2. Rachel s Monologue
It was summer time, and twilight. We were sitting on the porch of the farm house,
on the summit of the hill, and Aunt Rachel was sitting respectfully below our level,
on the steps, for she was our servant, and colored. She was of mighty frame and
stature; she was sixty years old, but her eye was undimmed and her strength
unabated. She was a cheerful, hearty soul, and it was no more trouble for her to
laugh than it is for a bird to sing. She was under fire, now, as usual when the day
was done. That is to say, she was being chaffed without mercy, and was enjoying it.
She would let off peal after peal of laughter, and then sit with her face in her hands
and shake with throes of enjoyment which she could no longer get breath enough to

4. Wrongful Dismissal And Unfair Dismissal
Introduction
The statutory claim for unfair dismissal recognises that the common law cannot give
adequate protection to the employees through the contract of employment, in that
wrongful dismissal claim depends upon a breach of contract of the employment,
usually in the form of inadequate notice being given by the employer. Many
dismissals can be considered unfair that do not amount to the breach of the contract,
for the wrongful dismissal claims look not to intention, motive, or the effect on an
employee of a termination of the relationship nor to the procedural protections, but
merely to the form of in which that relationship has been brought to the end. This
paper will compare and contrast the different area between wrongful dismissal and
unfair dismissal.
Wrongful dismissal
Wrongful dismissal is the term used at common law to denote the situation in which
an employee is dismissed by an employer in breach of contract. It occurs most
commonly in summery dismissal, namely, without any notice whatsoever. This is
justifiable in the case of Laws v London Chronicle (indicator Newspapers) Ltd (1959),
stating that ...Whether the conduct complained of is such as to show the servant to
have disregarded the essential conditions of the contract of service...
What if the employer dismissed an employee without following some procedures
proscribed by the contract? The case of Gunton v Richmond upon Thames London
Borough Council (1980) provided an answer on this matter, if the contract
5. As the twenty year anniversary of the genocide in Rwanda...
As the twenty year anniversary of the genocide in Rwanda arrives, it is important to
recognize the lack of action on the part of the international community, and to look
toward a future where people have learned from the mistakes of the past. In some
ways, each individual could ask themselves whether, if they saw a murder taking
place, they would intervene. Would it depend on whether they had a weapon big
enough, and whether they felt they knew the person being victimized? The Rwandan
genocidereported almost 100000 brutal killings of a community within a country and
it shocked the world. The genocide resulted in almost one million causalities within
the space of 100 days which means 10000 killings a day. The most tragic aspect of the

In the first days of April 1994, the radio broadcast the names and addresses of Tutsi
and moderate Hutu politicians on the primary death list. Its infamous message was
simple: The grave is only half full; who will help us fill it? Militiamen went to
work often observing normal office hours with a machete in one hand and transistor
radio in the other (Peterson 256) The authority of the Hutu government to call for
ethnic cleansing was unquestionable in the minds of the Hutus who carried out the
murders, and committing genocide was considered part of 5their moral imperative
as Hutus. As was demonstrated in the book by Scott Peterson, Me Against My
Brother, in the country of Somalia, this sort of clan warfare had historically been
limited by the tools of warfare that were available to the people. Without motorized
vehicles and guns, they were limited to single combat with spears and knives, and
couldn t cover large amounts of territory in short amounts of time in order to engage
with the enemy. Peace existed mainly due to a lack of resources for making war, as
exercising power and authority in brutal and violent terms was otherwise respected
and revered in Somali culture. The same was true in Sudan, evidenced by the ethnic
conflicts within the ranks of the southern rebels at various points in their fighting
with the north. Peterson writes, The 1991 Bor Massacre revived an antagonism that,
for many southerners,

When the case was finally to be decided before the bench, the new Lord gave a
blisteringly powerful closing argument when it looked to all that the case was lost.
They should have known better. Monboddo s five hour speech turned the tide for
Douglas as well as gaining for his Lordship a brilliant legal reputation.
His personal life was not without its personal tragedy though. He married beautiful,
accomplished Grace Farquharson. They had a son and two daughters but sadly, Grace
died giving birth to child number three. Arthur, his son, also died in childhood.
As he grew older he indulged his passion for writing and in 1773, published a massive
tome, Of the Origin and Progress of Man and Language , a study of evolution
predating Darwinian theory. Remarking on the humanoid features of the orang utang,
then a little known primate, Monboddo daringly suggested that the ape might be
related to humans. Anticipating Charles Darwin by generations, this offhand
observation made him a laughing stock. Unsurprisingly this and other offbeat ideas
afforded endless matter for jest by the wags of the day although nowadays they are
understood to be related to the theory of evolution. In Boswell: Journal of a Tour to
the Hebrides, Samuel Johnson says, We talked of the Ouran Outan and of Lord
Monboddo s thinking that he might be taught to speak. Dr. Johnson treated this with
ridicule and said, ..... it is as possible that the Ouran Outang does not speak, as that

