The Roth solution was to design a roof system for Jo-Ann Stores' 1.2 million square foot facility that met requirements for wind uplift, insulation, waterproofing and long-term performance. Over eight years, Roth replaced sections of the roof and completed the final replacement in 2009. The new roof design lowered costs and eliminated leaks while further reducing environmental impact through innovations like natural lighting and ventilation systems.

Buildings use approximately 40% of the energy in the US. Buzzwords like “going green” and “energy efficient” are more prevalent today. LEED is a rating system, which provides designers the opportunity to tailor their design to reduce the impact on society and the surroundings. It is an integrated process involving the architect, landscape architect, civil engineer, MEP (mechanical, electrical and plumbing) consultant, lighting designer and contractor. As a design team these professionals evaluate energy trade offs within a conceptual design to create a functional building. This session will focus on LEED V4. It will target LEED’s definition, history and categories. More importantly, how to become a LEED accredited professional and LEED’s V4 holistic approach to building design.
This is a summed up version of our first of four LEED Green Associate Training Sessions. The LEED Credentialing Study Sessions are a service that our club, Sustainable Build and Design has offered over the last two years, preparing over 30 LEED APs from BYU, industry, and nearby universities.
LEED is an internationally recognized green building program.
It provides building owners and operators with a framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building design, construction, operations and maintenance solutions.
What is LEED?
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a voluntary, consensus-based, market¬-driven program that provides third-party verification of green buildings. From individual buildings and homes, to entire neighborhoods and communities, LEED is transforming the way built environments are designed, constructed, and operated. Comprehensive and flexible, LEED addresses the entire lifecycle of a building.
Participation in the voluntary LEED process demonstrates leadership, innovation, environmental stewardship and social responsibility. LEED provides building owners and operators the tools they need to immediately impact their building’s performance and bottom line, while providing healthy indoor spaces for a building’s occupants.
LEED projects have been successfully established in 135 countries. International projects, those outside the United States, make up more than 50% of the total LEED registered square footage. LEED unites us in a single global community and provides regional solutions, while recognizing local realities.
How it works
For commercial buildings and neighborhoods, to earn LEED certification, a project must satisfy all LEED prerequisites and earn a minimum 40 points on a 110-point LEED rating system scale. Homes must earn a minimum of 45 points on a 136-point scale. Learn more
Learn about LEED
LEED is developed, implemented and maintained with the help of the LEED Committees. Focusing more on the application of LEED, the LEED International Roundtable identifies ways LEED can better meet the needs of global users. Together, these groups include representation from a variety of industries across the country and around the globe.

Why LEED?
LEED-certified buildings are designed to:
• Lower operating costs and increase asset value
• Reduce waste sent to landfills
• Conserve energy and water
• Be healthier and safer for occupants
• Reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions
• Qualify for tax rebates, zoning allowances and other incentives in hundreds of cities
LEED is good for business. LEED certification boosts your bottom line, makes you more competitive, limits risk, and attracts tenants.
Credit library
Building projects earn points for satisfying green building criteria. Within each of the environmental LEED credit categories, projects must satisfy particular prerequisites and earn additional points. The number of points the project earns determines the level of LEED certification the project receives. Projects must earn at least 40 points to achieve basic certification.

