National symbols represent countries and help build a sense of national identity. The United States and Georgia each have distinctive symbols. The US symbols include the American flag with its 13 stripes and 50 stars representing the original 13 colonies and current 50 states, the bald eagle as the national bird, and the Statue of Liberty gift from France that stands in New York Harbor as a symbol of freedom. Georgia's symbols are the national flag featuring a red cross, the Mother Georgia statue holding a wine bowl to greet friends and sword for enemies, and Mount Mtatsminda as a historic site in Tbilisi. Both countries also have presidential residences and coats of arms that serve as important national symbols.
