area to film in, if

there is no one in

we are filming

notify people that
they cannot use
the toilets

check the toilets if
anyone is in there
before filming.

the wet floor.
- We will film in the
safest area, or chosen
another entrance that
is more appropriate.
- Make sure actors are
wearing suitable footwear
in case of rainy weather
- The crew need to
notify the cast about
suitable costume
- The crew need to
determine if the floor is
fit to walk on.
- The day of the shoot
when we are filming at
the entrance of the
sixth form.
- The automatic doors - The doors may close
on and cast or crew
member whilst
filming causing injury
- The cast and crew
need to walk through
the automatic door
careful and be aware
of when they may
close.
- Only film when actors
are through the automatic
doors.

determine if the door
will interfere

or damage.

the stairs are

the correct direction.

Outside the Sixth Form Block

- If weather conditions
are poor
- The actors may slip
over on ice.
- The crew may slip
over
- If crew slip equipment
may be damaged.
- We will not film if the
weather conditions are
poor.
- The cast and crew will
need to be cautious of
how they step and wear
appropriate footwear.
- The crew will need to
ensure the actors if
filming is re-scheduled
- The day of the shoot
when filming outside the
Sixth Form block.
- If filming at lesson
change, break or lunch,
there will be lots of
people walking around
the area.
- People may be
unaware of the actors

equipment and may
cause damage, such
as a camera set up
on the tripod.
- Only filming at quiet

there are few people

Corridor

doors shut on them
unexpectedly.
- Ensuring that we don’t
spend a lot of time
filming in the doorway.
- If the doors are causing
problems we can move
our shot further away
from the doors and make
sure that the actors do not
use them.
- The crew need to
determine if the space
if suitable to film in.
- The day of the shoot
when filming in the
corridor.
- If the floor is wet - The actors and crew
may slip over if the
ground is wet.
- We won’t film in the
area that is slippery
- The actors and crew
need to wear
appropriate footwear

ensure that the actors
footwear for the
costume is suitable
- The crew need to
regulate the area if the
floor is tolerable to film.

Classroom

- If an actors is
following direction
they may be unware
of the tables and
chairs around them
and hit into them
causing injuries.
- A table or chair leg
may be unseen,
causing cast or crew
to trip over it.
- Ensuring that the chairs
and tables are placed
appropriately in the
correct position, safely
under the tables.
- Notify the team about
the chairs and tables
and ask them to take
precaution.
- The crew need to locate
and move the chairs and
tables, if necessary.

when we are filming in
the classroom.
- Objects in front of or
around the door when
cast and crew enter.
- If we are filming
actors entering the
room, they be
unaware of objects
that are surrounding
the doorway and trip
over them
- Moving objects away
from the doorway

Bathroom (Home)

- Clearing up any water. - Make sure that the taps
are off/ water is not
running during the
shoot.
- The crew can clear up

equipment
- The equipment may
be damaged if near
water.
- Keep electrical
equipment away from

