Google Analytics
In the recently concluded FIFA World Cup, Germany sashayed all the way to the
podium with an amalgam of efficiency and ruthlessness which seemed calculated to the hilt.
Indeed, the measured strategy which was on display hinted that there was a method behind
the madness by which they dismantled teams en route to the trophy. And there was. Few
know that since last October, SAP has been assisting the German national team with analytics
of data regarding their possession percentage, passing accuracy amongst scores of various
factors. Crunching related data, it was used to increase the effectiveness of various aspects of
their game. Every aspect of the team was translated to cold bland data which in turn helped
Joachim Loew and Co. to lift the coveted trophy. Although, Analytics even can’t explain the
destruction of Brazil in the semis.
Statistical analysis of the beautiful game
Analytics in basic terms would be defined as collection, measurement, scrutiny and
report of pertinent data. Analytics is primal and pivotal for optimal and pragmatic decisions
based on the research of existing data. And the World Wide Web was in dire need for
revolutionary analytics platform after the dot com boom. Existing solutions then included
weak third party services or massive payments for a professional enterprise solution for
Analytics. Google Analytics, since its launch in 05’ has transformed the world of Web
Analysis. It dominates the scene so much so, 57% of the top 10k sites in the world are
powered by it.
Google Analytics provides informed and intensive data/statistics about traffic on the
site, sales and other factors to anyone with a Web ‘presence’. It is a tool that is designed to
calculate the various factors related to your webpage and display the data in a presentable
format including, but not limited to the page views on your webpage, number of unique
visitors, average visit duration and the ‘Bounce Rate’ ie.The percentage of users who leave
the site without looking at any other page on it. Some features which have helped Google
Analytics are:
 Analytic Tools: Easy operation and derivation of your webpage’s relevant data on a
user-friendly Dashboard initiates conveniences in usage. Reports can be customised
and stored in desired formats instead of waddling through a sea of scattered data.
 Real time Reports: Real time data can be interpreted and processed by Analytics.
The data is continuously updated and every activity on a webpage is registered and
informed within a latency of a few seconds. This includes the amount of traffic on the
site in real time, notification of geographic locations etc.
 Intelligence: If your Webpage is subject to major anomalies such as spikes in visitor
count, Google Analytics informs with notifications in real time. The feature which
allows usage of annotations and private messages on graphs and data is useful for tags
and reminders which would otherwise would have to be dug out from a mine of data
related e-mails. It also enables sharing of data along various networking sites.
 Cost: Google Analytics is essentially free with every basic feature available a
webpage. However, in case of advanced analytics, expert support and a powerful,
robust network, there is a premium option for a flat annual fee of 150, 000 $.It
packages unique web analytics, full reliability and security from Google.
 Google: It is a product of the all-conquering omnipresent Google. Gadgets released
by Google and third party apps don’t face compatibility issues with the platform.
Google Analytics can be the least exciting part of your start-up and easily be the most
essential to it. Nascent start-ups usually depend on set aims and goals according to the
magnitude of the brand. An enterprise which caters to a million paid customers might need
in-depth analysis relative to a fresh start-up which supplies to over a thousand customers. It
helps the business in many factor such as :
 Set Goals: Detailed Analytics can help provide a realistic target per duration of time.
It assists by supplying intensive reports to assess your goals and modify them as per
reports.
 Progress: It helps gauge your development, increase or decrease in website traffic
and zero in on your USP or negative aspects.
 Significant data: Google Analytics can hoard up detailed data related to every aspect
of your webpage, some of which might be more relevant to your webpage than others.
It helps to sort out the important and pertinent details on your dashboard. The
downsides of acting on insignificant data overhauls the advantages,
 Report: It keeps the operator informed of any activity on the website. Real time
information is quite essential in cut throat competitions where the early bid gets the
proverbial worm.
Google Analytics is the platform most widely used amongst Fortune 500 Companies.
Rigorous and exhaustive data is the norm amongst blue chip corporations, where staying
ahead of the curve is a norm rather than an exception. PUMA, a sports related apparel and
accessories enterprise used Google Analytics to build on data driven dynamic changes to its
consumer strategies, registering a 7.1 % growth in online orders. Subsequently, the
optimization of web experience has led to almost 50% growth amongst visitors from
developing regions such as India and China. For any conglomerate corporation, an increase in
minuscule percentage can amount to millions of dollars in profit.
Google Analytic powered enterprises
There are many Analytic platforms such as IBM, WebTrends amongst others which
are available in Cyberspace. But Google Analytics rule the roost, and not without reason. It
allows for methodical decisions to be based on statistics which may seem at times, illogical to
the operator. It gives an insight to the operation and working without muddling up the
subjective. As it is said, ’Statistics never lie’.
