1) The document provides background on Paul's letter to the Romans. It discusses Paul's relationship to the church in Rome and his desire to visit them.
2) It explains that Paul wrote the letter from Corinth in around 58 AD to warn the Romans about apostasy and to spread the gospel to new areas.
3) The document also summarizes Paul's journey to Rome after being arrested in Jerusalem and spending two years in Caesarea before finally arriving in Rome under guard.
1st week study of Apostle Paul's letter to the Roman church's. The letter is written 56 a.d. and delivered by deaconess Phoebe, while Paul was in Corinth. He had at this time never been to Rome. Paul's plan was to go to Jerusalem then Rome to set up a base and share the gospel "good news" in Spain. However he did make it to Rome, a prisoner to be tried in court in Rome, not according to his plans. These slides cover Romans 1:1-17 which establish his authority and lay the case for what the christian churches were struggling with as Jews and Gentiles were worshipping together; but with different understandings of Christ's message.

The Book of Joshua is the sixth book in the Hebrew Bible and the Old Testament, and is the first book of the Deuteronomistic history, the story of Israel from the conquest of Canaan to the Babylonian exile.
In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…

Sabbath school lesson 1, 4th quarter of 2017
1. Lesson 1 for October 7, 2017
Adapted From www.fustero.es

Romans 1:8
“First, I thank my God through Jesus
Christ for you all, that your faith is
spoken of throughout the whole world.”
2. Paul and Rome.
1. Paul’s letter to the Romans.
2. Paul’s desire to visit Rome.
3. Paul in Rome.
The Church in Rome.
1. Called to be saints.
2. The believers in Rome.
This quarter we’re
studying the book
of Romans. First,
it’s good to know
how Paul–the
author–related to
the Christians
living in the most
important city of
that time.
Thanks to the letter
of Paul, we’ll also
learn how the
believers in Rome
lived and behaved.
3. PAUL’S LETTER TO THE ROMANS
“But now I am going to Jerusalem to minister to the saints. For it pleased
those from Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution for the
poor among the saints who are in Jerusalem.” (Romans 15:25-26)
Paul delivered that offering to Jerusalem after
his third missionary trip.
That suggests Paul’s letter to the Romans was
written during the first months of year 58 AD
during his stay in Corinth.
Why was Paul moved to write this letter?
Paul heard news about the apostasy of the
Galatians who had embraced salvation by
works, so he wrote them a harsh letter.
He also wanted to warn the Rome so they could
avoid that mistake.
4. PAUL’S DESIRE TO VISIT ROME
“whenever I journey to Spain, I shall come to you. For I hope to see you on my
journey, and to be helped on my way there by you, if first I may enjoy your
company for a while.” (Romans 15:24)
According to Romans 15, why couldn’t Paul visit Rome
right then?
He wanted to spread the Gospel where no
churches were planted yet (v. 20-22).
He had to deliver some offerings from Macedonia
and Achaia to Jerusalem (v. 15:25-28).
Then Paul planned to go to Spain and
visit Rome in his way there (v. 28).
He hoped he could be a blessing for
the Romans, and he expected them
to help him with his work in Spain (v.
24). That way the Romans could bless
others too.

5. PAUL IN
ROME
“But the following night the Lord stood by him and
said, ‘Be of good cheer, Paul; for as you have
testified for Me in Jerusalem, so you must also bear
witness at Rome.’” (Acts 23:11)
Paul arrived in Rome after visiting
Jerusalem, but not the way he had planned.
He was arrested while visiting the Temple.
He was accused of bringing Gentiles to the
atrium.
Paul was moved to Caesarea and he remained
safe there for two years. Then he was moved
to Rome because he had appealed to Caesar.
Some brothers warmly welcomed him to Rome. He
lived guarded in a rented house for two years
before being finally judged and liberated.
There he could freely preach to Jews and Gentiles
(Acts 28:11-31).
7. CALLED TO BE SAINTS
“To all who are in Rome, beloved of God, called to be
saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father
and the Lord Jesus Christ.” (Romans 1:7)
Those greetings were written to the believers in
Rome, but they also apply to us. Paul said we are:
Beloved of God
• God especially loves those who
answer to His love.
Called to be saints
• We are set apart from the
world and consecrated to God
because we accepted Christ
and we were baptized.
God loves everyone and has chosen everyone to be saved. Nevertheless, only those
who accept salvation will receive it (Ephesians 1:4; Hebrews 2:9; 2 Peter 3:9).
8. THE BELIEVERS IN ROME
“Now I myself am confident concerning you, my brethren,
that you also are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge,
able also to admonish one another.” (Romans 15:14)
We don’t know how the church in Rome was planted, but we know it was a strong
church. Paul told them: “your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world.”
(Romans 1:8) Paul praised the Romans’ faith and three other things:
They were full
of goodness
• The way they
lived testified
to God’s love.
They were filled
with knowledge
• They were
rooted to the
Bible.
They were able to
admonish one
another
• They could
encourage one
another and be
encouraged by
others.
