General Objective
Implement a comprehensive and multisectoral intervention model (Ministry of Environment and Water,
Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, Cooperation Agencies and CAF) for effective promotion on
water, hygiene, health, nutrition and child development practices) to reducing chronic malnutrition
prevalence in children under the age of five
Specific goal
1. Promote key practices on hygiene, sanitation, health, nutrition and early childhood development
at home, in areas of the Pilot Program, with emphasis on the first 1000 days by strengthening
capacities of social actors (teachers, staff health, water and sanitation providers and others)
2. ImplementWASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) interventions in schools and health facilities
3. Systematize, evaluate the process for upscaling and inclusion in future activities of water supply
projects

9. The way forward
• Sustainability must be reinforced. Regulatory efforts along with municipal bodies
to ensure water safety managed.
• Aggregation and association of Water Committees can enhance services
sustainability. A pilot program under design.
• The implementing unit, the National Fund for Productive and Social Investment
(FPS in Spanish) has accrued good administrative and technical capacity to
manage large number of projects.
• Bolivia has gained important progress in access to basic services, but significant
differences still persist, especially in rural sanitation. For this reason, a new
Sanitation Program is in preparation by CAF, including components on hygiene
and nutrition.