9. Comparing Formula 1 And NASCAR
There are several differences between IndyCar fans and fans of other motor sports.
There are two main competitors within motor sports that have a large and loyal fan
base: Formula 1 and NASCAR. Formula 1 is an open wheel motor sport that races
exclusively on open roads. With respect to IndyCar, Formula 1 has more of a
global appearance and appeal. Formula 1 hosts races in countries such as Australia,
Brazil, and Japan, while IndyCar has most of its races held in China, Canada, and
the United States. Formula 1 is designed to attract more than just the western half of

10. The Value Of Philosophy By Bertrand Russell
The Value of Philosophy In Bertrand Russell s article The Value of Philosophy in
his The Problems of Philosophy, he may as well be looking at the problems of his
argument. Russell does reach his purpose and is able to make valid conclusions
that are well supported for why and how philosophy is valuable, but his credibility
can be called into question. He makes cases that allow for weaknesses and sets
limitations on what he says. It is limitations he puts on how he defines philosophy
and the weakness of altering the capabilities of philosophy that debilitates Russell s
argument. The purpose Russell had for writing this article is to justify the value that
he places on philosophy, and through this convince others to see the same. If he can
succeed in this, he is spreading the good and influence of philosophy for others than
students of philosophy (Russell). Russell comes to many conclusions, all being the
support for a larger, overarching conclusion. This bigger picture conclusion is that the
value of philosophy is to be sought largely in its very uncertainty (Russell) , namely
the contemplation and effects of it. These smaller supporting conclusions are that
philosophy is uncertainty, the contemplation of objects takes the certainty away from
them, and the higher thinking of uncertainty has enlarging effects to the self. To see
how these come to hold up a larger conclusion, their support must first be found.
Russell s conclusion that philosophy s value is in its

For forty years after India s liberation from British rule in 1947, the Indian market
was stifled by government regulations that prohibited foreign owned operations. The
only way to import foreign goods or technology was to apply and obtain a special
permit from the government. This system was known as the license raj1. The
difficulty of getting these licenses repressed the automobilesector and component
imports, creating a low volume high cost auto industry that was technologically
dated, inefficient, and unprofitable. In the early 1980 s, The Indian government

15. Lizard Adaptations
Josiah
Lizards
The lizard is a fascinating creature. Lizards vary in size, shape, ability, dietary
needs, habitat, and mating. For instance, the Komodo dragon is bigger than a
gecko, needs more food to eat, and eats a different source of food. The iguana will
live near the water, while a ruin lizard will live in grassy fields, parks, or gardens.
Nonetheless all these animals are still lizards. It is intriguing to learn about the
habitats, predators, and characteristics of lizards.
Lizards have different habitats some choose sunny places to put their homes, while
others will live in shady spots. Then there are the lizards that live in the dessert

Most lizards that live in the shade will have smooth and soft skin. This will help the
lizard crawl through tight spots. If the lizard is a chameleon then it will have a
specialized tail and feet. Their tail is a prehensile tail, this means that they can use
their tail to curl around a branch; their feet are also special because they can use
them to grip tightly to a branch. Chameleons live in trees, but they do not have soft
skin; they have hard skin and horns for protection, along with their ability to
camouflage (Bishop, 22, 26).
The lizard is not friends with everybody. There are animals that when they see a
lizard they do not see the cute or cool animal that we see; they see a snack, or
dinner depending on the animal. These animals consist of birds, snakes, or even
other lizards (Knopf, 487 580). When a lizard notices a snake slithering through the
ground, it most likely will not try to fight it. Now that is depending on the size of
the snake and the lizard. Obviously, if the lizard is a lot bigger than the snake then
it will fight, or the snake will just turn away. If the snake is bigger than the lizard,
then most likely the lizard will dash away or climb up a tree. Some lizards will
actually stand still, so that way they are not noticed by the snake. (Bishop,

When Carlos Ghosn becoming the new CEO, the managers and employees was not
happy about it because they don t know what is his intentions. He whom was known

Lebanese heritage and the difference in culture way of approaching the problems are
really different from the people of Japan. Everyone knows that the Japanese
managementculture is the masculine(manly) type with large power distance and that
the Japanese peopleare really obedient towards the higher ups (Hofstede). Carlos

where he managed to improve the cost efficiencies and because of his good
management record, he was being headhunted to become the CEO of Nissan. In a
country like Japan, one usually assume that the new CEO should be someone who
knows the local culture and customs of Japan but in this case however Carlos was
probably aware of the fact that regardless of his shortage of knowledge about the
culture itself, he had an advantage for having worked on four different countries with
different cultures and was able to overcome the cultural differences.
Back in 1991, Nissan was capable of producing good quality cars but the company

