at Cambridge University in Cambridge England. Later
she spent three years in France. After she came back to
London to work in King’s College. Then after two years
in the United States, she died of ovarian cancer.
3. Why Was She Famous?
• Rosalind Franklin did a lot of research and discoveries
that lead people to understand the structure of DNA
(deoxyribonucleic acid).
4. Main Accomplishments
• Her main accomplishments were:
• She discovered that DNA could crystallize into two
•
•
•
•
•
different forms, A and B.
She developed a technique to separate these two
different forms.
She found out DNA was the main cause to aids.
She found out that the sugar-phosphate backbone is on
the outside of the molecule, not on the inside which was
thought before.
She wrote four papers on the virus called, the Tobacco
Mosaic virus
She has made details on the double helix shape of the
DNA
5. Her Contribution to Science
• Her main contribution to science was the discovery of
the double helix structure on the DNA.
6. What Did She Study?
• Rosalind Franklin got her Ph.D. in physical chemistry.
• She was a biophysicist and X-ray crystallographer.