  • 1. Risk Assessments of all locations Unit 17: LO2: Pre-Production
  • 2. Stairwell and Corridor What are the hazards? Who might be harmed and how? What are you already doing? Do you need to do anything else to control this risk? Action by who? Action by when? - Stairs are slippery due to rainy weather. - My actors may be harmed because they could slip up and fall down the stairs. - They need to wear appropriate footwear - Ensure that the stairs are not wet - The actors can hold on to the railings if necessary to. - The actors can hold on the railings - The crew can ensure that the stairs are suitable to walk up/ down - Day of shoot when filming at the stairs and corridor - Other people, who are not in the film, walking down the stairs. - This could cause collision, and people may trip over. - If people walk down the stairs when we are filming, we can stop shooting and the actors can leave the stairs and we will wait until the stairs are free.. - Ensuring that people are not walking down the stairs when we they are in use by the actors. - Actors can determine if they need to leave the stairs - Crew can ensure when the stairs are free. - Day of shoot when filming at the stairs and corridor - Actors walking up the stairs whilst talking - If the actors are walking and talking they may not be concentrating and trip over the steps. - Make sure actors say their line before or after they walk up the stairs so that they can concentrate when walking. - Actors need to be aware of where they’re stepping. - The crew can direct the actors to say their lines before entering the staircase. - Day of shoot when filming at the stairs and corridor
  • 3. Lockers and Corridor What are the hazards? Who might be harmed and how? What are you already doing? Do you need to do anything else to control this risk? Action by who? Action by when? - If the floor is wet - Actors may slip on the floor and fall - Making sure that the floor area is suitable for people to walk and stand on - Chose another area to film in, if floor is unsuitable to film on. - The actors need to be careful where they step if the floor is wet. - The day of the shoot when we are filming by the lockers. - Spatial awareness when standing next to others lockers - When actors are standing by the lockers, people may be unaware that they are they and the locker door my hit that actors - Only film by the lockers if there aren’t many people using them and the space is clear - Make actors aware of where they’re standing o they are not in the way someone else locker. - The crew need to notify the cast to stand by appropriate lockers. - The day of the shoot when we are filming by the lockers.
  • 4. Outside toilets What are the hazards? Who might be harmed and how? What are you already doing? Do you need to do anything else to control this risk? Action by who? Action by when? - When the actors walk into the toilet, another person may be walking out. - If there are people walking out of the toilets, the actors may collide causing injuries. - Making sure that there is no one in the toilets when we are filming - Notify other people that they cannot use the toilet facilities when we are filming - The crew need to notify people that they cannot use the toilets - The crew need to check the toilets if anyone is in there before filming. - The day of the shoot when filming in the toilets. - If the lights I the toilet are turned off. - The actors and crew may trip and fall over - Turn the lights on before we being filming N/A - The crew will need to turn the lights on. The day of the shoot when filming in the toilets.
  • 5. Entrance to Sixth Form What are the hazards? Who might be harmed and how? What are you already doing? Do you need to do anything else to control this risk? Action by who? Action by when? - The floor may be wet due to people walking from outside to inside - The actors may slip over if they walk over the wet floor. - We will film in the safest area, or chosen another entrance that is more appropriate. - Make sure actors are wearing suitable footwear in case of rainy weather - The crew need to notify the cast about suitable costume - The crew need to determine if the floor is fit to walk on. - The day of the shoot when we are filming at the entrance of the sixth form. - The automatic doors - The doors may close on and cast or crew member whilst filming causing injury - The cast and crew need to walk through the automatic door careful and be aware of when they may close. - Only film when actors are through the automatic doors. - The crew need to determine if the door will interfere - The actors need to walk through them with caution - The day of the shoot when we film by the entrance of the sixth form. - At reception, it may get very busy - Actors may trip over if there are lots of people around - Equipment such as tripods may get damaged - We will only film when it is quiet and there are few people around. - We can move to a less- busy area to film. - The crew need to decided if the area is quiet enough to film in. - The day of the shoot when we are filming by the entrance of the sixth form. - Actors may be unaware of nearby stairwell - Actors may turn and trip if they are not aware of stairs - Notify the cast that there are stairs on their left hand side when they enter the building - the crew can ensure that the direction does not require the cast to go near the stairwell therefore eliminating trips or damage. - The cast are required to notify the cast where the stairs are - The crew need to give the correct direction. - The day of the shoot when we are filming by the entrance to the sixth form.
