The sugar agroindustry in Guatemala plays an important role in the national economy. It produces renewable electricity from sugarcane biomass that covers 32% of the country's electricity demand. It has also implemented more sustainable practices that have reduced water consumption and ensured rational water use. The industry generates over 50,000 direct jobs and supports hundreds of thousands more indirect jobs and families. It is also a major exporter, responsible for 6.5% of Guatemala's total exports and its sugarcane products are one of the top five agro-industrial exports.

Solidaridad Central America has launched the Mesoamerican Landscape Accelerator, a design process which helps speed and scale identification and financing of necessary investments for sustainable agriculture and landscape restoration. Planning in the region starts with a vision about what we want to be. It is the aspiration of the Filipinos particularly those from SOCCSKSARGEN Region to have a long-term vision for the region and the country as a whole to become a prosperous, predominantly middle class society where no one is poor. The challenge is how every Filipino can afford to have a “matatag, maginhawa at panatag na buhay by 2040.”

The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. 3. Water and Energy
The Sugar Cane Agroindustry, produces electricity for the
operation of the sugar mills and covers at least 32% of
the electricity demanded in the country, all this using
100% of the residual biomass (bagasse) obtained during
sugar production, as well as decreasing the use of water
and improving techniques that allow the production of
green energy; to remain as an Agroindustry with zero net
GHG emissions,
The generation of renewable electricity from biomass has
prevented 1.5 million tons of CO2 from reaching the
environment by reducing the use of fossil fuels to
generate energy. This neutralizes GHG emissions from
sugar production.
The Sugar Agroindustry has implemented practices to
reduce water consumption and to ensure the rational use
of this resource.
Water consumption in agricultural processes has been
reduced through the implementation of efficient
irrigation systems as well as with the use of new
innovative technologies and processes such as the dry
cleaning of sugarcane which reduces substantially the use
of vital liquids.
