Same-Sex Couples
Lindsey and Beth, a lesbian couple, have been living together for eleven years. Lindsey conceived
two children from a sperm donor. Together, Lindsey and Beth turned their house into a loving home
for their two children. One day, on the way home from the grocery store, Lindsey was killed in a
tragic car accident. Before Beth could even grasp the situation, the children that she helped raise
from birth had been taken away and placed into the care of Lindsey's parents, who never were a part
of their lives because they did not accept Lindsey's homosexuality. In addition, the house that Beth
and Lindsey lived in for eleven years was taken away from Beth. How did this happen to Beth?
Well, if Lindsey and Beth could have been legally married ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

According to David Moats, "by the late 1980's an increasing number of lesbian couples around the
country were having babies" (83). Rauch, validates Moats by saying, "Of the 594,000 same–sex
couples counted by the Census Bureau in its 2000 survey of American households, 28 percent – just
over a third of lesbian couples and just over a fifth of make couples – had children" (74). A major
consequence of homosexual couples that engage in long–term relationships is the danger to children
because children need the stability of married parents. In a heterosexual relationship, marriage laws
protect children in case something happens to the parents such as death. If the mother dies in a
traditional marriage, the father will have custody of the children, whereas in a homosexual
relationship, the partner who may have raised the child from birth is not entitled to the protections
and benefits that marriage brings. Thus, the child not only has to deal with the loss of the parent that
died, but also the parent that does not have legal rights to gain custody. Rauch adds, "Everything we
know about children suggests they do best in stable homes, and everything we know about homes
suggests that marriage makes them more stable" (75). The security of a family greatly impacts the
development of a child. The legal rights that marriage offers would protect homosexuals in their

The Issue Of Same Sex Marriage
There are many important ethical disputes that have been in the forefront of American politics
within this last year. Same–sex marriage is a debatable topic that attracts many responses from those
supporting and those opposing the issue. People who dispute gay marriage believe it is morally
wrong, while gay rights activists believe that all marriages be treated equally. This dispute is put into
several different lights including morals, family values and religion; and those of equality,
constitutionality.
Section 1: The first major law that affected same–sex marriage was the Defense of Marriage Act
(DOMA). It was approved by Congress and signed into law by President Bill Clinton on September
21, 1996. DOMA defined that marriage was between a man and a woman at the federal level. It also
gave states the right to reject recognition of same–sex marriages from other states. "DOMA
mandates unequal treatment of legally married same–sex couples, selectively depriving them of the
1,138+ protections and responsibilities that marriage triggers at the federal level." (Freedom to
Marry) At the time DOMA was passed, no states permitted gays and lesbians to marry. On June 26,
2013, in Windsor v. United States, "Justice Anthony Kennedy, speaking for the 5–4 majority, said
DOMA was unconstitutional because it violated the right to liberty and to equal protection for gay
couples." (Savage) When the ruling was declared, twelve states and the District of Columbia legally

Supporters of gay marriage argue around the concept of equality in America. Our country is said to
be found on the principle that all men are created equal, so that make it hypocritical to deny the
rights of homosexuals, as it was hypocritical to deny freedom to African Americans or to prohibit
women 's suffrage. Supporters also believe that Gays should be allows the same benefits as regular
married couples. For instance, only through marriage do same sex couples have the rights to their
partner 's insurance benefits, Social Security, Medicare, or property inheritance. Also, without a
legally recognized marriage, gay partners cannot be acknowledged as next of kin in the case of a
medical emergency or incapacitation. Denying someone their ... Show more content on

Obama administration has said that the law passed in 1996, on behalf of a group appointed by the
Republican leaders in the U.S. House of Representatives was unconstitutional (Thomson Reuters

lesbian, gay or bisexual be free to get married in all states. Why should they have to go or move to
one of the nines states or the District of Columbia to join each other hands in marriage? If we are the
land of the free and equal right, how come we are taken the freedom of marriage away from gays? I
strongly believe that we are going against everything our country I said to be based on. If we are the
land of the free and for equal right same sex marriage should be allowed in every state. Just because
some may have different beliefs than other, does not give us the rights to discriminate or deny right
to gay just because they are different. At the end of the day they are still Americans citizens and
should be treated and allowed the same befits as everyone else. Gays should be able to express who
they really are, even though marriage. So I

The Importance Of Same Sex Marriage
Globalism and Nationalism play a huge part in our society today and they are required for the
progression and development of the country. I think nationalism is important in the development of
our country, but globalism is also needed to become a developed country, because without
globalism, nationalism is not able to act, so both of them depend on each other. The same sex
marriage issue is a contradicting viewpoint for both nationalists and globalists worldwide. Same sex
couples should be treated like any other person and should not be denied anything an ordinary
person would not. Same sex marriage has impacted many people in our society today, whether it
being people disagreeing or agreeing with it. According to an article titled Countries Least
Accepting Of Same Sex Marriage written by Kimutai Gilbert it says "The countries leading in
legalizing same–sex marriage are western countries and countries of the Americas including the
United Kingdom and the United States among others". Some of the other countries still oppose same
sex marriage due to them thinking that it is unreligious, uncultured, and unacceptable. An example
of this was in July 2012 when a gay couple asked a baker to create a wedding cake for a celebration
of their marriage. Mr. Phillips told them that he could not design and bake a wedding cake for them
because it would violate his Christian convictions. This couple was denied service, because of their
sexual orientation which was an erroneous thing to

Same-sex Marriage Opponents
Many Americans are opposed to same–sex marriage, while, at the same time, in support of civil
unions (Dudley). Many same–sex marriage opponents disagree based solely on the use of the word
"marriage." Those opponents to same–sex marriage feel that the term marriage is defined by societal
norms or established by religious tradition and should be limited to only define a relationship
between a man and a woman. Opponents to same–sex marriage based solely on the use of the word
"marriage" point out that "from a lawful perspective, marriage and civil unions encompass the same
benefits" (Smith). The argument over what to call same–sex marriage however fails to take into
account the true nature of what members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT)
community seek and what opponents oppose. Members of the LGBT community seek full marriage
equality in term and in accomplishment, not a separate but equal standing. We need to extend the
debate beyond terminology and focus our attention towards the issue of why the LGBT community
merits equal access to all rights, specifically marriage.
One of the main arguments for same–sex marriage is the right to be a legal partner to a spouse. In
most situations, current local, state, and federal law will find against the privileges of the non–
marred companion to make medical decisions for their significant other. In marriage, when a spouse
is injured or even killed, the law acknowledges the married spouse as the next of kin;

Just about everyone has an opinion on whether same–sex couples should be allowed to legally
marry. The arguments range from personal beliefs to what marriage is said to be in the Bible. Why
should a couple be forbidden from showing each other along with family and friends that they are
fully committed to each other? What place is it for the government to say that said couple is not
allowed to commit to the one who truly makes you happy? Why should these people who are
willing to be together for better or worse, in sickness and health, for richer or poorer not get the
respect, consideration, and benefits that any opposite sex couple are granted? The United States are

In 1996 President Bill Clinton signs the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) which allows states'
rights to ban same–sex marriages and to refuse to recognize such marriages performed elsewhere.
Alaska voters approved an amendment to ban same–sex marriages in 1998. Vermont was the first
state to recognize civil unions between same–sex couples in 2000 while that same year Nebraska
voted to ban these marriages. Nevada banned same–sex marriages in 2002. November of 2003 the
Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court ruled that banning same–sex couples from marrying violates
the state's constitution and in turn makes gay and lesbian couples "second class citizens". In May of
2004 President Bush declared to support the federal constitutional amendment to ban same–sex
marriages. By May of 2004 same–sex marriages became legal in Massachusetts. While by
November of this year thirteen other states including Missouri, Louisiana, Arkansas, Georgia,
Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Montana, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Utah all
approved the banning of same–sex marriages. Other states began to follow the footsteps of
Massachusetts legalizing civil unions as Connecticut did in October of 2005 while Kansas along
with Texas followed the counterpart banning marriages that year. New Jersey in December of 2006
decided to legalize civil unions as Alabama, Idaho, Colorado, South Dakota, South Carolina,
Tennessee, Virginia, and Wisconsin all voted to ban these unions. 2008 was a busy

