2. Running Records: Materials needed for this
session
• A reading record sheet with the text from a book (available on the
VLE)
• Pencil
• Computer/tablet with speakers/headphones
3. Running Records: Recap
• TA and Self-Correction notation:
• As with the last set of tasks, this is
an opportunity to practice running
records.
• This time we’re including the ‘Self-
correction’ and ‘teacher-
behaviour’ annotations.
4. Activity 1: Running Record practice
• Find the ‘coding procedure’ in the manual and open it in front of you.
• Use the form from the ‘extra files’ folder, which duplicates the text being
read in the video
• Listen to the reading in the video below. Use the form to record the pupil’s
errors, correct words, self-corrections and teacher assists. Stop video at
2:25.
• Add up the scores, then produce the overall text level grade.

5. Activity 2: Running Record Practice
• Repeat the process above with this video, but this time use a piece of paper or the blank sheet
from the manual. The text is written out in the ‘extra files’ section.
• As before, mark all errors and corrections, then create the final grade. (On this video the marks
being made by the teacher are clearly seen. Try grading the reading of the student without
looking at the screen, then rewatch to see if you graded the reading the same as the teacher in
the clip).

6. Running Record: Conclusion
• The correct scores for activity 2 was 92% and activity 3 was 91%
