International and national social work associations play an important role in the social work profession. At the international level, the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW) and International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW) are the major organizations. The IFSW was formally established in 1956 and aims to represent social workers globally. The IASSW was founded in 1928 and works to promote excellence in social work education. Nationally, the Professional Social Workers' Association in India advocates for social workers and organizes events and seminars on challenges and practices in the field.

4. INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF
SOCIAL WORKERS
 IFSW’s beginnings date from the early part of the
20th century at the First International Conference
on Social Work held in Paris in 1928, it was agreed
an International Association of Social Workers be
formed.
 At the Second International Conference on Social
Work held in Frankfurt in 1932, provisional statutes
of the International Permanent Secretariat of Social
Workers (IPSSW) were agreed by eight founding
members

SOCIAL WORKERS(IFSW)
 At the Fifth International Conference on Social
Work held in Paris in 1950, an agreement to form a
new body was approved provided that seven
national bodies became members – achieved in
1956 when the International Federation of Social
Workers was formed in Munich.

6. IFSW ORGANISATIONAL STRUCTURE

Meeting of members an

7. AGENDA
 In 2010, IFSW at a joint conference with the
International Association of Schools of Social Work
and the International Council on Social Welfare
launched the Global Agenda for Social Work and
Social Development.[6] This tripartite agreement
commits to working together to promote social
justice, social development and sustainable
systems of well-being.

8. INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF
SCHOOLS OF SOCIAL
WORK (IASSW)
 The International Association of Schools of
Social Work, IASSW, is the worldwide association of
schools of social work, other tertiary level social work
educational programs, and social work educators.
 The IASSW was founded in 1928 at the First
International Conference of Social Work, held in Paris. It
initially comprised 51 schools, mostly in Europe, and
was known as the International Committee.

9. MISSION OF IASSW
The mission statement adopted in 2000 commits the
IASSW as the international organization to four major
purposes:
 to develop and promote worldwide excellence in
social work education, research and scholarship in
order to enhance human well-being;
 to create and maintain a dynamic community of
social work educators and their programs;
 to support and facilitate participation in mutual
exchanges of information and expertise;
 to represent social work education at the
international level.

10. GOVERNANCE OF IASSW
 According to the current IASSW Constitution, the
organization is governed by the Board of Directors, made
up of both elected and appointed members. Starting from
1928 the IASSW had 12 Presidents.
 They hold office for a period of four years

of Indian / Tamil Nadu social work professionals,
headquartered at Chennai.
 The Association is functioning since 1985.

 The association is also currently working on legal
council for social workers in India.
 International Social Workers' Day is an annual
event of PSWA. It is commemorated with a
gathering of the Professionals in the sands of
Marina Beach for a RUN
