This document summarizes research on different types of crimes against persons. It discusses how robbery disproportionately impacts disorganized neighborhoods. 3. ROBBERY
• Robbery is classified as a violent crime
because it involves the threat or use of force.
Terrence D. Miethe and David Mc Dowall
stated that neighborhoods with security and a
prominent socialization are more effective
from robbery then the disorganized
neighborhoods.

is a rare event on transportation. Smith and Clark said
there are three scenarios robbers used: isolated areas,
selected victims outside the station; lie in wait.
According to Smith and Clark Taxicab Driver have the
greatest risk.
• Bruce A. Jacobs and Richard Wright hypothesized that
street culture was the intervening force that connected
background factors to the motivation to offend. Jacobs
and Wright concluded that robbery is a way of life.

• Richard t. Wright and Scott H. Decker found that six out
of every ten offenders who specialized in street
robbery-forty-three of seventy- three-said that they
usually preyed on individuals who themselves were
involved in lawbreaking. Example: Young street drug
dealer.
• Jody Miller states that which sex you are has nothing to
do with robbery. Men use physical violence and rob
other men because men carried more money. Female
used physically confrontation and their sexuality to
attract males victims for men to rob.

interpersonal violence, James Garbarino Stated.
• Workplace Violence is more common then generally
believed. Workplace violence account for
approximately 18% of all violent crime that occur in
the United States.
• The first anti-stalking statute was passed in 1990 in
California. Some example are rejected stalker, intimacy
seeking stalker, incompetent suitors and resentful-
vendetta stalker.
