2. Plain and simple, pornography is killing mental health
My burning issue is the over consumption of pornography and the negative effects
on not only adults, but the youth as well. It is a growing concern that is not talked
about or recognized properly in the world of psychology.
3. A breakdown of Porn Addiction
Since Porn Addiction is not recognized as an actual disorder so we will be
breaking down the core parts that combine and make this such a unique addiction
● IAD (Internet Addiction Disorder)
● CSB (Compulsive Sexual Behavior/Hypersexuality)
● Screen Addiction
4. The Effects On Our Youth
● Stunts Natural Sexual Development
Children are most vulnerable to sexual beliefs and ethics, and porn use can hinder this stage.
(The average person stumbles across porn at age 11!)
● Sets Unrealistic Expectations For Sex
It's no secret that porn is extremely unrealistic, but the youth don't understand that.
● May Increase Pregnancy and STD Rates
Many teens see protection as prudish and don’t want to be perceived as such.
● Increased Rates Of Child Pornography
Curious teens are more likely to send lewd messages or photos via text due to porn consumption.
● Negative Body Image
Research shows that viewing porn ruins how teens view their body due to unrealistic expectations from pornography
5. The Effects On Adults
● Normalization and Perpetuation of Rape Myths
Pornography has been showcased to be graphic and or violent and some cases.
Prolonged viewing of this content can internalize this behavior as okay.
● Increased Rates of Viewing Deviant Porn
Porn is like a drug, once someone gets tired of their “dosage”, they end up
increasing it or viewing more illicit content to feed that addiction.
● Increased Rates of Depression
People who view porn daily are more likely to showcase severe depression.
7. What might/will happen if this is not addressed?
If this issues is not properly addressed or recognized things will undoubtedly get
worse. We live in a world where technology is dominant and the internet is easily
accessible and integrated into our daily lives. If not properly addressed, more and
more of our youth will be unknowingly drawn into this kind of content and will be
affected for what is possibly the rest of their lives.

11. My Creative Solution to Combat This Issue (PAA)
I would like to implement my idea
called PAA similar to Alcoholics
Anonymous, but instead of dealing
with alcoholics, you're dealing with
porn addicts! Ideally I would like to
have a space where people who are
able to recognize that they struggle
and need help with this issue can feel
accepted and seen without stigma!