The Morality Of Same Sex Marriage
The morality of same–sex marriage is a major controversial issue in the United States today. While
Liberals believe that marriage should be the union of two people who love each other and that it
should be legal for gay and lesbian individuals in order to ensure equal rights for all citizens,
Conservatives believe that marriage is the union of one woman and one man only and that requiring
citizens to sanction same–sex relationships violates moral and religious beliefs. Taking opposing
viewpoints of this issue are both philosophers David Boonin and Jeff Jordan who discuss the public
dilemma of same–sex marriage within their articles.
Through the use of counterarguments to the premises made by Jeff Jordan, as well as by discussing

After providing a set of premises as to why one would hold the parity thesis– which states that
homosexuality has the same moral status as heterosexuality– true; Jordan attacks these claims by
objecting to the first premise which states that homosexual acts between consenting adults do not
harm anyone, and the fourth which explains that discrimination against homosexuals removes
individual freedom as it ignores personal choice and privacy [Jordan 2]. He states that these
premises are only plausible when these acts are done in private, concluding that one should only be
able to discriminate homosexual behavior if it is done in public. This premise is an assumption made
by Jordan that unlike homosexual acts, people enjoy viewing heterosexual acts that are displayed
publically. This premise assumes that the majority of society accepts viewing heterosexual behavior
in public, but are uncomfortable with viewing public homosexual acts.
To set up his argument in support of the Difference Thesis, Jordan creates a scenario in which one
person believes that subject "X" is morally wrong but another person believes it is morally
permissible, calling this conflict an "impasse" (Jordan 42). He continues to define "public dilemma"
as special case impasses and

Same sex marriage has been a topic on the rise throughout the U.S. It is what some of us may
consider one of the more important topics of discussion for this time period. So far 17 states out of
50 have declared same sex marriage legal (States, 2013). Same sex marriage should be legal
throughout the U.S. because same sex couples have a civil right to get married, along with a right to
have access to the same benefits as heterosexual couples, and to be treated as equals without fear of
discrimination. Same sex marriage is a civil right. In 1958 a couple named Richard and Mildred
Loving were arrested in their home for interracial marriage in Virginia, which happened to be illegal
at the time. They received a 1–year jail sentence, which was ... Show more content on

In February 2004 the Massachusetts Supreme Court wrote an opinion to the state Senate stating that
having civil unions instead of marriages wasn't acceptable because allowing same sex couples to
have a civil union, but not allowing them to be married, makes gay couples seem as if they were
considered as second class status (Gay Marriage Legal, n.d.). As a matter of fact the Arizona
Governor Jan Brewer vetoed a bill recently, which would have allowed business owners the right to
refuse service to gay couples based on religion (Santos, 2014). However, as discussed in class
during one of the presentations, how would you differentiate between who is doing it for religious
purposes and who is doing it because they discriminate against same sex couples? Chuck Coughlin,
a public affairs consultant who worked with the Governor of Arizona and her team when she was
elected, said in regards to this bill that, "We already have laws to sufficiently protect peoples
religious freedom in this country and this bill could actually empower people to discriminate"
(Santos, 2014). On the other side many people claim that it has nothing to do with discrimination
and everything to do with religion. For example, the people who say they want to use the Arizona
bill for their own religious purposes. Many people believe in what the Bible says. The bible claims
that marriage was established by God, the creator of all things, and was intended to be

Same–sex marriage has been an issue among society for many years. Not all people understand
there is no ban on same sex–marriage nor is it illegal. In all fifty states there are couples of the same
sex who live together, ones who choose their professional job to be in a workplace where joint
benefits are offered, and ones who choose a religious community which accepts their relationship.
Those who believe this is an issue and feel it should be illegal were likely raised to believe it is
wrong to marry someone of the same gender. Whether these people in society were raised by what
their religion believes or what their families have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Anyone could sit and debate this issue all day long, but understanding the reality of the situation is
another story. Everyone's reality is different and everyone's perspective on same–sex marriage is
different. If society came together as a whole and realized that any person who is categorized as
"gay" has the same opportunities in life that anyone else has. They cannot help that they are gay,
they were born that way. Being who you are is especially important in order to feel accepted as a
person. Without the support of society and the government same–sex marriages will bring a new
chapter into each and every state. It is up to the individuals in society to accept one not because of
their sexual orientation but be accepted for who they are as an individual. Listening to others debate
this issue is interesting and the feedback one encounters could make feelings change or become real.

Legalization of Same-Sex Marriages
In our time the traditional viewpoint that we have previously exerted in relationship to the definition
of a family is being challenged more than ever before. Regardless of whether or not that is through
grandparents raising children, foster children and adopted children being raised in families, single
parenting, interracial couples, etc. One of the most talked about issues of our time is the legality of
same sex union/marriages. The standpoint that many take on this issue is one rooted very deeply in
traditions and personal beliefs. There is a constant conflict of opinions. However, research
consistently that relationships between families are tied together based off of the quality of the
relationship and child outcomes compared to the sexual orientation of the parents. In every
individual, there are desires that are present to someday include a child into your life. Whether that
be at a young or old age, you are given the right to bear children into their world whenever you so
wish as long as your circumstances are right. For those that identify as being gay/lesbian they do not
have that choice. However even those who are involved in same sex relationships ultimately have
the desire to have children. Whether it be through adoption, artificial insemination, surrogate moms,
or fostering children they can become parents. For some individuals, they have children from
previous heterosexual relationships as they felt the need to cover up for their true identity or maybe

Same Sex Marriage And Civil Rights For Same-Sex Marriage
Same–sex Marriage is a question that comes across my path on a consistent basis. The agency where
I work advocates this practice, which requires yearly training videos to ensure everyone understands
the rules of the practice. Although our society bends the laws to support this practice, I will argue
that government laws do not hold true to God's law or even the law of nature. Additionally, I will
argue that marriage, by natural law, is designed for procreating purposes.
When someone thinks of marriage, it is two people, man, and woman, that have fallen in love, went
through the ceremony, have children, and the circle of life begins. "Marriage has 'a specific
orientation to having children. The first of Augustine's 'three goods' of marriage – children – would
be inapplicable to covenant partnerships: the second and third goods – faithfulness and the 'bond of
permanence' – would very much apply. But marriage has been re–ordered by the resurrection of
Christ," shares Thatcher.
In contrast, the argument for same–sex marriage is that it is just like civil rights of that African–
Americans. The civil rights movement and civil rights for African–Americans are nowhere near the
same or in comparison to a social agenda pushed by those for same–sex marriages. According to

Same–Sex Marriage: Not a Match for Society Marriage, as defined by Merriam–Webster, is "the
legal relationship into which a man and a woman enter with purpose of making a home and raising a
family" (358).Although most people in the United States, including myself, agree on that definition,
there are a select few who do not. Some feel same–sex marriage should be legalized; I disagree! I
disagree because of its effects on children, its unnaturalness, and its religious immorality. My first
argument addresses the effects of homosexual parents on children; and children affected by
homosexuality in general. A child living in a home with homosexual parents encounters the problem
of the lack of either a mother or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Legalization Of Same Sex Marriage
The legalization of same–sex marriage is a hot topic in the U.S. approving, it in all fifty states can be
harmful to the country. Same–sex marriage should not have been legalized in the United States.
First, legalizing can be harmful to the society, Second, same–sex marriage it always denies a child a

means all citizens should have understood of the consequences before making the decision. One
negative aspect of same–sex marriage it would be harmful to society Same– sex marriage has
already been legal in all fifty states of America. It is harmful because In the name of the "family,"
same–sex "marriage" serves to validate not only such unions but also the completely homosexual
lifestyle in all its bisexual and transgender variants. Legal recognition of same–sex "marriage"
would necessarily unclear certain basic moral values, devalue traditional marriage, and weaken
public morality. The State becomes its official and active promoter of same–sex marriage and orders
public officials to officiate at the new civil ceremony, and public schools to teach its acceptability to
children and punishes any state employee who expresses disapproval. ("10 Reasons Why

There is no doubt that there are many different points of views when it comes to same–sex

Some countries are more gay–friendly than others, while yet some are just beginning the transition
to acceptance of LGBT people. As the debate over legal recognition of gay and lesbian couples
heightens, individual states in the U.S. are considering different types of protection for gay and
lesbian couples under the law. They are civil unions, domestic partnerships and same–sex marriage.
In most cases, civil unions and domestic partnership laws only offer a fraction of the 1,049 benefits
the United States government provides for couples in a heterosexual marriage. Currently in the U.S.,
only Connecticut and Vermont allow same–sex civil unions. So in order for same sex couples to
adopt or becoming a parent to another child they must know the facts and the rights that come with
them. They shouldn't listen to other people telling them that they can't do anything anymore because
they are gay or lesbian.
Marriage of same–sex couples is one of the most controversial aspects in our community. Many
people look at it as something that goes against some religious beliefs and/or political views. Others,
those who are pro GLBT rights, explain that everybody should be treated equally, and that sex
orientation, race, or social class should not be taken into consideration when decisions concerning
human rights are being studied. The issue of gay marriage is one of the controversies that leave our
society searching for the answers.