20. Positive Effects Of To Kill A Mockingbird
To Kill a Mockingbird is a classic novel that has multiple benefits when taught in a
high school classroom. Some would disagree with this statement because of the
immaturity level of the students, the profanity and violence, and other controversial
topics. Despite its adult themes, To Kill a Mockingbird is an amazing novelthat
should be assigned to high schoolstudents because it provides an awareness of the
effects of prejudice and segregation, along with positive moral values that have the
ability to teach students to invent a moral code of their own. In order to contradict
these other thoughts, I will provide research on the negativity of the novel through
examples and proven effects, but will first provide research on the proven positive
effects.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This includes the realization that the novel was published in 1960, and took place
in the 1930s, also known as the time of The Great Depression. This infers the novel

most of us are more accepting of promoting equality for all. In the novel one needs
to understand the historical context, or what it meant to them. Is it possible they did
not do what they did out of hatred, but rather fear of loss of power and lack of
knowledge? According to Dr. William Thompson, psychologist, those reasons as a
whole could have possibly been how people in this era thought about prejudice and
segregation. During the B.C.E. era, events such as slavery were not practiced out of
prejudice, but rather led to it. If one understands that during history there was a
different mindset than there is today, then one could teach in a classroom that the
novel does not intend to harm students, but rather teach them a historical event, how
it led to prejudice and segregation, and how mindsets have changed

Date Rape
Every two minutes, somewhere in the world, someone is sexually assaulted. Of these
approximately 248,000 victims, about 87,000 were victims of completed rape, and
70,000 were victims of sexual assault. Up to 4,315 pregnancies may have resulted
from these attacks. Calculations based on the (National Crime Victimization Survey).
Rape is often misunderstood. For one reason rapist are usually portrayed as a
stranger, his motivation is entirely sexual, and the victim is always a young and sexy

Date rape may involve sex that leaves the victim feeling confused and traumatized.
The victims are usually confused because they are still thinking about how they
knew the assailant from work, mutual friends, or at school. The issue of sexual
consent is a big problem of date rape. Any type of sex forced on a date or person who
has not consented is rape. In our society people think that since you re in a
relationship you could never refuse sexual encounters. Intimate relationships are
one of the main reasons date rape is not recognized as a serious issue. Sexual
consent by force is just wrong and shouldn t be used. People should just accept the
word no and be done with it. The fact is that they still go through great extents to
have sex with a person even like blackmail. Males use their masculine strength to
over power their victims by forcing there bodies down and holding there arms.
Many young boys feel that as long as they can get away with it, they will continue
to force sexual intercourse on a female. Now a day s drugs have been used to

22. Global Information Systems ( Gis )
Global Information Systems In this critical essay, I have tried to identify the major
processes of designing, developing, and implementing Global Information Systems
(GIS). I have also provided the discussion of how the level of Global Information
Infrastructures (GII) affects the design, development, and implementationof GIS, and
how these processes differ from those in a domestic context. Finally, I have also
explained how firms should employ appropriate GII to support these processes.
Design, Develop and Implement Global Information Systems
Implementing the GIS is a huge challenge for many multi national organizations.
There are numerous reasons for which a GIS is required, for example, to provide the
base IT support in each and every country, where the business units of the
organization are located. A properly designed, developed, and implemented GIS helps
exchanging information globally, and has also been flexible enough to provide local
features and functionalities (Markus, 2007).
An iterative approach is recommended at each phase of design, development, and
implementation of a GIS. Throughout the system development process a close
connection between the end users, the system analysts, and the technical team
becomes a high priority. The end users should be allowed to select, and prioritize the
most important requirements. The system analysts should be able to understand and
translate the non technical language of end users to the language understandable by

25. A Farewell To Arms Henry A Hero
Appearances Can Be Deceiving: The Hero in A Farewell To Arms
Throughout literature, heroes are faced with challenges they have to overcome
through courageous acts. The character of a hero has to follow certain ethical codes
created by the society which do not leave any space for the hero to break them.
Superficially, the main character in A Farewell To Arms
, Frederic Henry, appears to
be a traditional hero; however, if we track the character s actions closely, we can
conclude that he is just the opposite of one, or an anti hero. Henry is portrayed by the
author as a self serving individual whose actions lead him to making quite unorthodox
decisions which further reinstate him as an anti hero.
Traditionally, in novels, heroes believe that they should fight for justice or a higher
purpose at the risk of their life. Nonetheless, Frederic Henry, or rather the anti hero,
does the exact opposite as he fights for self preservation instead of a higher purpose,
especially through self inflicting wounds and running away. This pattern can be

knowing that working hard pays off: these are all fundamental beliefs tied to the
American Dream. As newer generations are increasingly finding the dream to be
unrealistic, people are beginning to abandon the concept; however it is still a very
present ideology. While many believe the American Dream is a lively goal that
everyone strives to achieve, it is actually a dying illusion that is unattainable for all

