The UN has frames the new goals as ‘transformational’ but is this correct… or, are the SDGs merely another smaller scale, episodic advance?
In this lecture Professor Hulme assess the evidence and analyses the processes underpinning the MDGs to SDGs shift.

future generations. This paper thus employs a critical literature review on the current trend on sustainability
and mass housing in order to seek the possibility on how mass housing could help in addressing some of the 17

greatly influence sustainability. Sustainability is a concept which brings together a housing environment which

The quest of every nation state is to attract, sustain and fast-track growth and development in all ramifications. The Nigerian state between 1960 and 2020 has experienced an unabated expansion of universities. Ironically, the war against illiteracy is yet to be won, despite the experimentation of different western developmental ideologies in the Nigerian educational system. The study examined the contributions of development administration in the Nigerian educational sector as well as ascertained if the current neo-liberal reform has aided the expansion or retrogression of the educational sector most especially, the university sub-sector in Nigeria. The theoretical framework of the study was anchored on the post-colonial Nigerian state theory. Methodologically, the study strictly utilized the documentary method and data were sourced through the secondary sources and analyzed in content. The study found that the experimentation of western development ideologies in Nigeria actually aided the expansion of the universities but undermined the realization of free, quality and accessible university education for all and sundry. The study recommended among others: the applications of the action plan of Professor Okonjo as regards creating a universal tertiary education for all Nigerians and sustainably financing it.

Over many years, developing countries have shown apathy toward higher education development and reduced public investment in it. This has allowed market forces to play a larger role in higher education, but since markets in developing nations are incomplete, the outcomes have been imperfect and sometimes disastrous. While international organizations like the World Bank once discouraged higher education expansion, views have shifted to recognize its importance. However, developing country governments continue neglecting higher education, reflected in disinvestment and growth of private provision. Gross enrollment ratios remain much lower in developing regions than developed ones.
Understanding Social development
Social development is defined as a holistic and systematic approach to promoting individual and societal well-being through planned social change and economic development. It emerged in the 1920s through the work of L.T. Hobhouse and gained popularity under British colonial rule in Africa in the 1940s through mass literacy and community development programs. Since the 1940s, approaches to social development have included enterprise strategies emphasizing private initiatives, statist strategies involving centralized government planning and administration, and communitarian strategies focusing on local community participation. More recently, microcredit and microfinance initiatives exemplify a balanced approach incorporating free markets, government support, and grassroots participation to alleviate poverty and promote peace.
