4. WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE
ELECTIVE FAIR?
• Provide elective information for students and parents/guardians to assist in the
elective selection process.
– Meet elective teachers & have opportunity to ask questions
• Explain the process for selecting electives.
– 1st – SHS Counselors visit DRMS, share information about high school & graduation
requirements, distribute Elective Selection Form (1/15/19)
– 2nd – Elective Course Descriptions & Elective Selection Form sent home electronically

5. WHAT ABOUT REQUIRED CLASSES?
ENGLISH, MATH, SCIENCE, SS
• Placement rubrics are used by High School Departments to determine placement
(and levels) in core classes
• Rubrics include: Current placement, Current grades/Performance, Milestone scores,
Lexile Score, etc.
• Social Studies is not a required class for 9th graders, 3 units (or years) required for
graduation

7. WHAT SHOULD I CONSIDER WHEN
CHOOSING AN ELECTIVE?
• Choose electives based on personal, college, and career interests.
• What is a pathway?
– A pathway is a series of related courses that help prepare students for a college setting or a
career field.
– Students who complete the three courses in a pathway are recognized as a “Pathway
Completer”.
– Several pathways allow students the opportunity to earn certifications that prepare them for
a job.
• Students may choose electives in:
– English
– Social Studies
– CTAE (Career, Technology, Agriculture, Engineering)
– Fine Arts
– World Language

8. NEXT STEPS:
• TONIGHT: Visit the various elective booths.
• Elective Registration Sheets: (Gold forms) complete these between tonight Monday,
2/11/19
• February 11, 2019: SHS faculty members will visit DRMS to input student choices for their
elective courses using the gold sheets.
• LATE MARCH/EARLY APRIL: Course Verification Sheets will be sent home with DRMS
students showing courses selected.
• JULY: Schedules will be released to students via CCSD student email accounts.
• JULY: (Date TBD) New student orientation/walk-through
