The Râ nov Citadel has a history dating back to prehistoric and Dacian times, though the current medieval structure was likely built in the early 13th century. It served as a place of refuge for villagers fleeing military conflicts in the 1840s but was abandoned by 1850. Archaeological evidence reveals fortification traces from earlier eras on the citadel hill. The citadel features a simple architectural style adapted for fortification, with two courts and an exterior wall with a square tower. Local legend holds that prisoners dug a well over 17 years, writing verses from the Quran on its walls.