The purpose of the American dream is not to promise success as a reward for hard
work; conversely, it is the idea that individuals should be able to achieve success
despite their socioeconomic status. This belief is intended to inspire and create
equality. Although the American Dream sounds optimistic in concept, it further
propagates inequality in practice.
The American Dream is not a function of ability and achievement, but a dying
illusion. America is not truly the land of the free, but an ignorant classist society.
Gregory Clark, an economics professor at the University of California, Davis, stated
that America has no higher rate of social mobility than medieval England or pre
industrial Sweden ... That s the most difficult part of talking about social mobility it s
shattering people s dreams (qtd. in Evans). The United States has an incredibly
outdated economic system that does not allow disadvantaged citizens opportunities
regardless of how hard they work. People get stuck in their social status and are not
able to stray out of it, which affects their further generations. Additionally, immigrants
coming to America in hopes of prosperity are likely to have even less luck than
immigrants of the pass and widen the gap of social inequality. Clark continues to
state, The truth is that the American Dream was always an illusion. Blindly pursuing

28. Integrative Approach For Counseling And Its Effects On...
Integrative Approach to Counseling
Key Concepts
The central idea in an integrative approach to counseling is one of a patient s ability
to affect their life through the choices they make. William Glasser suggests most
people s unhappiness stems from the lack of meaningful relationships, and most
relationships are either successful or a disaster based on the choices we make
(Corey, 2013). Patients are able to positively or negatively impact their mental well
being by making choices that deepen their interpersonal relationships.
Expanding on Glasser s ideas, existentialism and the choices it offers, gives an
individual the opportunity to experience freedom. They are no longer tied to a
deterministic view of life, but are instead given license to create the life they wish to
have, unencumbered by the weight of societal, cultural, or familial expectations
(Corey, 2013).
Both choice theory and existentialism closely mirror ideas taught in Protestant
Christianity: people are free to make choices about their behavior and lifestyle, and
all choices have an outcome. That outcome can be positive (salvation), or negative
(damnation). If one believes the rules as explained in the Bible, the outcome of one s
life rests in their choices.
Counselor s role
In most cases, the counselor will best serve their client by taking on a not knowing
role in the relationship, allowing the client to become the expert in their own lives
(Corey, 2013).

29. Essay about Geoffrey of Monmouth s Life of Merlin
Geoffrey of Monmouth s Life of Merlin
Geoffrey of Monmouth s Life of Merlin is a text that makes its readers struggle
with finding criteria for madness. What does it even mean to be mad? Madness
seems to define a person only when he or she does something to stray from the
normality of any given group of people. Breaking societal norms often leaves
people open to criticism and suspicion. In order to be sane and mentally healthy,
one has to abide by all explicit and implicit rules of society. Life of Merlin is about
a man that abandons feudal society, and all of its rules, in hopes of finding a better
place to live. A better place to live, for him, is one that is purely good. Violent and
deceitful people are ultimately the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This thought leaves him to blame the humans responsible for it. Merlin claims that
whole kingdoms feared the same men that died. Therefore, people within the
kingdom are responsible for such slaughter, not fate alone. Fear was the driving force
that ultimately led to violence. It is on this logical basis that Merlin fears humanity. If
fear alone can drive humans to kill other humans, then Merlin fears for his life and
the life of others. Logical considerations, rather than mad ideas, compel Merlin to
abandon feudal society. If one sees Merlin as sane and logical, then one might even
begin to see the people of the kingdom as mad. This leaves the reader with the
possibility that the society surrounding Merlin is mad, not Merlin himself.
Besides Merlin s logic for leaving, for fear of a violently mad society, the reader can
also see how the deceptive nature of humans in feudal society is reasonable
enough for leaving. Merlin s summary of a doorman s life gives the reader a better
explanation of how much his extra worldly perception haunts him. Merlin
explains, The doorman in front of the gates was sitting in shabby clothes and was
begging passers by to give him money or buying clothes. Yet all the time he was
secretly rich, for he had a secret hoard of coins under him (79). Most people would
walk by the doorman and believe him to be a true poor person. Merlin, however, has