2016 16th population health colloquium: summary of proceedings Innovations2Solutions
This paper will discuss the four key ideas discussed at the Colloquium that will have important ramifications as healthcare organizations seek to implement population health strategies:
1. understanding and alleviating Patient fear is Key to Patient experience
2. the Case for a new Population Health Protection agenda as a means to drive down Healthcare Costs
3. using data and technology to improve Healthcare for older adults
4. engage Consumers in Wellness-based Population Health and thrive financially
In May and August 2014, academic researchers surveyed 270 Environmental Service (ES) and Food Service (FS) workers at two U.S. hospitals in Sodexo’s Healthcare Division. The goal of this study was to gather information about workers’ perceived job quality for use in designing a future study aimed at reducing turnover, absenteeism, and work-related injuries at both sites.
For Sodexo, this study provides an opportunity to improve the Quality of Life of these workers, as well as the Quality of Life of the patients they serve. In turn, hospitals can benefit from greater efficiency, reduced costs, improved safety and increased performance.
Empirical research estimates that medical errors cost an estimated 19.5 billion dollars in healthcare costs and nearly 400,000 patients die annually due to these errors. 1As a result, the federal government has adopted a new regulation that creates incentives for hospitals and their sta to improve the quality of patient care. 2This new regulation ties patient care to Medicare reimbursements. In other words, how well a hospital provides patient care determines whether that hospital incurs a penalty or a bonus in the form of a percent reduction or increase of Medicare reimbursement rates.
Evidence-based design: definition and application in the healthcare setting Innovations2Solutions
This paper will define evidence-based design and identify outcomes of evidence-based design in healthcare. Two examples will be provided of areas where evidence can – and should – be integrated into healthcare facility design, in order to optimally support healthcare workers and patients.

Unveiling the Secrets How Does Generative AI Work.pdfSam H
At its core, generative artificial intelligence relies on the concept of generative models, which serve as engines that churn out entirely new data resembling their training data. It is like a sculptor who has studied so many forms found in nature and then uses this knowledge to create sculptures from his imagination that have never been seen before anywhere else. If taken to cyberspace, gans work almost the same way.
Implicitly or explicitly all competing businesses employ a strategy to select a mix
of marketing resources. Formulating such competitive strategies fundamentally
involves recognizing relationships between elements of the marketing mix (e.g.,
price and product quality), as well as assessing competitive and market conditions
(i.e., industry structure in the language of economics).

Enterprise Excellence is Inclusive Excellence.pdfKaiNexus
Enterprise excellence and inclusive excellence are closely linked, and real-world challenges have shown that both are essential to the success of any organization. To achieve enterprise excellence, organizations must focus on improving their operations and processes while creating an inclusive environment that engages everyone. In this interactive session, the facilitator will highlight commonly established business practices and how they limit our ability to engage everyone every day. More importantly, though, participants will likely gain increased awareness of what we can do differently to maximize enterprise excellence through deliberate inclusion.
What is Enterprise Excellence?
Enterprise Excellence is a holistic approach that's aimed at achieving world-class performance across all aspects of the organization.
What might I learn?
A way to engage all in creating Inclusive Excellence. Lessons from the US military and their parallels to the story of Harry Potter. How belt systems and CI teams can destroy inclusive practices. How leadership language invites people to the party. There are three things leaders can do to engage everyone every day: maximizing psychological safety to create environments where folks learn, contribute, and challenge the status quo.
Who might benefit? Anyone and everyone leading folks from the shop floor to top floor.

Pacific Garden Mission
Chicago, Illinois
Case Study
Scope of Work
The 16,000 sq. ft. vegetative roof incorporates a solar-
reflective membrane and vegetative grids, which facilitate
significant ecological benefits. Roth, a Sodexo Company,
provided a combination of gravel surfaced and HK 5001
surfaced BUR membranes. The HK 5001 membrane
provided the solar reflectivity and emissivity necessary to
support the Mission’s goal to achieve LEED®
certification.
The reflective white membrane was used to frame the
large vegetative areas of the roof and defend against solar
heat build-up. The gravel surfacing was used to protect
the roof from UV damage and physical damage under the
vegetative grids and between them, which created secure
walkways for employees tending the roof’s vegetation.
The combination of these materials offered the Mission a
sustainable solution that is environmentally responsible
and offers excellent impact and tear resistance.
Challenge
Pacific Garden Mission, located in Chicago, Illinois, is
the largest continuously operating homeless shelter
in the United States. Pacific Garden Mission houses
up to 1,000 men and women a night and serves
180,000 meals a month. Their corporate commitment
was to provide the best roof system value possible
that was sustainable and an environmentally healthy
development that would be viable in any setting for
any population. Roth, a Sodexo Company, played
an integral role in the development of a green roof
that satisfied the reflective properties, multi-ply
redundancy and budget requirements necessary to
achieve the Mission’s goals.
