1) Cities around the world are facing challenges related to aging infrastructure, population growth, crime and environmental issues. Technology can help address these issues and enable sustainable growth. 2) Smart connected communities can deliver benefits like 50% reductions in energy and water usage and 20% reductions in traffic and crime through applications across real estate, transportation, utilities and other sectors. 3) Examples of smart connected community implementations around the world include Amsterdam's smart working centers, projects in Colorado, Holyoke and other cities, focusing on areas like education, healthcare, sustainability and economic development.

Basically we want to leave a message in the customer´s mind that ITC technology is the glue and catalyst element that can enable new ways of making business and changes the way we live, learn and play. That’s why we try to approach to the internet of things The customer´s new project (this is the reason why we are taking him to the EBC) is the construction of two intelligent buildings which will serve mixed purposes in the form of commercial spaces, business center and probably housing development, though it is not new in Mexico, it is still in their inkwell and we want to help them shape it and really change the way we live, learn and play, and even rest in peace. - #4 I was at the G20 Summit in Seoul that took place in November last year where Korean President Lee Myung-bak invited more than 100 CEOs to present a report on the Need For Sustainable And Balanced Growth to world leaders.For me, technology can play a huge role. I see Technology as an enabler to drive sustainability / Cisco as a horizontal player across all verticals to drive innovations / social virtualization – any services, any time, seamlessly.In parts of the world today, people have access to technology before they have access to quality water and electricity Cisco estimates that the number of devices connected to the Internet in 2020 could potentially reach 1 trillion - driven by sensors on buildings, smart meters, livestock, even your toilet can be connected providing you with a daily health update. This will enable huge productivity gains in the developed markets especially and create new services
- #6 And when you build cities with this new approach and new mindset, you can realize some tangible benefits.Over the next decade we can use technology to drive energy efficiency by 30% (buildings alone consume 40% of the world’s electricity and technology can enable savings of more than 30%) We can drive water usage down by 50% (cities in Australia are already doing this)And transport down by 30% (let’s rethink traditional concepts of travel – with techs such as TP you can place shift your way around the city instead of driving around the cityThese are actual data points out of city plans- not something we are dreaming up.People start to enjoy their environment more. They enjoy where they live. It has a positive effect on the community that spreads and creates a place where more people want to live.Imagine what’s possible.
- #7 What you see here is the traction we’ve realized with S+CC globally.We’ve announceded 36 MOU’s, signed 14 long-term contracts.It’s also about thought leadership. Earlier I mentioned the fact that S+CC opens doors. It also brings visibility to our brands in new markets, countries and industries where we have not had it before. Cisco is seen as the ideal partner.[call out a few examples]Earlier you heard Rob talking about our sports and entertainment success. That’s just one of many examples…and chuck is going to go into more detail on that adjacency in a few minutes.Industry analysts, the media – they all recognize and report on Cisco, and that what we’re doing is special and unique.We all know about IPv6 and the implications or challenges there. We’ve engaged with many bodies, established global standards…because that’s what we do…and these globally recognized leaders recognize that this is our strength…that is “Why Cisco?”All of this is leading to incremental revenue now. You can see there the forecast for FY11is more than $400M…and the pipeline for the FY12 timeframe is solid at $570M.
- #15 What will it take to create these cities/communities… new visionary leadership & the creation of New Business Models.Imagine the huge opportunity for new services. Technology will be the key enabler.Only 2% of infrastructure spend – 2% of a trillion dollars is spent on technology – even an increase of 1%? To enable this we should together drive:Visionary leadership is key – finding people with similar mindsets, passion and vision for the future…that’s really key.Global open standards – this is what we do! We did it 25 years ago with the internet…bringing together different protocols and making them all work together. That’s not something just anyone can do.Smart regulation – we need leaders to step up….LEED certification….give benefits to people who implementPublic private partnerships – this has been key to our success so far.And a New ecosystem – working with developers, people like Schneider ElectricBut it takes all five of these factors…without one, it changes completely.