Then with a pipet, place slowly with hydrochloric acid, 10 ml, into the sodium
hydrogen carbonate until the bubbles stop. Then with the product, heat until it
seems as if all the water in the dish is evaporated. Originally the product was
supposed to be 2.09g of hydrochloric acid, however there was a miscalculation of
the mass of the sodium hydrogen carbonate, and that mass turned out to be 3.07g.
The final mass for the product was supposed to be 2.14g as a mass of the product.
After all the procedures were completed, the mass that was received from the lab
calculations was 2.45g. This was a 114.55 percent error to the lab. The large error
could have lead to many different things. One of the things that the error could
have been caused was miss calculating the mass. While measuring the sodium
hydrogen carbonate, the mass of the evaporating dish mass, 46.50g, had altered
when it was zeroed and put the 3.00g of the sodium hydrogen carbonate. Then it
was massed again together and it was 49.57g. Another possible way that the mass
was altered the way it was, it that all the water wasn t evaporated. There was also a
little splatter outside the dish. That helped lessening the mass that was already too
big. Finally an important error that happened was not letting the evaporating dish
cool after it was heated. Those are some ways that the lab error could
32. The Amendment Of The United States Constitution
use of force is always a heavily debated topic for law enforcement. Every action an
officer takes during an altercation when use of force is present, will be reviewed by
chief s, lieutenant s captain s etc. With the recent rise in officer involved shootings,
the demand for less lethal force measures has begun to rise. The eighth amendment of
the United States Constitution was made for protection against cruel and unusual
punishment; if an officer uses lethal force in an altercation they have deprived that
person of their rights. Also the fourteenth amendment gives us the right to due
process; lethal force deprives us of that right. There is a saying that has come to light
recently that law enforcement officers are the judge the jury and the executioner.
Officers have become heavily criticized for using lethal force in altercations that less
lethal could have possibly been used. With officer involved shooting on the rise
society wants us to re examine other alternatives. There will be times that an officer
must use their duty weapon, but many of the recent shootings could have been
avoided with the use of less lethal tools. Lethal force often affects the department s
image negatively and brings un wanted media attention; it can be hard to rebuild the
trust with the community. When officers deploy less lethal tactics it is often
overlooked by any media attention and any civil issues. In an effort to help
department s combat un wanted lethal encounters, this research will
33. Themes Of Seven Samurai
In the classic film Seven Samurai, Akira Kurosawa, one of Japan s most famous and
influential directors, delves into the world of samurai during the Sengoku period.
Kurosawa has inspired many filmmakers, and the themes and story of Seven
Samurai can be seen mirrored in films. In the film, Kurosawa paid special detail to
small details important to Japan s history and culture, both past and present.
Seven Samurai follows the struggles of a small village of farmers plagued by seasonal
raids and looting by rogue bandits. To save their dying way of life and home, an
envoy of three farmers seeks the aid of samurai, offering rice in exchange for the
services of samurai. At first unsuccessful in wooing any samurai to their cause, the
call to arms is eventually answered by six samurai and the orphaned son of a farmer
turned wannabe samurai. Rather than chase the bandits away from the village, the
samurai teach the farmers to defend themselves and lead the farmers into battle. Once
the village is won and the farmers emerge victorious, the surviving samurai leave the
village in the hands of the farmers once again.
The film appears to take place during the 16th century Sengoku period, a time of
bloody warfare and disunity in the evolution of Japan s culture and history. Samurai,
being a hereditary social class, would be loyal retainers to their daimyo, but the
constant inflow of masterless samurai suggests the likelihood of their daimyo having
died in one of the many battles, which has

The availability of food due to climate controversy is also becoming an increasing
cause of morality. Another example is the Loggerhead sea turtlewhich is another
animal that is highly being threatened by the sea level rise because the sea levels
impact the sea turtles nesting beach. Due to the melting of ice caps and rising sea
levels, Northern America beaches are beginning to vanish. Therefore, warmer
ocean temperatures are also likely to impact food resources for sea turtles in a
negative approach, and essentially all marine species. A highly essential and
important food for the sea turtles is the coral reef which is in very poor conditions
in the U.S territory. As a result of rising temperatures, coral reefs are in pain and
facing hardships from a bleaching effect that is known to kill off portions of the reef.
In the article, Assessing the Environmental Impact of Beach Nourishment by Charles
H. Peterson, he discusses that such beach nourishment can bury shallow reefs and
degrade other beach habitats. The effects of the sea turtles such as the Loggerhead
sea turtles are being endangered, development along ocean shorelines entails
substantial risk of property loss, in recognition of the vulnerability of coastal
development to shoreline erosion and flooding, and in response to the value of fish
and wildlife habitat (Peterson). The habitats of the animals are as vulnerable as ever
because of the environment where they live. Beaches and

History is often said to be what has happened in the past, and a historian s job is to
bring that information back, without distorting it. This undistorted passing of
history is often times may not always be achieved, and the story of the death of
Silas Deane is a great example of that The formerly known story was one of rags to
riches, and back to rags. He was born to a humble blacksmith, who had high
aspirations for his son, and sent him off to Yale, where he studied law. He opened
his own practice and was very successful. Not satisfied, he entered into the world of
politics, working his way up the ladder, eventually becoming a delegate to the first
and second Continental Congresses, drawing the attention of leaders. He was then
sent to France as the American representative of the colonies, later joined by
Benjamin Franklin and Arthur Lee. He was described as ambitious and someone to
be watched, even accused of using his position in government for personal profit.
Further controversy forced him out of France, America, and England, ending up in
Flanders. He lived there until the controversy died down some and then moved to
England, where he lived in obscurity, resorting to drinking, and living in the house of
a prostitute. His one loyal friend, Edward Bancroft, provided financial support for
him. When he thought the coast was clear to move back, he set sail for America