Legalization of Same–Sex Marriage Everyone has the right to be with the person they love. Nobody,
not even the government, should be able to take that kind of happiness and freedom away from
someone. If a girl loves another girl or a guy loves another guy, it should not matter to anyone else
as long as they are happy together. "We are all equals in the world whether we are Black, White,
Hispanic, Indian, or any other race for that matter. Why should we not be equals based on sexuality
orientation" (Gay Marriage Pros and Cons)? Everyone deserves to have the same equal rights.
Everyone has different beliefs and nothing can or will change that. Some people believe in same–
sex marriage and some people do not, but there is still no reason to dislike or judge people that
believe in something someone else does not believe in. Not everyone in the world has the same
beliefs. That is life, it happens. So what is the point of being so against this one belief? Same sex
couples do not walk around bashing on straight people for the person they love, so why can't all
straight couples do the same thing and not bash on same sex couples?
Not only is this situation against some people's beliefs, but it also is against the constitution. "The

The reason for this is because people have been taught that only a relationship between a man and a
woman should exist. The thought of anything else is repulsive. How could a man be with a man and
a woman with a woman? It's disgusting to imagine that these people don't care about the rest of the
population. They are being selfish and sending out the wrong message to everyone. Society has a
specific mindset and, therefore, has guidelines for the way people should behave. Legalizing same–
sex marriage contradicts these guidelines and this immoral behavior affects everyone and causes
them to be uncomfortable with the idea of same–sex marriages. Marriage is a legal contract:
Marriage is legally defined as, "a legal contract entered into between a man and woman who intend
to become husband and wife. Marriage creates a legal relationship between husband and wife with
rights and obligations governed by state law. Requirements for marriage vary from state to state, but
usually require a man and woman to pay a minimal fee and apply for a marriage license from a
county court clerk in the state in which they plan to be married."11 This definition states that
marriage is bonded by a legal contract that has a requirement of paying a minimum fee and applying

The Legalization Of Same Sex Marriage
THE CONTENTION
Introduction
Legalization of same sex marriage in the USA and abroad is and will always remain a disgrace and
an abomination to God's word. Same sex marriage is identified as two of the same sex coming
together in matrimony with the same legal representation that a couple of the opposite sex would
have. Before the Supreme Court Ruling in 2015, 39 of the 50 states of the United States of America
were already supporting and legally allowing same sex marriages. Although many may have their
own preconception of what marriage is the bible tells us that marriage is a covenant between a man
and a woman and not that of a man and a man, or a woman and a woman. (Leviticus 20:13) says "If
there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a
detestable act; they shall surely be put to death. Their bloodguiltiness is upon them."

In May of 2004 Massachusetts became the first state to issue a marriage license to same sex couples.
After the Supreme Court Ruled that same sex marriages were legal across the United States of
America four states, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Texas, and Utah took immediate action passing a
law that would exempt religious officials from having to perform same sex marriages which would
interfere with their own religious beliefs. The definition of a wife is–a woman, an adult female. The
definition of a husband is–the male head of a household. The definition of marriage is–a legal union

Against Same-Sex-Marriage
Against Same–Sex Marriage Marriage is the formal relationship between a man and a woman,
usually recognized by the law, by which they become husband and wife. In terms of legal
recognition and acknowledgement, the majority of states, authorities, and jurisdiction limit marriage
to opposite sex couples or two persons of opposite gender. Same sex marriage would weaken the
definition and respect for the institution of marriage. When discussing same sex marriage, the true
meaning and definition of marriage is the topic that often comes up, which is why it is very
significant to remember the true importance of marriage. I strongly believe that same sex marriage
should not be legalized because it would harm many individuals. If same sex marriage is legalized,
the birth rates would decrease, fewer children would be raised by an opposite married parents, and
medical insurance costs/charges would rise. Legalizing same sex marriage would cause the birth
rates to decrease. One of the most basic tasks or responsibilities of any human society is to
reproduce. Marriage, which is the privilege of male–female sexual relationship, is given to every
human society because it is the only type of relationship that has the capability of natural
procreation. Offering the benefits and status of "marriage" to those who are not capable of natural
procreation would dramatically and negatively change the society. The long–term consequences
would be that fewer opposite–sex relationships would be

couples wish to for love, constant companionship, and to create a nuclear family environment. A
survey of same–sex marriage and same–sex parenting reveals several challenges facing gay and
lesbian couples, most noticeable being the stereotyping their lifestyles, parenting, and gay beliefs. In
the United States, marriage egalitarianism has started to structure itself. The first acknowledged
legal battles started in 1969 after the Metropolitan Community Church implemented the country's
inaugural gay espousal ceremony. Meanwhile, the same year in Minnesota Jack Baker and Michael
McConnell became virtually unnoticed as the first gay couple to request a marriage license in the
United States (Revel & Riot). President Bill Clinton validated the Defense of Marriage Act into law
in 1996 to prevent the federal government from acknowledging same–sex marriages and decree that
no state should acknowledge any other state marriage license if it belongs to a same–sex couple. The
authors' state, "On May 17, 2004, nonetheless, in Massachusetts became the inaugural state to
proclaim same–sex marriage, as legitimate and enforceable" (Roberts and Starks). California, with
the nation largest racially diverse gay and lesbian population has more recently played an eminent
role within the contemporary gay marriage dissension (Roberts and Starks). In 2008, with rulings

In Hawaii there was a couple that have been together for 35 years and they only reason they are not
married is because it is illegal. If one of them have ever had a surgery they could not have seen each
other in the hospital. Or if one of them have been in a serious accident and about to die they could
not see each other because they are not related by blood or married. Also if one of them would have
died they would not the ability to collect life insurance because they are not legally married. They
are now married happily in Hawaii. Same–sex marriage is starting to be legalized in states and
accepted by many along with that many people are against the idea, same–sex marriage also
promotes change and growth. November 21st, 2013 Illinois legalizes same–sex marriage

someone in a same–sex relationship gets injured they will be able to see their significant other in the
hospital. They will now have the same benefits as any other married couple in the United States of
America. Even though same–sex marriage will not be officially legal until June it is still a victory in
the LGBT community and will not go unnoticed. When the Governor of Illinois Pat Quinn sign the

ABSTRACT
Biological Sex–Marriage: "An Alteration to Humanity"
This study describes the advantages and also the disadvantages of couples of the same sex being
married. It aims to explore how it affects the society and most importantly the church. Same–sex
marriage, popularly known as gay marriage, is a socially or legally reorganized wedlock between
two persons of similar social gender or biological sex. Although the idea of same–sex marriage can
be traced back to ancient times, it is not legally reorganized at the national level. The issue of same–
sex marriage is one that has attracted a lot of controversies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In legal terms, marriage is a binding relationship between two parties, of the opposite sex, which
joins their belongings, lives and income. Marriage is reorganized by law, and dissolution of marriage
can only happen by court process for divorce.
SAME SEX MARRIAGE AND THE CHURCH:
According to the church, marriage was established in Eden by God to be a lifelong union between a
woman and a man in a caring companionship. To the church, same–sex marriage is a sin that has
perverted the idea of God about marriage and family. Most priests and clergymen believe that same–
sex marriage is a manifestation of brokenness and disorder in the human relation and inclination as a
result of sin. While all human beings are subject to the fallen nature of humans, the church believes
that through the grace of God people live in harmony with the world. To the church, same–sex
marriage is disgusting and unnatural. Same–sex marriage is equally unnatural. While the satisfaction
and pleasure may be the same as heterosexual sex, it is definitely the way the human body was
designed to have sexual intercourse. For example, most people argue that the fact that same–sex
lesbian couples use dildos and vibrators to pleasure themselves is proof enough that sex was meant
for a man and a woman. The same way, anal sex in gay couple is a proof that sex was designed

