1) Salah Din Ayubi was a warrior who lived in Damascus with his uncle Nur Din Zangi and was trained to fight from an early age. 2) He went on to conquer Egypt and territories from Egypt to Syria, defeating Sultan's armies and capturing parts of Palestine by 1177. 3) As a leader, he was known for his courage, forgiving enemies, and advising against killing captured kings, though he did order the killing of 4000 people in the city of Aqa. He died in 1193 after a successful but turbulent career expanding his territories through military victories.

Rabbi Garry Wayland has prepared this lovely presentation using the Simpsons to tell the Story of Purim. Ideal to use alongside a Megillah reading or when teaching Purim in school.
Judith
Judith was a widow living in Bethulia during a time when the land of Judea was threatened by the large Assyrian army led by Holofernes. The Assyrians cut off the water supply to Bethulia, putting the people in despair. Judith devised a plan to deceive Holofernes and save her people. She went to the Assyrian camp and convinced Holofernes of her loyalty, gaining his trust over several days. On the fourth day, when Holofernes was intoxicated, Judith beheaded him and brought his head back to Bethulia, causing the Assyrian army to flee in fear and saving Judea. Judith exemplified wisdom

The poem discusses the rise of Kublai Khan and the Mongolian Empire. It describes the fear of barbarian invaders destroying villages. However, it is rumored that the new leader, Kublai Khan, is different and not a "barbarian" like previous leaders. The poem expresses hope that under Kublai Khan's rule, the empire will invest in its people and not destroy villages. However, in the end, because Kublai Khan adopted Chinese culture and weakened the empire, the Chinese were able to overthrow the Mongolian Empire.

Makom's Illuminated Megillah - Purim 2013
There is a long history of Jewish artists creating illuminated manuscripts - sacred texts beautified and interpreted through images drawn on or around the texts. Before Purim 2013, Makom community members of all ages were invited to explore Megillat Esther (the scroll of Esther) and then paint their own figurative or abstract visual depiction of the theme or scene of their choice. The art was digitally scanned and the images projected ("illuminated") very large on the east wall of the Kiever Synagogue during the corresponding parts of megillah reading on Purim, creating our community’s own live- performance, illuminated megillah. The aftermath of Karbala was one of suffering for the family of Imam Hussein (as). Umar Ibn Saad ordered the burning of tents and looting of possessions. Women and children ran between tents seeking protection. Imam Sajjad was very ill but rescued from the burning tents by Bibi Zainab (as). That night the family slept with no shelter in the cold. In Kufa, Ibn Ziyad celebrated falsely claiming rebels were captured, but Bibi Zainab (as) informed the people of the true tragedy of Karbala. The family was then forced to make the long difficult journey to Damascus in chains with little food or water, arriving on 1st

Handeling Christmas: The Light
In both Isaiah 9:1-3 and Isaiah 60:1-3, the prophet Isaiah describes how, in the previous generation, the Galilee region became a dark place. When God allowed the Assyrians to invade and subjugate the northern Kingdom of Israel, the first ferocious attack fell upon Galilee. In chapter 60 Isaiah prophesies that the place first darkened by the Assyrian conquest would be the first region where God’s light would rise and God’s glory would be seen. In His gospel, the apostle John makes it clear that Jesus is that light that shines in the darkness – a light which darkness cannot overcome. And in his first epistle, John connects the dots to us – that we are called to walk in the light of Christ.

1. The story is about Prince Bantugan, who was beloved by the people but envied by his brother, the King of Bumbaran.
2. When Bantugan returned from successfully defending the kingdom in battle, the king had commanded that no one speak to Bantugan. Sad and alone, Bantugan decided to leave.
3. Bantugan traveled until he collapsed at the gates of the Kingdom-Between-Two-Seas, where he died. The kind king and princess took in his body. Bantugan's parrot revealed his identity and his soul was returned to his body.

This activism has led to the cessation of student encampments but also highlighted the substantial sacrifices made by students, including academic disruptions and personal risks. The primary drivers of these protests are poor university administration, lack of transparency, and inadequate communication between officials and students. This study examines the profound emotional, psychological, and professional impacts on students engaged in pro-Palestine protests, focusing on Generation Z's (Gen-Z) activism dynamics. This paper explores the significant sacrifices made by these students and even the professors supporting the pro-Palestine movement, with a focus on recent global movements. Through an in-depth analysis of printed and electronic media, the study examines the impacts of these sacrifices on the academic and personal lives of those involved. The paper highlights examples from various universities, demonstrating student activism's long-term and short-term effects, including disciplinary actions, social backlash, and career implications. The researchers also explore the broader implications of student sacrifices. The findings reveal that these sacrifices are driven by a profound commitment to justice and human rights, and are influenced by the increasing availability of information, peer interactions, and personal convictions. The study also discusses the broader implications of this activism, comparing it to historical precedents and assessing its potential to influence policy and public opinion.