36. What Is The Contribution Of The Functionalist, Conflict...
Sociology is the study of society, it uses its methods in systematic way, and are
usually empirical. Since it is the study of scientific society, human social life, more
than aggregate of individuals. In order to understand any issue related to sociology
such as race, gender, caste, culture and marriage etc. We need to understand its three
main perspectives, functionalist perspective, conflict theory and symbolic
interactionism. Functionalist Perspective is all about progress in the society through
harmony, because society has a system which is interconnected Therefore, we need to
maintain a state of balance and social equilibrium for the whole Herbert Spencer,
Emile Durkheim, Talcott Parsons and Robert Merton have largely contributed to
functionalism. Conflict Theory views life as competition, distribution of limited
resources, power. Its main criteria is to maintain social order by dominance and
power instead of harmony. Karl Marx is the one to put forward the conflict theory.
Unlike conflict theory and functionalist perspective, symbolic interactionism neither
deals with harmony in the society nor with the society with dominance or power. In
fact it deals with the interaction that includes gestural communication. Max Weber
contributed for the symbolic interactionism. Sociologywas first coined in 1780 in
France. Then, it was again independently defined by the one of the founding fathers
of sociology, Auguste Comte. Comte was successful in bringing scientific

It is not uncommon to see instances of time travel in science fiction films or TV
shows. However, the popularity of this theme in fictional stories does not construe a
general acceptance in the scientific community that it is feasible. In The Case of
Time Travel, Phil Dowe seeks to provide a rebuttal to William Grey s Troubles With
TimeTravel, an article written to debunk the possibility of time travel. Dowe strives
to repudiate what he calls issues against time travel propounded by Grey. In
particular, in Troubles With Time Travel, Grey has raised four issues, namely no
destinations, double occupation, time paradox, and possibility restriction;
nevertheless, according to Dowe, what Grey terms as observable objections to time
travel hypothesis can be explained or challenged by other ideas.
The Grey Dowe Debate
Firstly, the no destinations objection, based on the Heracliten understanding of time,
opines that there is no future to travel to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Grey s claim that what one can do, whether in the past or future, is limited to a
fixed set of facts is considered a fallacy because theoretically time travel imposes no
unusual restrictions (Dowe 448). The idea of possibility of restrictions is not well
explained, but Dowe discredits an equally baffling analogy that people are never able
to do those things they would ordinarily do.
All in all, the core arguments by William Grey, no destinations, double occupation,
time paradox, and possibility restriction, which seek to prove that time travel is
impossible, have rebuttals. However, in a bid to drum up support for his point of
view, Dowe has offered his rejoinder without in depth explanations as to why Grey s
ideas are preposterous. The outcome is the article that leaves a lot in abeyance,
further muddling the discourse on time

Another exception to the search warrant requirement is the inventory search after

within a criminal defendant s personal property. An inventory search must be
conducted pursuant to standard police procedures and cannot be used as a pretext to
discover for incriminating evidence. And an inventory search is valid only when
law enforcement have lawful custody of property. In that regard, federal law
prescribes that the personal effects of an arrestee may be impounded at the time of
arrest for safety or to remove nuisances.

pellet formed the third supernatant (S3). After obtaining P1, P2, P3, and S3, the
goal of part 2 of experiment 1 was to figure out which cell fraction has the highest
amount of mitochondria. DCIP, which is an electron acceptor, was added to P1,
P2, P3, and S3 to test for SDH, a biochemical marker for the presence of functional
mitochondria (McAllister Leicht p.71). DCIP changed from blue to colorless when
electrons are being reduced, indicating a high SDH activity level and a large
presence of mitochondria. The amount of color change is proportional to the amount
of SDH enzyme and the amount of mitochondria in a cell fraction (McAllister Leicht
p.71). Blank cuvettes containing assay buffer, sodium azide, and a

41. Effectiveness Of The Treatment Before And After The...
To analyze the effectiveness of the treatment before and after the surgical
revascularization intervention procedures in PAD patients who may have
microvascular dysfunction, we studied the change in oxygen concentration at the
walls of capillaries.
Oxygen transfer in a vascular network that is essential for the tissue metabolism
takes place at the level of microvasculature and capillaries through convection and
diffusion. Oxygen delivery or convective flow of oxygen to the capillaries and
oxygen extraction or diffusive transport of oxygen from hemoglobin (Hb) to tissue
cells are the two limiting factors associated with oxygen transfer in a vascular
network (Pittman, 2000).
In order to quantify the transfer rate of oxygen from capillaries to the surrounding
tissues, micro circulation in the vascular network was modeled in a virtual simulation
software using the chemical reaction module. Two mechanisms associated with the
oxygen transfer; oxygen from the blood is transferred to the inner wall through
convection and from inner capillary wall to the surrounding tissue via diffusion
phenomena, are shown in Figure 1.
Microcirculation includes both delivery and extraction that is governed by the
equation from Fick s Principle (conservation of mass).