I...My chosen topic is Gay Rights– more specifically marriage equality. Public opinion in the U.S.
shows the majority support for the legal recognition of same–sex marriages. This issue is more
likely to be supported by women and people under 50. My thesis is that marriage equality a civil
right, rights we are born with as a citizen of the U.S. which the government cannot interfere with or
suppress. (Lecture Notes 8/27). Over the past decade, marriage equality has become an even larger
and more controversial issue. The issue of same–sex marriage equality is being supported today in
33 states by the means of laws, court cases and social changes in our society.
II... The issue of equal legal right to marry for same–sex couples first surfaced in court around the
1970s but was immediately rejected. In the 1990s several California lawyer's organizations
supported a proposed bill to permit same–sex marriage. In 1996, President Bill Clinton signed into
law the Defense of Marriage Act, which defines marriage as being strictly between a man and a
woman, and expresses that states do not have to recognize same–sex marriages that occur in other
states. In 1997, Hawaii enacts a "domestic partnership" legislation with limited rights for same–sex
partners. That same year, anti–same–sex marriage laws were in place in 12 states. In Baker v. State
(1999), the Vermont Supreme Court concludes that

Same sex, Same love Homosexuality is the "same" kind of love as heterosexuality. Same–sex
couples should have access to the same benefits enjoyed as any other couples since it's recognize as
a human right. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis made a song for supporters in reference to the February
2012 bill that would legalize same–sex marriage in the state(s). Same Love by Macklemore and
Ryan Lewis portray a rap song that explicitly defends same–sex love by calling out hip–hop's
history of homophobia and eliminate the injustice involving same–sex couples. Macklemore and
Ryan Lewis is an American hip hop duo from Seattle, Washington formed in 2009. Macklemore and
Ryan Lewis teamed up with Mary Lambert, a talented poet and songwriter. This song mainly talks
about a personal story. The video, spanning decades from childhood to old age, depicts the life of
the main character and the same–sex partner with whom he falls in love, including the social
conflicts in their path of being in love due to their difference because of sexual orientation. The
three display through music to show their support for civil rights and marriage equality through
unapologetic discussion of the intolerance the cause and it's supporters continue to face.
Macklemore also explained that the song came out of his own frustration with surrounding hip hop
culture towards homosexuality. Since many artists these days uses offensive words such as "fag"
and"faggot" as a way to use against people they think less of.

The Issue Of Same Sex Marriage
The outline of the articles is to highlight the important factors which exist in the research of studies
focusing on same–sex and heterosexual couples and the challenges they experience with bringing up
children. The main focus of the articles is to draw on the conclusion on same–sex couples. When
dealing with families of same sex marriages you must put into consideration how families are the
same and different from traditional families. In today 's society many of same–sex couples are
confronted with social irregular characteristics which may cause many complex issues. The main
point is to offer concrete evidence as a powerful influence for inquiries raised by women's activist
and scholars who have contended that the sanctioning of same–sex marriages will fortify the
heteronormative establishment of conventional marriage (Lannutti, 2005). I will begin by providing
a survey of the inquiries of sociology highlighting the similitudes and contrasts between same–sex
and ordinary hetero connections and families. Researchers and supporters of the same–sex marriage
concur that the legal ramifications of same–sex marriage should not revolve simply around hetero
couples but rather the overcoming of challenges by all couples. The most recent couple of years
there have been a great deal of civil debates over same–sex unions and their children and the worry
of their family structure 's impact on them (Lannutti, 2005). The literature on family structure has

The law this state recently passed is Proposition 8, also known as the California Marriage Protection
Act. In truth it isn't just a law. Proposition 8 was recently passed by Californian legislature as a new
amendment to their state constitution. This amendment forbids any same–sex marriage throughout
the state of California. This California bill garnered a lot of support from many different sources.
Much of the support that was behind this bill was religious in nature, especially by the Mormon
group. However, not all of the support behind this bill was religious. There was also a number of
political supporters, most notably Sen. John McCain. However, in his statement, he never actually
said that he personally was against same–sex marriage. He only said that he supported Proposition 8
because it seemed like the majority of the constituency of California supported it. Bills and
amendments like these have a significant effect on an average homosexual's state of mind, as shown
by a study:
The odds of mood disorders at wave 2 was 1.67 times the odds at wave 1 among LGB respondents
in states with amendments whereas the odds at wave 2 was not significantly different than the odds
at wave 1 among LGB respondents in states without amendments (Hatzenbeuhler, et al. 454).
When someone thinks about this, it begins to make a lot of sense and isn't a very surprising statistic.

Same Sex Marriage Is the definition of marriage being threatened in the United States? President
Bill Clinton signed the federal Defense of Marriage Act into law on September 21, 1996. This Act
defined marriage at the federal level as between a man and a woman. The federal DOMA statute
ensured that no state would be forced to recognize gay marriages performed in other states and
prevented same–sex couples from receiving federal protections and benefits given to married
heterosexual couples. On February 23, 2011 President Obama instructed the Justice Department to
stop defending the Defense of Marriage Act saying that is violates the Fifth Amendment.

For centuries, same sex couples have been scrutinised and marginalised based on their sexual
orientation, however, over recent decades, movements established by same sex couples have enticed
the Australian Government to equate specific rights and privileges between homo– and heterosexual

Christian portion of Australia, whom of which strongly oppose the concept of homosexuality.
Regardless of the superior social status they now withhold, same sex couples are still confronted

However, at current, homosexual couples are still suffering from various forms of socio–economic

heterosexual, due to their sexual orientation. This mistreatment originates from the concept of
homophobia – a fear or hatred of homosexuality. This hatred may be reinforced by a number of
factors, including: moral, religious, and political beliefs of a dominant group. Despite the

Same Sex, Same Rights
The sexual preference of people should not determine their acceptance in society. People should be
open to understand the union of two individuals of the same sex. The term of marriage has changed
over time. What historically was conceived as a man and a woman union should not restrain people
from adapting this concept. Many people believe that the marriage between two same–sex couples is
not natural. Marriage should be based on love, regardless of sex, color or religion. Marriage is a
civil and Constitutional right that grants anyone the right to be happy. Through the laws, they have
the power to separate the church from the state. With these on their power, gays and lesbians have

Same–sex marriage is a topic that has become increasingly more debatable throughout time.
America has been said to be the "land of the free," but when it comes to homosexual couples, it is
far from that. If same–sex marriage was legalized, many positive outcomes could emerge from it;
the society would be closer to equality, adoption would increase, gained social support for families
would develop, and it would positively affect the economy and tax revenues. In 1993, the first
national debate was made in regards to same–sex marriage, which occurred in Hawaii. According to

The second statement implies that individuals become who they are exposed to, which is a hasty
generalization and there is no evidence to back that statement. Janice Langbehn was able to bring
the importance of same sex couple benefits to the public eye. Janice Langbehn was denied access to
visit her dying partner in the hospital. Thereafter, President Obama apologized to Janice and
informed her of the Presidential Memorandum that was previously signed, which is the extension of
benefits to same–sex domestic partners. With that being said, same sex couples should be issued the
same benefits as heterosexual couples.
Same sex couples can also produce financial gain for both local and state governments because of
the generation of tax revenue. This allows the economy to benefit from the legalization of same–sex
marriage. According to Jerome Nathaniel (2012), since same–sex marriages were legalized in New
York, anywhere from 7,200 to 8,200 gay couples have gotten married in the city; the marriages have
brokered in 200,000 out–of–towners, $259 million in economic activity and $16 million in taxes.
Even though same–sex marriage should be an equal right, the impact same–sex marriage will make
on the economy is significant, which is more than enough reason to legalize it.

