It is bounded by Tamil Nadu, Karnataka,
Telangana and Odisha.
The Eastern Boundary is a 970km coastline
along Bay of Bengal.

• Andhra Pradesh is the 1st state to be formed on linguistic basis in India on 1October
1953.
• It is major producer of rice and hence is known as “Rice Bowl Of India.”

TRADITIONAL DRESSES OF ANDHRA
PRADESH:
• Before the 14th century, women in Andhra Pradesh wore dhotis, just like the men did. But over
the years, the length of their dhoti kept on increasing and much later, they started using an
additional piece of cloth to wrap over their shoulders. The additional piece of cloth later got
stitch together to form a saree.

TRADITIONAL DANCES OF ANDHRA
PRADESH:
• Kuchipudi:
Kuchipudi is an eminent dance form that originated in Andhra Pradesh. Kuchipudi is
only a dance, but a fine amalgamation of dance, gestures, speech and song. A
dancer is required to be well versed in dancing, acting, music, various languages and
texts.
 Bhamakalpam:
Bhamakalpam is another form of Classical dance in Andhra Pradesh. It originated from
Kuchipudi, Bhamakalpam is both a dance and a drama. It is the first dance-drama that
was taught to the young boys and then carried out as Kuchipudi.
• Burrakatha:
Burrakatha is a special folk dance of the state. It observes tales from the Indian
Mythology. In the performance, the main artist narrates a story, plays music and dance
on the tunes. The co-artists beat drums, enriching certain events in the story.
 Lambadi:
Associated with Lambadi tribe, Lambadi dance is performed to celebrate a loaded
harvest or a good sowing season. The dancers adorn themselves with heavy jewellery,
like ivory bangles, brass anklets, ornate jewellery and costumes embroidered with glass
beads.
FESTIVALS OF ANDHRA PRADESH:
• Pongal: Pongal, is a major festival celebrated for continuous four days in Andhra
Pradesh. People Decorate their houses with Rangoli.
• Ugadi: Ugadi is officially known as New year day for Andhra Pradesh. Ugadi
pacchadi, is the main highlight of the festival.
• Deepavali: Diwali, the 'festival of lights. Every house of Andhra Pradesh is lit with
diyas to celebrate the good over the evil.
• Andhra Pradesh is home to Hindu saints of all castes. An important figure is Saint Yogi
Potuluri Veerabrahmam, who was a Brahmin.
• Several important Hindu modern-day saints are from Andhra Pradesh. These
include Nimbarka who founded Dvaitadvaita, Mother Meera who advocated
the Indian independence and Aurobindo Mission.