Vintage Hairstyling
It is always said that old is gold and this saying can be rightly proved by vintage
hairstyling, which is so much in demand now days. Vintage hairstyles are the
hairstyles from 190 s era. The hairstyles in those years were so smart and subtle that
women and men from all across the world are opting for them instead of new
hairstyles of current era. Vintage type hairstyles include styling your hair in a way that
they are not messy at all. Any vintage style that you would see has hair set properly
and no frizz or loose hair is there.
Vintage hairstyling is not that easy and one needs to have a professional hairstylist to
achieve any vintage hairstyle. There are many styles that you can go for and create a
different look altogether.

Orwell
Power through language Languages from different countries and the way words
are said can express many different forms of power among many different people.
In the novel Animal Farm by George Orwell pigs, that represents leaders, they
have many different ways of exerting power and keeping the other farm animals
faithful and working. Language can be used to exert power through many
different ways of showing how bad something is or by simply raising pitch. The
most effective way that language is used for power is by scaring people that
something horrible will happen if they don t listen to their leader making them fear

It is summed up in a single word Man. (28) Throughout his speech he keeps going

45. Identifying An Organism With A Biological Lens Essay
Spectrophotometrically Identifying Alfalfa Sprouts Chloroplasts and Lysosomes
Isolated in a Sucrose Gradient
Introduction: Conceptualizing an organism with a biological lens involves
understanding the organism s components and how their individual functions
characterize the overarching entity. For a body, this means understanding organs and
tissues. For a cell, this means classifying its organelles and discerning their functions.
Analysis of subcellular components has become a major focus in biochemical
studies, and it relies heavily on the fractionation of organelles. Fractioning and
isolating organelles essentially enables a scientist to elucidate organelle functions,
which, as mentioned before, adds definition to the all encompassing image of a cell.
Modern studies on this topic tend to target organelles with somewhat ambiguous
functions, like anammoxosomes and melanosomes. By isolating these subcellular
components and analyzing them, biologists have unearthed ammoxosomes role in
filling a large part of the Earth s atmosphere with nitrogen gas (Neumann et. al, 2014).
In addition to this, other biological organizations have managed to sequester intact
melanosomes from cells, separating them from other items of similar densities, and
study the activity of V Type ATPase proteins while they are in a subcellular
membrane (Pelkonen et. al, 2016). The general procedure for executing an
experiment like these involves lysing cells, centrifuging their components, and
separating

is owning a business, being a supervisor, or being an executive, at some point being
in charge seems like the place to be. However, it takes a lot to be a leader and not
everyone is cut out for the leadership role. A major leadership role that most
organizations have is a Chief Executive Officer (CEO). CEOs are considered the
head of a corporation and are responsible for providing direction for the company
and making certain that goals are met. CEOs can work at a wide variety of
businesses, from small businesses to corporations with thousands of employees. The

Employment growth will vary by industry and is largely dependent on the rate of
industry growth. Top executives should face very strong competition for jobs. With
strong competition being predicted between executives, it would be advantageous to
further the level of education above the required minimum by completing a master s
or doctorate program.
Many aspiring CEOs choose to pursue a Master of Business Administration (MBA)
or a similar graduate degree. These programs can be pursued before finding work
within an industry or after having been employed for some time. Those who are
currently working in a corporate or managerial position can enroll in a part time
professional or executive MBA program that integrates practical employment
knowledge into the curriculum. MBA students might take classes in strategic
management, finance, organizational theories and managerial economics. For
individuals who may have an interest in leading a global organization, pursuing study
abroad options allows the study of international business and the development of
different cultural and societal skills. Most MBA programs require students to select a
concentration to focus on. Individuals can take advantage of this opportunity by
selecting an emphasis that relates to the industry they wish to advance in. Many
programs allow students to specialize in fields like marketing, finance, information
technology,