Speaking of the first amendment, lets take a closer look at what it says. The Amendment states
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise

Same Sex Marriage In Australia
Same sex marriage within Australia is a highly contentious topical issue that has seen increasing
importance over the past decade. People of the LGBTI community have faced great discrimination
in the past with homosexuality being illegal and frowned upon from as early as 1901. South
Australia legalised homosexual acts in 1975 with many other states following over the years. Same
sex couples are now recognised in today's society with them being classed as de facto relationships.
While same–sex marriage has not yet been legalised, recent movements including the national postal
survey, has seen great support for change.
Moral and political values have been central to many of the arguments surrounding the issue
including religious views and political responsibilities. Many religions see same–sex
marriage/homosexuality as incompatible and therefore do not permit their support of legislation to
legalise same–sex marriage. However many religious institutions such as churches have expressed
their support for equal marriage rights. Political values that come into the argument are that same
sex marriage is preventing people from having religious freedom and freedom of speech. This has
been expressed throughout the campaign as many religious institutions think that their religious
freedom is being denied, as they will have to hold same–sex couples wedding ceremonies. People
also think that they have been silenced throughout the 'yes' campaign. Rights and responsibilities on

Equality of Love What does love mean if one can't love the person one wants. For some, love comes
easy , meaning they have that ideal relationship, the relationship that is "morally right". When
speaking on gay marriage, there are typically two views. To some it is just absouletly disgusting, and
then to others it's a beautiful thing. " Opponents of Same Sex Marriage say marriage is between a
man and a woman and anything else is morally wrong( "At Issue : Same Sex Marriage") As a human
being , whose right is it to tell someone who they can and can not love. Sometimes people may
disagree with gay marriage on a spiritual level, but who is to say one person's sin is less then the
next person's sin? Gay marriage is a beautiful thing, and any human should have their rights no
matter who they love. As a human, one deserves to be happy. For many homosexual couples, that
may not be the case. With the issues of , same sex marriage, LBGT rights, and gay adoption in
general all humans should be able to enjoy the same rights. Marriage is a unity between two people.
It may be a hetertosexual couple or it may be a homosexual couple , that choice should be left up to
the two people who decided to join in unity. They argue that allowing homosexual couples will
destroy the sanitity of marriage ( "At Issue : Same Sex Marriage"). No one has the right to tell

Writing for the majority, Justice
Anthony Kennedy states that "no union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the
highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family." Kennedy goes on to say that gay
and lesbian couples "ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law. The Constitution grants them
that right." ( Nasci1). I think this amendment protects the rights of homosexuals. Same sex
marriage should be legal because all individuals have the same right in society; same–sex couples
can constitute a good based family. It is just a way to make official a common union nowadays,
even there are religious issue; because it is not related to polygamy; and because love matters
and it does not differ in nature according to the sex of its object or the person who experiences it.
Prior to the U.S. Supreme Court ruling, same sex marriage is only legal in some states.
Some states do not agree with same sex marriage. "Same–sex marriage was legal in 36 states and
the District of Columbia. In 19 of those states. (Nascri). I think same sex marriage should be
legal. The state should not say anything about agreeing to an adult 's way of life. If two people
love each other and want to get married, regardless of their partner 's color, religion, nationality or
gender, they should be allowed to do so love and marriage should be purely a personal choice.

One of the most heated and debated topics today is the legalization of same–sex marriage. No matter
where you look, people are always expressing their opinion on this issue. Politicians, athletes, and
celebrities are some of the many people who continually come out with either support or opposition
of same–sex marriage. History has shown that issues regarding equality and rights take time to move
forward. The women's suffrage movement and the civil rights movement are both prime examples of
the effort and time it takes for movements to become accepted by everyone in the general public.
These movements involve many of the same dynamics that make up the push for the legalization of
same–sex marriage. People come together and have parades or demonstrations, public figures make
their opinions known, and slowly but surely the government enforces change. Today, there are many
factors that go into the debate of legalizing same–sex marriage. The debate expands much farther
beyond the idea of whether or not same–sex marriage is morally right or wrong. This decision
includes reevaluating previous ideas of what traditional marriage is, involves instituting new laws,
and changing part of the public's opinion on the idea of same–sex marriage itself. As with all issues
that are faced by people, there many are pros and cons that need to be considered before making the
big decisions of legalizing same–sex marriage.

This is the main reason we have a Bill of Rights as well as anti–slavery and equal protection

denying marriage to black couples. "I was raised by two homosexuals. I was surrounded by
homosexuals... but they did not influence me" (quote in article) this is the argument that many
homosexuals make. Homosexuality to them is not a life choice that they can just choose to be they
see being gay as what is biologically encoded into their brains. By making this case this becomes
more about civil rights because now it can be interperated as being in the same category as being a
certain race. Being the minority, Quindlen also argues that people are opposed of the idea of gay
marriage because it is not what a traditional marriage is seen as. When we think of a marriage we
think of the "traditional" wedding flowers, dresses, bridesmaids, rings, tuxedos, and grooms men.
Supporters against same sex marriage only see this traditional marriage between a man and a
woman. This aspect is what many supporters focus on. The legitimacy of a marriage is lost when it
becomes between two individuals that are of the same sex. Supporters against same sex marriage
believe that it threatens the structure of society along with the institution of marriage itself. This

Why The Nationwide Legalization Of Same Sex Marriage Will Greatly Benefit The Economy
Same–sex marriage has been a long debated issue in the United States. Since the nationwide
legalization of same–sex marriage in countries such as Holland, Belgium, and Canada American gay
couples have been pushing harder for equal marriage rights under the law. Opponents claim that
allowing same–sex unions would not only lead to less stable marriages and higher divorce rates for
heterosexual couples, but also precipitate an economic crisis. Marriage is intended to be the
mechanism by which humans divide and pass on property; same–sex marriage disrupts the
traditional practice of passing property on to one's children. (Allen, 961) However, the breakdown in
the economic and social fabric opponents of same–sex marriage fear will not occur. Research shows
that same–sex unions greatly benefit the economy at several levels and in many ways. I believe that
legalizing same–sex marriage will boost the nations economy by tax revenues, adoption fess, and
increases in tourism.
The view that marriage is only intended for divorce is a pessimistic outlook. Legalizing same–sex
marriages nationwide will not only benefit gay couples through taxes and division of property, but
also it will boost the economy and open the wedding industry to the estimated 4 million homosexual
couples in America. Legalizing gay marriage will bring in $20 to $40 million more dollars per year
in taxes. This would boost the