  • 6. Outside the Sixth Form Block What are the hazards? Who might be harmed and how? What are you already doing? Do you need to do anything else to control this risk? Action by who? Action by when? - If weather conditions are poor - The actors may slip over on ice. - The crew may slip over - If crew slip equipment may be damaged. - We will not film if the weather conditions are poor. - The cast and crew will need to be cautious of how they step and wear appropriate footwear. - The crew will need to ensure the actors if filming is re-scheduled - The day of the shoot when filming outside the Sixth Form block. - If filming at lesson change, break or lunch, there will be lots of people walking around the area. - People may be unaware of the actors and crew when filming, causing collisions. - They may not notice equipment and may cause damage, such as a camera set up on the tripod. - Only filming at quiet times. Ensuring that there are few people around - Setting up the tripod and camera in a suitable and viewable as well as being controlled by a member of the crew, so that the equipment isn’t damaged. - The crew need to notify the cast as to when the appropriate times are to film. - The crew needs to operate and look after the camera equipment - The day of the shoot when filming outside of the Sixth Form block.
  • 7. Corridor What are the hazards? Who might be harmed and how? What are you already doing? Do you need to do anything else to control this risk? Action by who? Action by when? - The doors may close on actors and crew. - the actors and crew may be injured if the doors shut on them unexpectedly. - Ensuring that we don’t spend a lot of time filming in the doorway. - If the doors are causing problems we can move our shot further away from the doors and make sure that the actors do not use them. - The crew need to determine if the space if suitable to film in. - The day of the shoot when filming in the corridor. - If the floor is wet - The actors and crew may slip over if the ground is wet. - We won’t film in the area that is slippery - The actors and crew need to wear appropriate footwear - The crew need to ensure that the actors footwear for the costume is suitable - The crew need to regulate the area if the floor is tolerable to film. - The day of the shoot when filming in the corridor.
  • 8. Classroom What are the hazards? Who might be harmed and how? What are you already doing? Do you need to do anything else to control this risk? Action by who? Action by when? - The chairs and tables around the room - If an actors is following direction they may be unware of the tables and chairs around them and hit into them causing injuries. - A table or chair leg may be unseen, causing cast or crew to trip over it. - Ensuring that the chairs and tables are placed appropriately in the correct position, safely under the tables. - Notify the team about the chairs and tables and ask them to take precaution. - The crew need to locate and move the chairs and tables, if necessary. - The day of the shoot when we are filming in the classroom. - Objects in front of or around the door when cast and crew enter. - If we are filming actors entering the room, they be unaware of objects that are surrounding the doorway and trip over them - Moving objects away from the doorway - Not filming actors entering and exiting the room. Only film when actors are inside the classroom. - The crew need to move any objects away from the doorway. - The crew need to determine if it is suitable to film actors entering and exiting the classroom. - The day of the shoot when filming in the classroom.
  • 9. Bathroom (Home) What are the hazards? Who might be harmed and how? What are you already doing? Do you need to do anything else to control this risk? Action by who? Action by when? - Water on the floor - Actors and crew may slip over - Clearing up any water. - Make sure that the taps are off/ water is not running during the shoot. - The crew can clear up water - The crew can ensure that all taps are off. - The day of the shoot when filming in the bathroom at home. - Water near electrical equipment - The equipment may be damaged if near water. - Keep electrical equipment away from water - Make sure the filming happens outside of the room, filming inwards. - The crew needs to keep the equipment away from water - The day of the shoot when filming in the bathroom at home. - The radiator - If the radiator is turned on, actors and crew my burn themselves. - Make sure the radiator is tuned off - Make sure cast and crew do not touch or stand near the radiator. - The crew need to ensure the radiator is turned off - The crew need to direct the team to not stand near the radiator if it is on. - The day of the shoot when filming in the bathroom at home.
  • 10. Bedroom (Home) What are the hazards? Who might be harmed and how? What are you already doing? Do you need to do anything else to control this risk? Action by who? Action by when? - Radiator - Cast and crew my burn themselves if the touch the radiator - If the radiator is on it may damage equipment that is placed on the radiator - Turn off the radiator - Do not place electrical equipment on the radiator - The crew need to turn off the radiator - The crew need to move equipment away from the radiator. - The day of the shoot when filming in the bedroom at home. - Window that open from the bottom - If the window is open objects or equipment place on the window sill may fall out and get damaged. - Take everything off the window sill - Do not open the window - The crew need to take everything off the window sill - The crew need to ensure the cast not to open the window - The day of the shoot when filming in the bedroom at home.
