Dr. Scott Bowman created a wiki project for his juvenile justice course to address common student misconceptions and promote a more accurate understanding of factors influencing juvenile involvement in the justice system. Students were assigned zip codes and socioeconomic variables, then researched available juvenile services and issues in their area. Throughout the semester, wiki assignments correlated to textbook chapters and enhanced classroom discussion. The project improved communication, collaboration, and writing compared to previous versions that relied more on traditional lectures and research papers. A survey found the wiki project was an effective teaching method.