Same-Sex Couples

  • 1. Same-Sex Couples Lindsey and Beth, a lesbian couple, have been living together for eleven years. Lindsey conceived two children from a sperm donor. Together, Lindsey and Beth turned their house into a loving home for their two children. One day, on the way home from the grocery store, Lindsey was killed in a tragic car accident. Before Beth could even grasp the situation, the children that she helped raise from birth had been taken away and placed into the care of Lindsey's parents, who never were a part of their lives because they did not accept Lindsey's homosexuality. In addition, the house that Beth and Lindsey lived in for eleven years was taken away from Beth. How did this happen to Beth? Well, if Lindsey and Beth could have been legally married ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to David Moats, "by the late 1980's an increasing number of lesbian couples around the country were having babies" (83). Rauch, validates Moats by saying, "Of the 594,000 same–sex couples counted by the Census Bureau in its 2000 survey of American households, 28 percent – just over a third of lesbian couples and just over a fifth of make couples – had children" (74). A major consequence of homosexual couples that engage in long–term relationships is the danger to children because children need the stability of married parents. In a heterosexual relationship, marriage laws protect children in case something happens to the parents such as death. If the mother dies in a traditional marriage, the father will have custody of the children, whereas in a homosexual relationship, the partner who may have raised the child from birth is not entitled to the protections and benefits that marriage brings. Thus, the child not only has to deal with the loss of the parent that died, but also the parent that does not have legal rights to gain custody. Rauch adds, "Everything we know about children suggests they do best in stable homes, and everything we know about homes suggests that marriage makes them more stable" (75). The security of a family greatly impacts the development of a child. The legal rights that marriage offers would protect homosexuals in their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. The Issue Of Same Sex Marriage There are many important ethical disputes that have been in the forefront of American politics within this last year. Same–sex marriage is a debatable topic that attracts many responses from those supporting and those opposing the issue. People who dispute gay marriage believe it is morally wrong, while gay rights activists believe that all marriages be treated equally. This dispute is put into several different lights including morals, family values and religion; and those of equality, constitutionality. Section 1: The first major law that affected same–sex marriage was the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). It was approved by Congress and signed into law by President Bill Clinton on September 21, 1996. DOMA defined that marriage was between a man and a woman at the federal level. It also gave states the right to reject recognition of same–sex marriages from other states. "DOMA mandates unequal treatment of legally married same–sex couples, selectively depriving them of the 1,138+ protections and responsibilities that marriage triggers at the federal level." (Freedom to Marry) At the time DOMA was passed, no states permitted gays and lesbians to marry. On June 26, 2013, in Windsor v. United States, "Justice Anthony Kennedy, speaking for the 5–4 majority, said DOMA was unconstitutional because it violated the right to liberty and to equal protection for gay couples." (Savage) When the ruling was declared, twelve states and the District of Columbia legally recognized ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Same Sex Marriage Supporters of gay marriage argue around the concept of equality in America. Our country is said to be found on the principle that all men are created equal, so that make it hypocritical to deny the rights of homosexuals, as it was hypocritical to deny freedom to African Americans or to prohibit women 's suffrage. Supporters also believe that Gays should be allows the same benefits as regular married couples. For instance, only through marriage do same sex couples have the rights to their partner 's insurance benefits, Social Security, Medicare, or property inheritance. Also, without a legally recognized marriage, gay partners cannot be acknowledged as next of kin in the case of a medical emergency or incapacitation. Denying someone their ... Obama administration has said that the law passed in 1996, on behalf of a group appointed by the Republican leaders in the U.S. House of Representatives was unconstitutional (Thomson Reuters 2012). So supporters ask questions that have not yet been answer these questions are; why shouldn't lesbian, gay or bisexual be free to get married in all states. Why should they have to go or move to one of the nines states or the District of Columbia to join each other hands in marriage? If we are the land of the free and equal right, how come we are taken the freedom of marriage away from gays? I strongly believe that we are going against everything our country I said to be based on. If we are the land of the free and for equal right same sex marriage should be allowed in every state. Just because some may have different beliefs than other, does not give us the rights to discriminate or deny right to gay just because they are different. At the end of the day they are still Americans citizens and should be treated and allowed the same befits as everyone else. Gays should be able to express who they really are, even though marriage. • 7. The Importance Of Same Sex Marriage Globalism and Nationalism play a huge part in our society today and they are required for the progression and development of the country. I think nationalism is important in the development of our country, but globalism is also needed to become a developed country, because without globalism, nationalism is not able to act, so both of them depend on each other. The same sex marriage issue is a contradicting viewpoint for both nationalists and globalists worldwide. Same sex couples should be treated like any other person and should not be denied anything an ordinary person would not. Same sex marriage has impacted many people in our society today, whether it being people disagreeing or agreeing with it. According to an article titled Countries Least Accepting Of Same Sex Marriage written by Kimutai Gilbert it says "The countries leading in legalizing same–sex marriage are western countries and countries of the Americas including the United Kingdom and the United States among others". Some of the other countries still oppose same sex marriage due to them thinking that it is unreligious, uncultured, and unacceptable. An example of this was in July 2012 when a gay couple asked a baker to create a wedding cake for a celebration of their marriage. Mr. Phillips told them that he could not design and bake a wedding cake for them because it would violate his Christian convictions. This couple was denied service, because of their sexual orientation which was an erroneous thing to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Same-sex Marriage Opponents Many Americans are opposed to same–sex marriage, while, at the same time, in support of civil unions (Dudley). Many same–sex marriage opponents disagree based solely on the use of the word "marriage." Those opponents to same–sex marriage feel that the term marriage is defined by societal norms or established by religious tradition and should be limited to only define a relationship between a man and a woman. Opponents to same–sex marriage based solely on the use of the word "marriage" point out that "from a lawful perspective, marriage and civil unions encompass the same benefits" (Smith). The argument over what to call same–sex marriage however fails to take into account the true nature of what members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) community seek and what opponents oppose. Members of the LGBT community seek full marriage equality in term and in accomplishment, not a separate but equal standing. We need to extend the debate beyond terminology and focus our attention towards the issue of why the LGBT community merits equal access to all rights, specifically marriage. One of the main arguments for same–sex marriage is the right to be a legal partner to a spouse. In most situations, current local, state, and federal law will find against the privileges of the non– marred companion to make medical decisions for their significant other. In marriage, when a spouse is injured or even killed, the law acknowledges the married spouse as the next of kin; ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Same-Sex Marriage Essay Just about everyone has an opinion on whether same–sex couples should be allowed to legally marry. The arguments range from personal beliefs to what marriage is said to be in the Bible. Why should a couple be forbidden from showing each other along with family and friends that they are fully committed to each other? What place is it for the government to say that said couple is not allowed to commit to the one who truly makes you happy? Why should these people who are willing to be together for better or worse, in sickness and health, for richer or poorer not get the respect, consideration, and benefits that any opposite sex couple are granted? The United States are behind the time as far as this subject is concerned. Other countries ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1996 President Bill Clinton signs the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) which allows states' rights to ban same–sex marriages and to refuse to recognize such marriages performed elsewhere. Alaska voters approved an amendment to ban same–sex marriages in 1998. Vermont was the first state to recognize civil unions between same–sex couples in 2000 while that same year Nebraska voted to ban these marriages. Nevada banned same–sex marriages in 2002. November of 2003 the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court ruled that banning same–sex couples from marrying violates the state's constitution and in turn makes gay and lesbian couples "second class citizens". In May of 2004 President Bush declared to support the federal constitutional amendment to ban same–sex marriages. By May of 2004 same–sex marriages became legal in Massachusetts. While by November of this year thirteen other states including Missouri, Louisiana, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Montana, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Utah all approved the banning of same–sex marriages. Other states began to follow the footsteps of Massachusetts legalizing civil unions as Connecticut did in October of 2005 while Kansas along with Texas followed the counterpart banning marriages that year. New Jersey in December of 2006 decided to legalize civil unions as Alabama, Idaho, Colorado, South Dakota, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and Wisconsin all voted to ban these unions. 2008 was a busy ... • 13. The Morality Of Same Sex Marriage The morality of same–sex marriage is a major controversial issue in the United States today. While Liberals believe that marriage should be the union of two people who love each other and that it should be legal for gay and lesbian individuals in order to ensure equal rights for all citizens, Conservatives believe that marriage is the union of one woman and one man only and that requiring citizens to sanction same–sex relationships violates moral and religious beliefs. Taking opposing viewpoints of this issue are both philosophers David Boonin and Jeff Jordan who discuss the public dilemma of same–sex marriage within their articles. Through the use of counterarguments to the premises made by Jeff Jordan, as well as by discussing various ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After providing a set of premises as to why one would hold the parity thesis– which states that homosexuality has the same moral status as heterosexuality– true; Jordan attacks these claims by objecting to the first premise which states that homosexual acts between consenting adults do not harm anyone, and the fourth which explains that discrimination against homosexuals removes individual freedom as it ignores personal choice and privacy [Jordan 2]. He states that these premises are only plausible when these acts are done in private, concluding that one should only be able to discriminate homosexual behavior if it is done in public. This premise is an assumption made by Jordan that unlike homosexual acts, people enjoy viewing heterosexual acts that are displayed publically. This premise assumes that the majority of society accepts viewing heterosexual behavior in public, but are uncomfortable with viewing public homosexual acts. To set up his argument in support of the Difference Thesis, Jordan creates a scenario in which one person believes that subject "X" is morally wrong but another person believes it is morally permissible, calling this conflict an "impasse" (Jordan 42). • 15. Same Sex Marriage Same sex marriage has been a topic on the rise throughout the U.S. It is what some of us may consider one of the more important topics of discussion for this time period. So far 17 states out of 50 have declared same sex marriage legal (States, 2013). Same sex marriage should be legal throughout the U.S. because same sex couples have a civil right to get married, along with a right to have access to the same benefits as heterosexual couples, and to be treated as equals without fear of discrimination. Same sex marriage is a civil right. In 1958 a couple named Richard and Mildred Loving were arrested in their home for interracial marriage in Virginia, which happened to be illegal at the time. They received a 1–year jail sentence, which was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In February 2004 the Massachusetts Supreme Court wrote an opinion to the state Senate stating that having civil unions instead of marriages wasn't acceptable because allowing same sex couples to have a civil union, but not allowing them to be married, makes gay couples seem as if they were considered as second class status (Gay Marriage Legal, n.d.). As a matter of fact the Arizona Governor Jan Brewer vetoed a bill recently, which would have allowed business owners the right to refuse service to gay couples based on religion (Santos, 2014). However, as discussed in class during one of the presentations, how would you differentiate between who is doing it for religious purposes and who is doing it because they discriminate against same sex couples? Chuck Coughlin, a public affairs consultant who worked with the Governor of Arizona and her team when she was elected, said in regards to this bill that, "We already have laws to sufficiently protect peoples religious freedom in this country and this bill could actually empower people to discriminate" (Santos, 2014). On the other side many people claim that it has nothing to do with discrimination and everything to do with religion. For example, the people who say they want to use the Arizona bill for their own religious purposes. Many people believe in what the Bible says. • 17. Same-Sex Marriage Argument Same–Sex Marriage Argument Sarah Springstube PHI103 Informal Logic Instructor DeFusco August 4, 2014 Same–sex marriage has been an issue among society for many years. Not all people understand there is no ban on same sex–marriage nor is it illegal. In all fifty states there are couples of the same sex who live together, ones who choose their professional job to be in a workplace where joint benefits are offered, and ones who choose a religious community which accepts their relationship. Those who believe this is an issue and feel it should be illegal were likely raised to believe it is wrong to marry someone of the same gender. Whether these people in society were raised by what their religion believes or what their families have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Anyone could sit and debate this issue all day long, but understanding the reality of the situation