Like Alexander or Caesar, the name of
Saladin carries a timeless quality. As
famous today as he was when he drove the
Crusaders out of Jerusalem, the historical
Saladin has dissolved into legend with each
generation's retelling of his story. Dante
placed him in the first circle of Hell with
the heroes of Troy and Rome; Rex Harrison
played him as a cad in the film King
Richard and the Crusaders. In Youssef
Chahine's epic film Saladin, he emerged as
a hero of Arab socialism, and he has even
made an appearance in an episode of
Dr Who. Today, Saladin's name continues
to resonate with Osama bin Laden, Saddam
Hussein and Colonel Gaddafi all, at one
stage, claiming to be his military and
spiritual heir.
But who was the real Saladin? To answer
this question, A. R. Azzam argues, it is
essential to appreciate the age Saladin lived
in. The Islamic world had been completely
transformed by the Sunni Revival in the 10th
and 11th centuries, the great intellectual
renaissance, which integrated the different
strands of Islamic thought under one
orthodox umbrella. Saladin was a child of
the Sunni Revival and the movement was
key to his extraordinary success - as it is to
any consideration of the background of
today's Middle East. In that sense, Saladin's
true greatness, Azzam contends, lay not on
the battlefield, as has commonly been
accepted, but in his spiritual and political
vision. An honest and guileless leader,
Saladin baffled his enemies by refusing to
play their political games and succeeded in
uniting an army from all parts of the Muslim
world. Although he was an outsider he
managed - almost seamlessly - to become
the most powerful man in Islam.
The first major biography of Saladin for
twenty years, A. R. Azzam's timely and
fascinating account is essential reading for
anyone interested in the medieval Crusades,
Islamic history and the origins of the
modern Middle East.
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

13. KINGDOM OF HEAVEN; CHOSEN PLOTS
1st Plot
Guy and his ally, Raynald of Châtillon, attack a Saracen caravan with the
aid of the Templars. This triggers Salahuddin, leader of the Muslim forces to
invade the Christian Kingdom as they had broken the terms of peace given by the
Muslims. The King and Tiberias sent words to Balian to march his knights to
Kerak to hold off Saladin’s army. Balian and his army were out numbered; they
charged Saladin's front cavalry, giving some time for the villagers to flee. A fierce,
but one-sided battle ensues in which Balian and his surviving knights were
captured. During the captive, Balian encountered the servant he freed, Imad ad-
Din. He learned that Imad is actually Saladin's chancellor. Imad ad-Din releases
Balian to enter Kerak, in repayment of the debt he owes to Balian, he freed him,
but warned Balian beforehand that he might get killed as Saladin’s troop arrives
to besiege Kerak. At the same time; King Baldwin IV also arrives from Jerusalem
with his army of Christians. Both party negotiated and agreed to keep peace
between them. Baldwin swore to Salahuddin that Reynald will be punished and
so he was. Under the order of the King Himself, Reynald was beaten and prisoned
in his own castle.
14. 2nd Plot
After the death of the King of Jerusalem, Guy de Lusignan was appointed
as the new King of Jerusalem as the nephew died. Guy, as the new King of
Jerusalem; Guy releases Raynald, asking him to give him a war. Raynald fulfilled
Guy’s wish by murdering Salahuddin's sister and slaughtered all Muslims in
Jerusalem. Out of kindness, Salahuddin sent emissary relays to demands for the
return of his sister's body and the heads of those responsible for the mass
murder and to surrender Jerusalem. Guy reacted by killing one of the emissary.
He decapitated his head and sent it back to Damascus as sign of rebellion against
Saladin’s demand. Guy sends three Templars to assassinate Balian however he
survived the assassination. Balian marched to Jerusalem with his knights to give
his voice of opinion in the war council.
3rd plot
In council, Guy and the Templars are finally free to make war. Tiberias
and Balian denied Guy request and stayed in Jerusalem, not giving full support to
Guy’s decision. Despite the advice given by Bailin they march into the desert to
fight Saladin without any source of water, leaving Jerusalem unguarded.
15. Saladin's army attacks the Crusaders and they were annihilated. Guy and
Raynald were captured. Saladin executes Raynald and then marches to
Jerusalem, sparing Guy as he was the king of Jerusalem. Tiberias and his men
leave for Cyprus, believing Jerusalem is lost, but Balian and his knights remain to
protect the villagers. Knowing they cannot defeat the Saracens, they hope to hold
their enemies off long enough for the Saracens to offer terms. However, Balian
and Saladin didn’t see eye to eye. Saladin was out for blood in revenge for his
sister. His trop attacked the capitol for days. Balian was proven a smart leader;
he managed to hold them off for at least 3 days. Saladin too was amazed by his
wisdom in war. However, in the end, the Saracens managed to run down the fort
and enters Jerusalem. Balian yielded; he threatens to burn down city, the
mosques, the church and all that makes Jerusalem precious. His threat was to
extend of killing everyone. Saladin smiled and said otherwise as it is not a way of
Islam teaching to kill any harmless war survivor. He promised in the name of
God himself that everyone will be save and no more killing. Balian was shocked.
With the words given by Saladin, Balian then surrender, as it was the best
choices of all. They came to a term and peace was upon them.

20. REFLECTION
First of all what we learnt is time management. With all of our 6 members
in the group which have different schedule, we managed to sit down and
discussed about the time we needed to do our paper dolls, props, costumes and
finally shooting the scenes. Next is teamwork. The assignment was quite a heavy,
but we managed to do it with ease when the group leader, Akmal Jamal,
distributed the tasks to each member. Adibah, Hafizi and Azzam were assigned
to do the paper dolls and costumes. They went out to search for various types of
materials such as felt, satin and many more whereas for Akmal, Nadine and Afif,
they were told to do the props. Most of our props were made of cardboard. This
is because cardboard is abundant at our homes and it is very easy to be shaped.
Last but not least we learnt about the history of our movie which took place in
the Byzantine era. We learnt about the culture and social stratification of the
Byzantine empire which was social hierarchy. The Byzantine Empire had three
different levels of society. The upper class, the middle class, and the lower class
people each with their own skills, and the emperor is at the top. We also learnt
about the architecture during that era such as mosaic and many more.
