The Climate Insurance Fund provides investments and technical support to qualified insurance companies in developing countries that offer insurance against weather events and natural catastrophes. The fund aims to improve access to insurance and reduce vulnerability to extreme weather. It is part of the Climate Adaption Platform PCC based in Mauritius and financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development through KfW Development Bank. Swiss Re Group and KfW Development Bank are shareholders and partners. The fund offers financing, technical assistance, and limited premium support to investee insurance companies that meet eligibility criteria including a commitment to climate insurance and sound financial and governance standards.