is another story. Everyone's reality is different and everyone's perspective on same–sex marriage is different. If society came together as a whole and realized that any person who is categorized as "gay" has the same opportunities in life that anyone else has. They cannot help that they are gay, they were born that way. Being who you are is especially important in order to feel accepted as a person. Without the support of society and the government same–sex marriages will bring a new chapter into each and every state. It is up to the individuals in society to accept one not because of their sexual orientation but be accepted for who they are as an individual. Listening to others debate this issue is interesting and the feedback one encounters could make feelings change or become real. References Anderson, Ryan, T. • 19. Legalization of Same-Sex Marriages In our time the traditional viewpoint that we have previously exerted in relationship to the definition of a family is being challenged more than ever before. Regardless of whether or not that is through grandparents raising children, foster children and adopted children being raised in families, single parenting, interracial couples, etc. One of the most talked about issues of our time is the legality of same sex union/marriages. The standpoint that many take on this issue is one rooted very deeply in traditions and personal beliefs. There is a constant conflict of opinions. However, research consistently that relationships between families are tied together based off of the quality of the relationship and child outcomes compared to the sexual orientation of the parents. In every individual, there are desires that are present to someday include a child into your life. Whether that be at a young or old age, you are given the right to bear children into their world whenever you so wish as long as your circumstances are right. For those that identify as being gay/lesbian they do not have that choice. However even those who are involved in same sex relationships ultimately have the desire to have children. Whether it be through adoption, artificial insemination, surrogate moms, or fostering children they can become parents. For some individuals, they have children from previous heterosexual relationships as they felt the need to cover up for their true identity or maybe even ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The agency where I work advocates this practice, which requires yearly training videos to ensure everyone understands the rules of the practice. Although our society bends the laws to support this practice, I will argue that government laws do not hold true to God's law or even the law of nature. Additionally, I will argue that marriage, by natural law, is designed for procreating purposes. When someone thinks of marriage, it is two people, man, and woman, that have fallen in love, went through the ceremony, have children, and the circle of life begins. "Marriage has 'a specific orientation to having children. The first of Augustine's 'three goods' of marriage – children – would be inapplicable to covenant partnerships: the second and third goods – faithfulness and the 'bond of permanence' – would very much apply. But marriage has been re–ordered by the resurrection of Christ," shares Thatcher. In contrast, the argument for same–sex marriage is that it is just like civil rights of that African– Americans. The civil rights movement and civil rights for African–Americans are nowhere near the same or in comparison to a social agenda pushed by those for same–sex marriages. Same Sex Marriage 11/8/06 Argument Essay Same–Sex Marriage: Not a Match for Society Marriage, as defined by Merriam–Webster, is "the legal relationship into which a man and a woman enter with purpose of making a home and raising a family" (358).Although most people in the United States, including myself, agree on that definition, there are a select few who do not. Some feel same–sex marriage should be legalized; I disagree! I disagree because of its effects on children, its unnaturalness, and its religious immorality. They are civil unions, domestic partnerships and same–sex marriage. In most cases, civil unions and domestic partnership laws only offer a fraction of the 1,049 benefits the United States government provides for couples in a heterosexual marriage. Nobody, not even the government, should be able to take that kind of happiness and freedom away from someone. If a girl loves another girl or a guy loves another guy, it should not matter to anyone else as long as they are happy together. "We are all equals in the world whether we are Black, White, Hispanic, Indian, or any other race for that matter. Why should we not be equals based on sexuality orientation" (Gay Marriage Pros and Cons)? Everyone deserves to have the same equal rights. Everyone has different beliefs and nothing can or will change that. Some people believe in same– sex marriage and some people do not, but there is still no reason to dislike or judge people that believe in something someone else does not believe in. Not everyone in the world has the same beliefs. That is life, it happens. So what is the point of being so against this one belief? Same sex couples do not walk around bashing on straight people for the person they love, so why can't all straight couples do the same thing and not bash on same sex couples? Not only is this situation against some people's beliefs, but it also is against the constitution. In relation to Lewis and Gossett's research, their research aligns in their claim that people "born in each decade tend to be more accepting of gay relationships and more willing to grant them legal recognition than those born the decade before" (Lewis and Gossett). • 35. The Legalization Of Same Sex Marriage THE CONTENTION Introduction Legalization of same sex marriage in the USA and abroad is and will always remain a disgrace and an abomination to God's word. Same sex marriage is identified as two of the same sex coming together in matrimony with the same legal representation that a couple of the opposite sex would have. Before the Supreme Court Ruling in 2015, 39 of the 50 states of the United States of America were already supporting and legally allowing same sex marriages. Although many may have their own preconception of what marriage is the bible tells us that marriage is a covenant between a man and a woman and not that of a man and a man, or a woman and a woman. (Leviticus 20:13) says "If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death. Their bloodguiltiness is upon them." Confirmation In May of 2004 Massachusetts became the first state to issue a marriage license to same sex couples. After the Supreme Court Ruled that same sex marriages were legal across the United States of America four states, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Texas, and Utah took immediate action passing a law that would exempt religious officials from having to perform same sex marriages which would interfere with their own religious beliefs. In terms of legal recognition and acknowledgement, the majority of states, authorities, and jurisdiction limit marriage to opposite sex couples or two persons of opposite gender. Same sex marriage would weaken the definition and respect for the institution of marriage. When discussing same sex marriage, the true meaning and definition of marriage is the topic that often comes up, which is why it is very significant to remember the true importance of marriage. I strongly believe that same sex marriage should not be legalized because it would harm many individuals. If same sex marriage is legalized, the birth rates would decrease, fewer children would be raised by an opposite married parents, and medical insurance costs/charges would rise. Legalizing same sex marriage would cause the birth rates to decrease. One of the most basic tasks or responsibilities of any human society is to reproduce. The Issue Of Same Sex Marriage The outline of the articles is to highlight the important factors which exist in the research of studies focusing on same–sex and heterosexual couples and the challenges they experience with bringing up children. The main focus of the articles is to draw on the conclusion on same–sex couples. When dealing with families of same sex marriages you must put into consideration how families are the same and different from traditional families. The main point is to offer concrete evidence as a powerful influence for inquiries raised by women's activist and scholars who have contended that the sanctioning of same–sex marriages will fortify the heteronormative establishment of conventional marriage (Lannutti, 2005). Thereafter, President Obama apologized to Janice and informed her of the Presidential Memorandum that was previously signed, which is the extension of benefits to same–sex domestic partners. With that being said, same sex couples should be issued the same benefits as heterosexual couples. Same sex couples can also produce financial gain for both local and state governments because of the generation of tax revenue. This allows the economy to benefit from the legalization of same–sex marriage. According to Jerome Nathaniel (2012), since same–sex marriages were legalized in New York, anywhere from 7,200 to 8,200 gay couples have gotten married in the city; the marriages have brokered in 200,000 out–of–towners, $259 million in economic activity and $16 million in taxes. Even though same–sex marriage should be an equal right, the impact same–sex marriage will make on the economy is significant, which is more than enough reason to legalize it. • 64. Same-Sex Marriage When most people think of the United States, they have a vision of an "All American Family". This included a family who owned a large home with a white fence. Inside you would find a flawless housewife, a hard working husband who puts bread on the table, and perfectly groomed caucasian children who can do no harm. Over time, this image has been altered a bit. The children may have darkened a bit and may have no longer been caucasian because of laws passing interracial marriages around the 20th century due to Loving V. Virginia (Melina Patria). By the 1960s, the women's rights movement was in full motion switching male and female roles drastically(Human right's watch). The home may have no longer been spacious and big with the stock ... The Amendment states "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." (Nara). Note, the first sentence says Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion. Banning same sex marriage because of religious views, would be a violation of the first amendment, or at least that is interpreted. Would the Bible merely be an interpretation? Homosexuals know that society frowns upon them harshly, with this knowledge, how would homosexuals be able to grow as people when they constantly have to hide themselves? As Macklemore said in his song Same Love "I would think Hip Hop hates me. Have you read the youtube comments lately?". Social media is playing a drastic role on what society views as "normal". As mentioned before, Sally Ride was in the public eye much of the time, however she was not advertising her orientation. Her relationship was put off to the side because at that time, astronauts were not meant to be homosexual. They were meant to be part of that All American Family as explained before. The media hid small details that could have interfered with Sally's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 66. Same Sex Marriage In Australia Same sex marriage within Australia is a highly contentious topical issue that has seen increasing importance over the past decade. People of the LGBTI community have faced great discrimination in the past with homosexuality being illegal and frowned upon from as early as 1901. South Australia legalised homosexual acts in 1975 with many other states following over the years. Same sex couples are now recognised in today's society with them being classed as de facto relationships. While same–sex marriage has not yet been legalised, recent movements including the national postal survey, has seen great support for change. Moral and political values have been central to many of the arguments surrounding the issue including religious views and political responsibilities. Many religions see same–sex marriage/homosexuality as incompatible and therefore do not permit their support of legislation to legalise same–sex marriage. However many religious institutions such as churches have expressed their support for equal marriage rights. Political values that come into the argument are that same sex marriage is preventing people from having religious freedom and freedom of speech. This has been expressed throughout the campaign as many religious institutions think that their religious freedom is being denied, as they will have to hold same–sex couples wedding ceremonies. People also think that they have been silenced throughout the 'yes' campaign. Rights and responsibilities on the issue ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 68. The Issue Of Same Sex Marriage Equality of Love What does love mean if one can't love the person one wants. For some, love comes easy , meaning they have that ideal relationship, the relationship that is "morally right". When speaking on gay marriage, there are typically two views. To some it is just absouletly disgusting, and then to others it's a beautiful thing. " Opponents of Same Sex Marriage say marriage is between a man and a woman and anything else is morally wrong( "At Issue : Same Sex Marriage") As a human being , whose right is it to tell someone who they can and can not love. Sometimes people may disagree with gay marriage on a spiritual level, but who is to say one person's sin is less then the next person's sin? Gay marriage is a beautiful thing, and any human should have their rights no matter who they love. As a human, one deserves to be happy. For many homosexual couples, that may not be the case. With the issues of , same sex marriage, LBGT rights, and gay adoption in general all humans should be able to enjoy the same rights. Marriage is a unity between two people. It may be a hetertosexual couple or it may be a homosexual couple , that choice should be left up to the two people who decided to join in unity. They argue that allowing homosexual couples will destroy the sanitity of marriage ( "At Issue : Same Sex Marriage"). No one has the right to tell somebody who they can and can not marry when two people decided to get married they establish a bond between each other that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 70. Same Sex Marriage Should Be Legalized . The Same Sex Marriage Same sex marriage should be legalized The same sex marriage has been widely debated in many countries for a long time. It is an important issue because it concerns basic moral and human rights. People all over the world come to the United States in search of freedom and equality. Being able to marry anyone, no matter the gender, is a freedom of right, but if that freedom of right is taken away from people than there is no equality. Homosexual people in the United States are people that deserve freedom and equality and taking away their right to marriage is taking away their equality with the rest of Americans. Even though certain religions are against same sex marriage, same sex ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Writing for the majority, Justice Anthony Kennedy states that "no union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family." Kennedy goes on to say that gay and lesbian couples "ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law. The Constitution grants them that right." ( Nasci1). I think this amendment protects the rights of homosexuals. Same sex marriage should be legal because all individuals have the same right in society; same–sex couples can constitute a good based family. It is just a way to make official a common union nowadays, even there are religious issue; because it is not related to polygamy; and because love matters and it does not differ in nature according to the sex of its object or the person who experiences it. Prior to the U.S. Supreme Court ruling, same sex marriage is only legal in some states.