Longing for Liberation: Abolitionists and Women s Rights in The Black Cat In his
short story The Black Cat , Edgar Allan Poe constructs an allegory mirroring the
struggles of slavery and the abolitionist movement. Wrought with the tribulations of
slavery in 1840s, Poe s short story exemplifies the issues facing the Antebellum
United States by representing different participants in the horrors of slavery. Poe s
characters embody the roles of the slave master, the slave, and the abolitionist.
Initially, the narrator, or the slave master figure, introduces the audience to his
pleasant childhood disposition and love of animals. His temperament reflects society
uncorrupted by slavery. Once the narrator feels the effect of slavery in owning a black

sufferers (699). Touched by the repercussions of the corruption of slavery, the
previously uncomplaining and docile wife immediately recognizes the evil in her
husband s attempted murder of another black cat, another slave. As the narrator, or
the slave owner, swings an ax to kill the slave, she grabs his hand in an attempt to
stop him. He turns on her, driving the ax into her brain. Utilizing diction like wrath
, hideous , and demonical , Poe creates a grotesque image of carnage as the slave
watches the abolitionist cut down by the oppressive slave owner and the woman
beat into silence by the oppressive patriarchy. The slave owner entombs the woman
s body in the cellar of their home. Unbeknownst to the master, the slave remains
with the body of the woman reflecting the solidarity between the Woman s Rights
Movement and the slaves. When police come looking for the wife, the slave cries
out a wailing shriek, half of horror and half of triumph...from the throats of the
damned in their agony and of the demons that exult in the damnation (Poe 701). In
this moment, the slave embodies the cries of the thousands of slaves and women not
only stripped of their rights, but also robbed of their lives by the violence of the
51. Information Systems Security Review
Information Systems Security Review
Introduction
Information systems have three parts which include hardware, software and the
communications aspect. This view of Information systems is useful in applying
industry standards for protection as well as prevention at all layers (Spagnoletti and
Resca, 2008). Procedures will tell the personnel operating, or the administrators, how
the products would ensure organizational information security. Information System
implies information that requires protection from improper access, disclosure, or
destruction (Spagnoletti and Resca, 2008). This is possible if the system ensures
availability, confidentiality, as well as integrity of any data in an organization.
Corporations, financial institutions, and governments have a lot of information on
products, finances, research, and employees. This information usually resides in
electronic media and may move from one point to another. Furthermore, with the
advances in networks, transmission to other computers or access points within a
physical location or across the globe is possible. Any breach of the information may
have far reaching consequences such as bankruptcy, loss of competitive edge or
lawsuits from customers or business partners (Mithas et al, 2011). It is, therefore,
imperative to ensure Information Security.

Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) is a military and political organization which
is mainly led by nationals of Iraq and Syria. ISIS has committed crimes of
unimaginable cruelty in Syria and Iraq but the international criminal court (ICC) does
not have the power to open a case, according to Fatou Bensouda. The court was
unable to prosecute because neither Syrianor Iraqwere members of ICC. (ICC, 2015)
Crimes which have been reported, consist of mass executions, sexual slavery, rape
and other forms of sexual and gender based violence, torture, mutilation, deployment
and forced recruitment of children and the harassment of ethnic and religious
minorities, and the destruction of cultural property.
ISIS Jihadists originated from Al Qaeda and claim to be running a caliphate an
Islamic state ruled by one leader. They want to enforce their view of conservative
Islamic traditions. The caliphate covers IS controlled areas in northern Syria and
North Western Iraq. ISIS uses social media to spread fear. ISIS has more than
30,000 fighters known for their brutality and it is said to be raising more $2 million
a day from oil sales, taxes, extortion and smuggling. The U.S. and Arab partners are
launching airstrikes on Syrian targets to degrade and destroy ISIS. (BBC, 2014)
On October 30th, 2015, President Obama authorized boots on ground in Syria to

55. The Effect Of Vitamin C On Concentration Essay
Leo Fauvel Michael Bruce AS91387
VITAMIN C CONCENTRATION
Purpose
The purpose of this investigation was to study the effects of vitamin C decreasing in
concentration over time after being exposed to oxygen. This occurs by the ascorbic
acid (which is the organic molecule known as vitamin C) breaking down in the
process of oxygen in an oxidation reaction. Enzymes in the citrus fruits increase the
rate of oxidation. A deaeration step minimizes amount of oxygen so the amount of
ascorbic acid lost is minimized.
Vitamin C, also known as L ascorbic acid, is a water soluble vitamin that is
naturally present in some foods, added to others, and available as a dietary
supplement. Humans, unlike most animals, are unable to synthesize vitamin C
endogenously, so it is an essential dietary component This means that it s important
for Humans to get vitamin C from somewhere, and if they choose to get it through
drinking juice then we will see what amounts they need to drink in order to keep up
a healthy intake, and how long it will take before the juice doesn t supply enough.
Hypothesis
Our expectation for this experiment is that the levels of vitamin C concentration will
constantly reduce over time.

differences. The classes was obviously divided by location, amount of material
possessions and the way one person acts. For a American novel class is an unusual
theme, it is more common to find it in European and British novels. Most of the
societies are divided between the rich and the older modern way. Fitzgerald reflects
social status through many geographical locations in American, and explains them
by their traits, lifestyles, and mentalities. Fitzgerald illustrates the class differences
in the 1920 s for example, he started with introducing you to the characters of
different social classes and describes them in a way they act belonging to one of the
