. I thought that my next step would be to research upon this issue and go from there, but little did I know that God had something else in mind for me. A few weeks later, a woman came to my door asking if I wanted to sponsor a child in Brazil because he and his family were struggling with poverty.) ****