I think same sex marriage should be legal. The state should not say anything about agreeing to an adult 's way of life. If two people love each other and want to get married, regardless of their partner 's color, religion, nationality or gender, they should be allowed to do so love and marriage should be purely a personal choice. • 73. Same-Sex Marriage Same–Sex Marriage: The Problems with DOMA and the Pursuit for Equality Believe it or not, same–sex marriage has been around since ancient times. At least two Roman Emperors, Nero and Elagabalus, were in gay unions. It wasn't until the advent of Christianity that the practice of same sex marriage was out–lawed by the emperors Constantius II and Constans in 342 AD and has continued to be through–out most of the world until the twenty–first century (Boswell 83). With the advent of gay rights movement in many industrialized countries, same–sex marriage has become more accepted. A prime example of this is what lawmakers in the state of New York did on June 24, 2011. With a thirty–three to twenty–nine vote, the legislature legalized ... • 75. The Legalization Of Same Sex Marriage Anthony J. Cavataio PHL 118: Intro to Philosophy 8/14/14 Gary Fuller One of the most heated and debated topics today is the legalization of same–sex marriage. No matter where you look, people are always expressing their opinion on this issue. Politicians, athletes, and celebrities are some of the many people who continually come out with either support or opposition of same–sex marriage. History has shown that issues regarding equality and rights take time to move forward. The women's suffrage movement and the civil rights movement are both prime examples of the effort and time it takes for movements to become accepted by everyone in the general public. These movements involve many of the same dynamics that make up the push for the legalization of same–sex marriage. People come together and have parades or demonstrations, public figures make their opinions known, and slowly but surely the government enforces change. Today, there are many factors that go into the debate of legalizing same–sex marriage. The debate expands much farther beyond the idea of whether or not same–sex marriage is morally right or wrong. This decision includes reevaluating previous ideas of what traditional marriage is, involves instituting new laws, and changing part of the public's opinion on the idea of same–sex marriage itself. As with all issues that are faced by people, there many are pros and cons that need to be considered before making the big decisions of legalizing same–sex marriage. ... • 77. Same Sex Marriage "Marriage is a coming together for better or for worse, hopefully enduring, and intimate to the degree of being sacred. It is an association that promotes a way of life, not causes; a harmony in living, not political faiths; a bilateral loyalty, not commercial or social projects." (U.S. Supreme Court). Marriage has been defined as a religious & legal commitment between a man and woman, as well as an expression of love. Homosexuals have not been allowed to partake in these commitments and the rising support for same sex marriage is becoming more of an issue for the government and voters. There are those that are against same sex marriage, who believe that marriage should be strictly between a man and a woman (Barber), and then there are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is the main reason we have a Bill of Rights as well as anti–slavery and equal protection amendments. Quindlen believes that denying marriage to a homosexual couple is no different than denying marriage to black couples. "I was raised by two homosexuals. I was surrounded by homosexuals... but they did not influence me" (quote in article) this is the argument that many homosexuals make. Homosexuality to them is not a life choice that they can just choose to be they see being gay as what is biologically encoded into their brains. By making this case this becomes more about civil rights because now it can be interperated as being in the same category as being a certain race. Being the minority, Quindlen also argues that people are opposed of the idea of gay marriage because it is not what a traditional marriage is seen as. When we think of a marriage we think of the "traditional" wedding flowers, dresses, bridesmaids, rings, tuxedos, and grooms men. Supporters against same sex marriage only see this traditional marriage between a man and a woman. This aspect is what many supporters focus on. The legitimacy of a marriage is lost when it becomes between two individuals that are of the same sex. Supporters against same sex marriage believe that it threatens the structure of society along with the institution of marriage itself. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 79. Legalization Of Same Sex Marriage Why The Nationwide Legalization Of Same Sex Marriage Will Greatly Benefit The Economy Same–sex marriage has been a long debated issue in the United States. Since the nationwide legalization of same–sex marriage in countries such as Holland, Belgium, and Canada American gay couples have been pushing harder for equal marriage rights under the law. Opponents claim that allowing same–sex unions would not only lead to less stable marriages and higher divorce rates for heterosexual couples, but also precipitate an economic crisis. Marriage is intended to be the mechanism by which humans divide and pass on property; same–sex marriage disrupts the traditional practice of passing property on to one's children. (Allen, 961) However, the breakdown in the economic and social fabric opponents of same–sex marriage fear will not occur. Research shows that same–sex unions greatly benefit the economy at several levels and in many ways. I believe that legalizing same–sex marriage will boost the nations economy by tax revenues, adoption fess, and increases in tourism. The view that marriage is only intended for divorce is a pessimistic outlook. Legalizing same–sex marriages nationwide will not only benefit gay couples through taxes and division of property, but also it will boost the economy and open the wedding industry to the estimated 4 million homosexual couples in America. Legalizing gay marriage will bring in $20 to $40 million more dollars per year in taxes. This would boost the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
