Himachal Pradesh is a mountain state located in northern India. It was established as an administrative region in 1948 and became the 18th state of India in 1971. Himachal Pradesh is known for its Himalayan landscapes and popular hill stations such as Shimla, Manali, Dharamshala, and Kasauli. Tourism is an important part of the state's economy, with activities like trekking, paragliding, and skiing attracting many visitors. The culture of Himachal Pradesh is reflected through traditional clothing like long kurtas and ghagris for women and kurtas with pyjamas or overcoats for men. 3. Himachal Pradesh is a state in the northern part of India.
Situated in the Western Himalayas, it is one of the eleven
mountain states and is characterized by an extreme landscape
featuring several peaks and extensive river systems.
Himachal Pradesh shares borders with the Union territories of
Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh to the north, and the states of
Punjab to the west, Haryana to the southwest, and Uttarakhand
and Uttar Pradesh to the south.
The state shares a border to the east with the Tibet Autonomous
Region in China.

Himachal Pradesh was established in 1948 as a Chief
Commissioner's Province within the Union of India.
The province comprised the hill districts around
Shimla and southern hill areas of the former Punjab
region.
Himachal became a part C state on 26 January 1950
with the implementation of the Constitution of
India.
Himachal Pradesh became a Union Territory on 1
November 1956. On 18 December 1970 the State of
Himachal Pradesh Act was passed by Parliament
and the new state came into being on 25 January
1971. Thus Himachal emerged as the eighteenth
state of the Indian Union.

6. Himachal Pradesh is famous for its Himalayan landscapes and popular hill-
stations. Many outdoor activities such as rock climbing, mountain biking,
paragliding, ice-skating, trekking, rafting, and heli-skiing are popular tourist
attractions in Himachal Pradesh.
Until the British reign, tourism in Himachal Pradesh was very limited to a few
places around the hills and some spiritual destinations. The British developed hill
stations during their reign one of them being Shimla which they called The
Summer Capital of India. After the British rule, tourism in Himachal Pradesh was
on the rise with the highest number of tourists in the mid 1980s and 1990s.
Shimla, the state capital, is popular among tourists. The Kalka-Shimla Railway is a
mountain railway which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Shimla is also a
famous skiing attraction in India. Other popular hill stations include Manali ,
Kinnuar , Kasol , Parvati Valley, Chamba , Kullu ,Kinnar, Kailesh , and Kasauli.
Dharamshala, home of the Dalai Lama, is known for its Tibetan monasteries and
Buddhist temples. Many trekking expeditions also begin here.
7. Traditional Himachal Pradesh Dresses of Women
Rajput women wear long kurtas
stretching from their neck to their
toe. This began following the
purdah (veil) system which is no
more prevalent in the region.
They also wear Ghaghris, Salwar-
Kameez and Cholis. Cholis are the
shirts which are worn on the upper
part with a long skirt and a lot of
bangles.
For occasions and celebrations like
weddings, they wear long pyjamas,
traditional ghagra choli woven at
homes with intricate embroidery
and new rings and bangles.
Footwear is designed by grass and
animal skin to keep the feet warm.
Traditional Himachal Pradesh Dresses of Men
There are mainly two classes in
which the community of
Himachal Pradesh has been
divided: Rajput and Brahmins.
The attires are largely identical,
but some differences can be
noted. Rajput Men wear tight
Churidar Pyjamas with kurta
and long silk overcoat over it
Brahmin Men can be seen
wearing kurta and pyjama
along with a waistcoat or an
overcoat and. Priests mostly
wear white clothes and a small
soft towel-like cloth on their
shoulders.
8. Music and dance of Himachal Pradesh reflects its cultural
identity. Through their dance and music, they entreat their gods
during local festivals and other special occasions. There are also
dances that are specific to certain regions of the state.
Some of the dance forms of Himachal are Losar Shona Chuksam
(Kinnaur), Dangi (Chamba), Gee Dance and Burah dance,
(Sirmour), Naati, Kharait, Ujagjama and Chadhgebrikar (Kullu)
and Shunto (Lahaul & Spiti).
People of the state generally prefer folk music. There is no
classical form of music, as for the Himachal Pradesh is concerned.
Himachali dance forms are highly varied and quite complicated.
These dances are very vital part of the tribal life. It reflects the
culture and the tradition of Himachal Pradesh. Hardly any
festivity here is celebrated without dancing. Some of the dance
forms like Dulshol, Dharveshi, Drodi, Dev Naritya, Rakshas
Nritya, Dangi, Lasa, Nati and Nagas are danced all over the
region.
